Design ProjectChoose from Set, Costume or Publicity design and create your design based on a Fairy Tale or Adapted Fairy Tale. DO NOT steal a Disney design. This must be YOUR creation.All projects will have tri-fold display board to present your information including, the title of your play, your drawings and your explanation. BE CREATIVE! Use things you can find around your house or outside! You do not have to go out and buy things for this project! If you need assistance gathering the supplies for this project please see Ms. Ullrich.

Set designYou will design a set for your show. The final presentation will include step by step drawings or pictures of the creation process, a model and an explanation of your design concept all mounted neatly on a tri-fold display board.You will need to build a model at least 1ft X 1ft. (This is larger than a shoe box) The model can be made out of anything you would like, wood, foam board, popsicle sticks, legos etc. The model must be a reflection of a scene in the play. It must be in color and to scale. You will provide design renderings of your concept before you build your set. You will have a map of your set and a detailed drawing of your set from the audience perspective.In your explanation you will explain your design concept and thought process. Why did you choose these colors? Why did you use certain furniture? Why did you put the set pieces where you did? You will also describe how your design will be able to work on a real stage. How would you make it life-size? What materials would you use?

Original Costume DesignYou will create a wearable costume from scratch. The final presentation will include step by step drawings or pictures of the creation process, your costume and an explanation of your design concept all mounted neatly on a tri-fold display board.

You will provide design renderings of your concept before you construct your costume. You will have a pencil sketch and a detailed drawing of your costume in color.

In your explanation you will explain your design concept and thought process. Why did you choose these colors? Why did you use certain fabrics or materials? Why did you do this costume? How does your design embody the character? What time period did you chose and why?

This costume can be created out of anything you want! You do not have to sew fabric! It can be newspaper, tin cans, leaves etc. You may sew if you choose and have the prior knowledge to do so with little guidance. The costume must be wearable but you do not have to wear it.

Adapted Costume Design

You will create a wearable costume using an existing piece but transforming it to fit your character. The final presentation will include step by step drawings or pictures of the creation process, your costume and an explanation of your design concept all mounted neatly on a tri-fold display board.

You will provide design renderings of your concept before you construct your costume. You will have a pencil sketch and a detailed drawing of your costume in color.

How does your design embody the character? What time period did you chose and why? What did you start with and how did you change it?

You may pull something from our stock, your closet or purchase a base piece. You will add or remove items as necessary to make the article fit your play and concept. You can alter the item however you feel necessary. You may sew if you choose and have the prior knowledge to do so with little guidance. The costume must be wearable but you do not have to wear it.

Publicity Project

You will create a tri-fold board with a poster, shirt, program and ticket stub for your selected show.

Your poster must be 11in. X 17in. It can be printed or drawn. You must include the following items on your poster; Date/time, Place, Symbol, Title, Cost, you may want to include a Catch phrase.

You must have a marketing item. You must include the following items on youritem; Title, Symbol and Catch phrase.

The program must include a cover page, cast list, summary of the show, date, time and location of the performance and scene breakdown.

Your ticket stub must include title, time, date, location and cost of the production. You must also have an explanation for this project.

In your explanation you will explain your design concept and thought process.

You will provide design renderings of your concept before you begin creating your project. You will have sketches of each piece to the publicity project.

You will be able to work independently or with ONE partner of your choice. (Make sure they are trustworthy and reliable)

You will have several items due throughout the process:

March 20th-Story selection and brainstorming sheet due

March 26th- Initial sketches due

March 31st- All renderings due

April 7th- Explanation Rough Draft due

April 10th-Explanation FINAL DRAFT typed Due TEST GRADE!

April 21st- Tri-fold presentation board complete

April 28th- FINAL PROJECT DUE ALL COMPONENTS!
