  • This is a useful method of flushing out black money, given that a large percentage of cash holding is in these two denominations. The manner in which it was imple-mented is surprising such actions kill black money in single shot, so that insiders do not take advantage of the information at the cost of the outsiders. This move is really appreciable looking to long term growth of the country. Businessmen who do fare business can now compete with the people who do business without bill. This move and GST will definitely take us forward to do a cleaner and better way with ease of doing business.

Yes, I agree presently the story is different for IT deal-ers whose cheques are due to be paid. Its really painful as we were anyway seeing a dam slow market after Diwali and this move gave another slap. Once it was announced by the PM of India, Customers were moving smartly in the market to liquidate their old cash by buying a laptop or computer which was long due. But, this idea of theirs didnt work as traders rejected cash and demanded swipe

which was not possible from customer side, finally ending with sweet on hand but couldnt eat. So, among the worst hit business were Electronics, Computers and Laptops trade as every day some or other big cheque is in pipe-line. Due to unavoidable circumstances many cheques got bounced in the market as these types of things are not in our hands and naturally every vendor should co-operate channel partners at this moment.

But one thing is sure, that we will definitely see pos-itive growth in IT business as white business is possible only with the help of computers and laptops. The busi-nessmen who use to do business on slips for black, has to buy either a computer or laptop for all his needs of GST and white. This move of our PM Modi is a positive sign for IT business specially, we all should appreciate and support this.

Students for exam-ple may need to share dorms with other students or may not be able to bring an entire desktop with them but they dont require a laptop in class, the BIOSTAR RACING P1 makes it easy to have a PC without taking up a lot of space.

MAIT Expects Positive Outcome From GST

The much awaited and talked about GST regime in India is finally attaining certainty with a four-slab GST tax structure of 6, 12, 18 and 26 per cent being mooted at the GST Council meet after unveiling of the Model GST Law in June 2016 (GST Law). The government, which proposes to implement the new pan-India indirect tax regime from the start of the next fiscal in April 2017, has been moving ahead with finalising online processes for registration, refunds, returns filing and payments.Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT) appreciates the concerted efforts of the Gov-ernment to bring all stakeholders on board to finalise Indias new GST Law, which appears to be comprehen-sive in its approach. Stakeholders are optimistic that the GST tax structure being discussed will be in favour of the ICT industry.MAIT is very keen to see implementation of GST, which can potentially transform the Indian econ-omy into a major global player. While the direct benefits would be on account of simplification of tax collection process, we foresee substan-tial increase in revenue collections that would enable government to enhance infrastructure spending. The spending on e-Governance would also fuel demand for IT products. After EVMs and UID, GST would be the third most important all time public digital transforma-tion initiative for India, said Nitin Kunkolienker, Vice President, MAIT and Director-Corporate Affairs, Smar-tlink Network Systems. We welcome the Government of Indias move to introduce GST, which will give a significant boost to the economy. Along with improving ease of doing business and encouraging industries to expand their operations, GST will also ensure growth in job opportunities. Keep-ing consumer delight as a fundamental output of our technological evolution, at Canon, we are always keen to support endeavours that support progress and devel-opment in the country, said Kazutada Kobayashi, Presi-dent and CEO, Canon India. As a leading global technology company operating across multiple business groups in India, Lenovo wel-comes progressive tax reforms that ease business com-plexities and benefit organisations and consumers alike.

Along with the rest of the industry we will keenly fol-low this development as GST gets formalised to help address various challenges in the current indirect tax landscape, stated a Lenovo India spokesperson. The IT-Electronics industry at large welcomes the pro-posed move to the GST regime, which would pave the way for a simplified and homogenous tax structure for goods and services across India, Kunkolienker further added.Make in India and GSTThe benefits afforded under the Governments flagship programme Make in India should continue to enjoy patronage under the GST regime as well, given that businesses have made substantial investments, and also given that fruition of such schemes is realised over a

period of time. Particularly, there is need for the continuation of Duty Differential Scheme offered on Mobile phones, Tablets, CPE and IP Surveillance Equipment under the GST regime as well.

