SKILLS DEVELOPMENT LEVY (SDL)

In the event that your business’ salaries, wages and rations amount to more than R500 000 per

year, the South African Revenue Services (SARS) would demand of you to pay 1% of that

amount over to him (i.e...1% of R500 000 = R5 000). Together with a company called ELI, we

can claim that 1% (R2750) back to be utilized for training. The good news is that you may have

already paid SDL money over to SARS who in its turn has paid the bulk of the money over to

the relevant Seta and it’s waiting there to be claimed and used for training. If these moneys

aren’t claimed by you through us or any other accredited training institution and used for

training, then these moneys would be forfeited and a chance to better your workers’ technical

and life skills, would be lost.

EMPLOYMENT EQUITY

Any business that has more than 50 employees or has a turnover of more than R6 million, must

according to law register as an Employment Equity Organisation and certain procedures must

be followed and certain forms must annually be completed. In the event that your organisation

falls in this category, we will be able to complete the Employment Equity process for you.

Cost: R3000 per organisation

WIETA CONSULTANCY

The following are important if you are audited by WIETA.

In preparation for your WIETA audits later this year, it would be good if there was a WIETA

training session. This can be held with all your workers while there are still temporary workers

on the farm. Such a session lasts about 2 hours and can be offered by the farmer himself or it

can be done Murray Mallinson (Malfo training) services at R300 per hour.

Cost: R600 per organisation

EMPLOYEES EVALUATION

1. POTENTIAL ASSESSMENT (C.S.I.R.approved)

With this Evaluation, we measure the trainability of low level schooled and unschooled

workers. The evaluation consists of an orientation session as well as a CSIR (Council for

Scientific and Industrial Research) designed aptitude test. The Employer receives an evaluation

sheet depicting the trainability of all those that have been tested. With this sheet in hand, the

employer can then assess what training has to be given to whom and keep record of the

implementation thereof.

Time: 2 hours

Cost: R350 per person

Max. Size 15 persons

2. TEAM LEADER / SUPERVISOR EVALUATION We evaluate the leadership -skills and -characteristics of current and potential team leaders, supervisors,

and mid level managers. Comprehensive feedback is then given to the employer concerning the

leadership -strengths and -weaknesses of current and potential leaders. The employer evaluates his workers then on another level and would be able to allocate different leadership roles based on character

and skills.

Time: 3 hours Cost: R600 per person Max. Size 8 persons

58. MAKE IT RIGHT (RECONCILIATION)

This course was written in response to requests from farmers to address the tendency of farm

workers to fight, argue and molest and to bring reconciliation between the worker, his/her

turn leads to the destruction of relationships in the family and the wider community.

We emphasize in this course that everyone should take responsibility for their actions. We show

them how they could have reconciliation, forgiveness and the restoration of their relationships.

This course has had great success in our prisons and it has proved that people could change for
