FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK / DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR
TEACHING AND PRAYING THE CREED
The last verses of Matthew’s Gospel, often referred to as
the Great Commission of Jesus to his disciples,
summarizes all the key themes of the Gospel and serves
as an appropriate ending for it.
Matthew portrays Jesus as one who teaches with
authority and who can be trusted. The teaching is reliable
and in line with God’s intention as spoken through the
Scriptures and through God’s action in our midst. This
teaching is reliably handed onto his followers who can
also be trusted and relied upon because throughout they
have understood the teaching and used it into their own
lives.
This teaching has been developed and spoken by the
community in a verbal formula we call the Creed. It took
centuries of prayer, study and arguments before the
Bishops of the entire Church met in council develop the
statements in our Creed. We still claim it as the mainline
Christian communities pray each Sunday at liturgy and
what the Church communicates in its catechetical
ministry.
The heart of the Creed is the Trinitarian reality we
celebrate on this day. That Trinitarian reality is the crucial
glimpse we have to the mystery that is God. We pray to
the Father, with the Son, in and through the power of the
Spirit. We articulate who God is by looking at the reality
of God in our midst, Jesus. We are guided and
enlightened by Jesus’ Spirit poured out throughout all of
creation.
What do these glimpses suggest about our God? They
suggest that God is one who already models for us what
we are to be about, namely, people in relationship who
work together to deepen and strengthen the bonds that
unite us all. They also suggest that to carry this out, we
need to “do” and not just “say.” In other words, the
Trinitarian mystery prayed and taught in the Creed is the
foundation for the faith that has to be lived out in
everyday life, and not merely something that we mouth
in prayers or in catechetical lessons. The Great
Commission send us out to teach others “to do” all that
Jesus has taught us. Let’s make sure that we are “doing”
what it is that we are sent out to teach. Let us “do” and
not just “say.”

ENSEÑANDO Y ORANDO EL CREDO
Los últimos versos del Evangelio de Mateo, conocidos
como la Gran Comisión que Jesús dio a sus discípulos,
resume todos los temas importantes del evangelio y sirve
como un final apropiado.
Mateo describe a Jesús como aquel que enseña con
autoridad y en quien se puede confiar. La enseñanza es
confiable y de acuerdo con las intenciones del Señor
como se expresa a través de las escrituras y a través de la
acción de Dios entre nosotros. Esta enseñanza se
transmite de forma confiable a sus seguidores en quienes
también se puede confiar y depender ya que han
comprendido la enseñanza y la han aplicado a sus propias
vidas.
Esta enseñanza ha sido desarrollada y narrada por la
comunidad a través de una formula verbal llamada Credo.
Fue necesario siglos de oración, estudio y argumentos
antes que los obispos de toda la iglesia se reunieran en
concilio para desarrollar las declaraciones del nuestro
Credo. Todavía es usado como el medio principal que las
comunidades cristianas rezan cada domingo en la liturgia

sugieren que para llevar a cabo esto, debemos "hacer" y
no solo "decir". En otras palabras, el misterio trinitario
rezado y enseñado en el Credo es el fundamento de la fe
que debe vivirse en la vida cotidiana, y no simplemente
algo que pronunciamos en las oraciones o en las lecciones
catequéticas. La Gran Comisión nos envió a enseñar a
otros a "hacer" todo lo que Jesús nos ha enseñado.
Asegurémonos de "hacer" lo que se nos envía a enseñar.
"Hagamos" y no solo "digamos.”

We also remember in prayer those of our parish family
who are battling chronic illnesses and those who are
homebound and are no longer able to attend Mass due
to present health concerns. May they experience God’s grace and healing power.
UPCOMING CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE
Due to the COVID pandemic, we were unable to
celebrate the lives of some of our parishioners who
were taken from us by the virus. The following
Celebrations of Life are scheduled in the month of
June:
Christine Gregoroski Bynum – We will
celebrate Christine and all her
accomplishments on Saturday, June 19,
2021. The family will be in the Parish
Hall from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm to
visit with all of Christine’s friends and
family members. Christine is a retired teacher from St.
Joseph’s School (now Academy) and a graduate of St.
Agnes High School. At noon a luncheon will be served
to honor Christine. Please come to celebrate
Christine’s life and legacy.
Jose Santillan – The family would like
to invite you to attend a Mass to
celebrate Jose’s life and achievements
on Saturday, June 26, at 11:00 am.
Jose is retired from St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton and was active in music. He
was the director of the Mariachi Moderno Band. A
dinner will follow the Mass at noon in the Parish Hall.
Please join with Zoila and Jose’s family to celebrate
his life.
Both Christine and Jose were very active in our
Parish, and we want to extend our deepest sympathies
and love to their families.