    MAIT also demands that the same should be extended to more crucial CPE products, which were not cov-ered during the last budget. MAIT strongly advocates extending the same scheme to Notebook PCs, Desktop PCs and Servers, a long standing demand of the indus-try. As the process of attracting investments into the IT-Electronics manufacturing sector has commenced recently, the Make in India scheme could serve as one of the most attractive incentives for OEMs to expand operations in India, Kunkolienker concluded.The IT-Electronics industry has suggested various mech-anisms to ensure that the Governments vision of Make in India is continued under the GST regime: It is recommended that a negative list of ITA goods be introduced on import of which (for trading) no credit of CGST portion of IGST would be permissible, thereby encouraging indigenous manufacturing; Benefit of upfront exemption from levy of CGST should be provided on goods manufactured in India, or the benefit may be extended by way of a refund mech-anism, wherein refund of CGST would be available to manufacturers;

association, said, The road ahead is to take the association with all the concerned departments in the state and central and interact with them on making the fullest use of association members for aligning them in projects Make-In-India, Digital India and more. He aso said that the association is thinking big on how GST will make positive impact on the channel fraternity across India.Advantage FAIITA:The forum was instrumental in bringing the entire country under one roof. The association has also took the local association global by signing with international association in goodwill. The forth-coming GST will be an advantage for the members as it will cut down the local taxes and help the members across the country to trade anywhere within the country.

Ease of Doing Business and GSTUnder GST regime, low tax compliance cost, low tax collection costs, low tax gap would keep inflation in check while improving the tax to GDP ratio. The sup-ply chain and value chain of the IT-Electronics sector would go through a positive upswing. However, there are various other issues that GST needs to address from operational point of view to further improve Ease of Doing Business. It is recommended that upfront exemption be retained for procurement of goods and services by SEZ/EPZ units under the GST regime. Benefits under the SEZ Scheme and Excise Duty free zones, currently prevalent, should continue under the GST regime. Given that the GST is levied on the original supply of goods/parts, GST should not be levied again at the time of actual supply of parts during the provision of warranty services/AMC. Hence, any supply during warranty/AMC should not be subject to GST again on the basis of a self-declaration from the supplier. There is need for simple rules that permit transfer of credit build-up between offices/branches across India, particularly from marketing offices and from warehouses stocking parts for warranty/AMC sup-plies.The implementation of GST should block any commer-cial incentive for having a non-tax paid component in the value chain. It should add to a significant uptake of licenced software as also PCs with pre-installed soft-ware, opined Alok Dubey, CFO, Acer India (Pvt.) Ltd. The rate differential between main products and acces-sories has always been a challenge and will remain so under the GST regime. Hence, it is recommended that accessories/parts sold along with the main product, should be treated at par with the main product itself and should be amenable to the same rate of GST as the main product this is particularly relevant in cases where IT goods are subject to merit rate of GST. This would ensure that unwarranted litigation is avoided.Any new revolutionary change in the industry eco-system should ensure a better investment climate and conducive business environment in the country. MAIT is hopeful the Indian ICT sector would benefit from speedy implementation of the GST Bill, and the country would become a global hub for sourcing of IT-Electron-ics hardware products, concluded Anwar Shirpurwala, Executive Director, MAIT.

  • QUOTES ON DEMONETISATION OF RS. 500 AND RS. 1,000 NOTES BY GOVT. OF INDIA

    CELL IT, VOL-11, ISSUE-4 14 KRISHNA, November -2016

Viren Bavishi, Director, TAITDemonetisation of the Rs. 500 and

Rs. 1,000 currency notes is one of the boldest steps to curtail the parallel economy fuelled by black money while at the same

time cutting off financing of ter-rorist activities.

For SMEs, I dont see any major ill effects - in fact, this move would mark the onset of increased adoption of transactions through IMPS/NEFT/RTGS and mobile wallets that will bring in more convenience and transparency. With GST likely to be rolled out from 1st April 2017, this demonetisation of old currency notes

will complement the governments move to ensure higher tax compliance. Strict tax compliance will help SMEs running legitimate businesses, who generally find it difficult to compete with smug-glers and those dealing in contraband goods. While there may be hardship for a week or two, thereafter things are expected to settle down, and people in general, including businesses, would be able to get cash when needed through authorised banking channels. In the long run, this move will accelerate economic growth through the digital pipes of e-commerce and m-banking. It will make larger revenues available to government in the form of income tax collections to fund infrastruc-ture growth and development.

