Objective and Goals:
The objective of the video is to answer the topic question in an
entertaining fashion but also to an educational extent, the question is
What is the role of the trades in Albertas economy for the next decade.
Our goal was to set ourselves as a unique team with a unique idea. We
also want the audience and Skills judges to understand the problems wehad working with lack of direction and an inflexible and vague topic.
Intended Audience:
The targeted audience is not entirely static because of its general and Grated style of comedy. The intended viewers would centre on people intrade industries such as, Culinary, Auto Body, etc, because we created asatire film about Trades using situational/verbal irony.
Equipment used:
The equipment we used was extremely basic, a Sony MPEG2 12
megapixel 1080p HD camera, a microphone that attaches right on top of
the camera which was less than satisfactory, one tripod and two laptops,
one to type up the video brief and another to edit on Adobe Premiere Pro
CS5.5.
Approach/Treatment:
The style of our film is a mockumentry which came from ourdissatisfaction of the topic. Through observation we were able to identify
that the majority of the competitors were creating an interview/footage of
the area type coverage film, if we did the same style of film as other
groups we would surely not compare since our equipment is inferior. So
we took advantage of the topics vagueness and interpreted in our own
way and created a satire of Trades. We are narrating our video with two
different styles voice over and interview. We have direct interviews with
Skills Canada workers/volunteers, a stereotypical rural Albertan character
and a mock economist character. The voiceovers will be audio takensolely from the southern Albertan interview. The filming locations vary

between three different locations, outside the entrance of the Expo
Centre, the lunch hall and the main Expo Hall where all the competitions
are held. We included footage of interviews we did with Skills Canada
instructors, Supervisors and Teachers.
Innovative solution to problems:
We had two main problems during this competition, the main idea of the
video and obtaining usable footage due to broken or missing equipment.
The topic was extremely incompatible with our usual style of video
production so half the day was lost trying to make a video we didnt enjoy
or cared about. The problem was solved after eating delicious perogies,
the idea of eating two starch products in one made us think hmm how
about we use the word trade to mean barter. The second problem was
our equipment, the cord for our boom mic was lost and the wirelessmicrophone broke down and only sound was transmitting from one side
and it was not adjustable on our software so the only solution we could
come up with was to just use a borderline useless microphone that
connects to the top of our camera to the best of its ability. Getting
coherent interviews was difficult due to our situation we had to find
people willing to step away from their event and or wait for a short
moment where sound was not as loud.