Satish Kumar V, Country Head at DMX IndiaWe are proud of this bold decision taken by the Indian Government. The amount of planning and systematic preparation is appreciable and the daring step is worth lauding. As per now, there should not be any major im-pact on the general IT sector as we have a highly struc-tured business to deal with. In fact, this is a welcoming opportunity for the IT industry as the dependen-cy on the banking & online transactions and, communications is set to grow exponential-ly. This development would help hardware / software / services players to perform smart business, maintaining a transparent track record. It is also a boost to the start-up segment that can now take the cashless transactions and related shopping / purchase related experience to new levels of comfort with their innovative platform & service idea. Right now we only see the positives from this measure by the government & Reserve Bank. Firstly, this step can bring grey market commodities / illegal money

lending / money laundering etc., under control which is otherwise unmanageable. Furthermore, it can alleviate the lives of our farmers, artisans and similar other sections. By actively participating in micro and rural financing through official means, they can actually come out of the clutches of money lenders & middle men.

While the demonetizing announcement with immedi-ate effect is the highlight of the idea, the govern-

ment and the banking sectors has to take the responsibility to come to the rescue of the gen-eral population to ensure minimal confusion and more normalization of day to day oper-ations as well as facilitating industry specific

needs.Overall, the gradual transition starting with Aad-

haar/ PAN/ Bank account linking, penetration of digital wallets and online services, multiple instances to declare black money followed by back end preparation of new currency will definitely bring evident changes in the governance.

S Sriram, CEO, iValue infosolutionsThis is one great move by the government of India. It will serve the country on the long run. The major implications will result in faster GDP growth, inflation will fall, and products will become more affordable which will fuel the demand and further growth of the industries. On the other hand, infla-tion will fall along with stronger growth.

Products will be more affordable including large ticket items like housing. Once cleaned up,

further generation of black money will be dramatically cut down and more transac-tions will happen electronically instead of cash and hence the counterfeit will re-

duce. There wont be much of an impact on the IT industry as they prefer purchase

and sales through banking system only.

    Anwar Shirpurwala,Executive Director, MAIT

MAIT compliments Prime Minister Modi for his action against corruption and black money and strongly supports the Govern-ment in its mission of transformation of India. We applaud the decision taken by the government to eradicate black money. The move taken by the govt. clearly indi-cates that we will be depending more and more on the ICT. This move has been possible be-

cause of the availability of technology and multiple means of financial transaction. This also calls

for the Govt to further look for means of in-creasing IT penetration, thus enabling every citizen to use technology tools and services for cashless transactions. Govt. should con-

tinue to give more emphasis on technology led schemes and programs for the betterment of

    the economy growth.

    Padmanabha Krishnamurthy,

CFO, Paladion NetworksWithdrawing old high denomination (OHD) notes is a bril- liant move by the Modi Gov- ernment. It will contain the rising incidence of fake notes and black m o n e y . Though there would be some logistical issues for the common man to exchange OHD notes, on a larger scale it will serve the purpose. On the brighter side it encourages people to transact more on electronic mode payments like NEFT / RTGS / Internet bank-ing, mobile wallets, IMPS, credit/debit cards, etc. Government and RBI should encourage electronic payment transactions by making it free of cost for the people by eliminating the transaction fees that bank charges for the electronic mode transactions. On the cyber security front, it emphasizes banks to have a more secured banking platform for its cus-tomers to do electronic transactions and increase customers confidence level on it. In the recent past, we have seen vulnerabilities where certain bank ac-counts were compromised, etc. This has resulted in an increased focus and investments on Cyber Secu-rity spend from the banks, mobile wallets compa-nies, etc. This would help facilitate the growth that we could see in the electronic mode of banking transactions in India.