SACRED HEART NEEDS YOU
Volunteers are still needed for several committees
and special projects. If you are able to help, please
contact Father Gaspar or the office at 869-3646.
Any amount of time is greatly appreciated. Thanks
to all who have volunteered and who have
continued to serve our parish in so many ways.
Painting of Church – Volunteers are needed to
help with painting the church from May 31 to
June 4 in the evenings. If you are able to help, please
contact Father Gaspar or the office.
Removing carpet from the church – Volunteers
are needed for June 7-8 to help remove the old
carpet from the church. Time to be announced later.
Sorting and repacking bakery items - A couple
parishioners are needed to come in each
Monday to repackage the bakery items
that come in for our Food Pantry. This
usually takes an hour or so and is done
after 9:00 am on Monday morning.
Annual Rummage/Garage Sale – The
sale will be held at the end of July. The
volunteers will sort and price the various
items and will be available to help with
the sale on Friday and Saturday. Again, thanks to
Ruth Kellner for taking this on.
Funeral Dinners – Volunteers are
needed to help prepare, serve, and clean
up after funeral dinners. Ruth Kellner has
very graciously agreed to act as the
coordinator for the present time.
FESTIVAL OF THE NATIONS
The Festival will be held this year on
Saturday, August 28. This is an
extremely labor-intensive event, and
many helpers are needed to assist
before, during and after the evening. Volunteers
are needed for the Sale of Food, Food Prep, Renting
Space for your business to advertise, etc. Please
contact Fr. Gaspar or the office if you can help.
EL SAGRADO CORAZON TE NECESITA
Aun se necesitan voluntarios para varios comités. Si
pueden ayudar por favor comunicarse con la oficina
869-3646. Cualquier tiempo que puedan será muy

como voluntarios y han continuado sirviendo a

Venta anual de garaje: la venta se realizará este
año en Julio. Los voluntarios sortearan y pondrán
precios a los artículos y ayudarían con la venta
viernes y sábado. Gracias nuevamente a Ruth
Kellner por encargarse de esto.
Cenas de Funeral – Necesitamos voluntarios para
ayudar a preparar, servir y limpiar después de las
cenas de funeral. Ruth Kellner se ha ofrecido
amablemente a ser la coordinadora por ahora.
FESTIVAL DE LAS NACIONES
Este año el Festival será el 28 de Agosto. Este es un

ANGEL DUSTERS SCHEDULE
We are in need of volunteers to help with the cleaning of the church (Angel Dusters needed for both communities.) If you are able to help with this ministry, please contact the office. You will be committing to 1-2 hours every other month. Thank you for your continue support.
DIOCESAN DEVELOPMENT
FUND CAMPAIGN DDF REPORT
To date our parish has given $13,785 toward
our goal of $18,279 (or 75% of our goal) with
84% of our parishioners contributing. Thank
you! If you have not yet made your pledge, please add
your gift, whatever the amount, in unity with those who
have already given by returning a pledge card. Across
the diocese, $928,673 has been pledged toward the
$2,650,000 goal. The diocese and Church in southern
Missouri needs your participation.
VIRTUS TRAINING
The diocese has begun to schedule in-person Protecting God’s Children adult awareness sessions again. It is essential that you know and follow the directives of your local health department. Masking remains highly recommended. Social distancing is not required if masks are used or if there is no local ordinance requiring social distancing. Online training is also available. Our next class is at Springfield’s Holy Trinity Parish in the Fr. Allen Room on Saturday, June 12 from 9:00 am until Noon. Pre-registration is necessary. Please go to www.virtus.org and click on registration on the left or call your parish/school office for assistance. If you do not have access to the internet and are unable to register online,
please call the office.

SPECIAL THANKS
Thanks to all who made Trivia Night such a success.
Thanks to all who came and participated, thanks to
those who worked so hard to prepare for the evening, to
those in the kitchen, the set-up and cleanup crew. We
could not have put on such a great event without each
and every one of you. Because of your generous
support, we raised $1,161.00 for our Parish.
MEMORIAL DAY 2021
Because of continuing COVID-19
pandemic concerns, Bishop Edward M. Rice
will celebrate this year's Memorial Day Mass
(Mon., May 31), at Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church, 3555 S. Fremont Ave., Springfield. Mass will
begin at 9 a.m. Priests are invited to concelebrate, and
deacons are invited to vest for Mass. There will be plenty
of seating, but masks are required. The Springfield Area
Catholic Cemetery Board and the Knights of Columbus
will host refreshments afterwards. This is a beautiful
occasion to pray for our deceased loved ones, especially
the men and women who have served our nation and
have nowgone home to the Lord. The Mass will also be
Live-streamed and can be accessed at Immaculate
Conception Parish website https://www.ic-parish.org/
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School is an area-wide Catholic Vacation Bible School to be held at SEAS in Springfield from Sunday, June 13 thru Thursday, June 17 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm for students entering grades K-6. Registration forms are on the Gathering Space Table. Deadline is May
30. Volunteers are also needed during this time.
CAMP RE-NEWALL
Camp Re-NEW–All is open to campers going into fifth through ninth grade in the fall, high school staff going into tenth through twelfth grade, and adult staff. Parents and grandparents are also invited to volunteer. Campers are placed on a first-come, first-served basis. At this time, we plan to fill the cabins to fifty percent capacity to comply with CDC recommendations. At this time, the camp availability is full, but depending on future guidelines, more spaces may become available. If you are interested, please complete the registration form, but do not make payment at this time. You can just mark “other” in the payment section. DIA MEMORIAL 2021
Debido a las continuas preocupaciones por la pandemia de COVID-19 este año, el obispo Edward M. VACACIONES BIBLICAS ESCOLARES
Las Vacaciones Bíblicas Escolares es una Escuela Bíblica de toda el área que se realizara en SEAS, Springfield desde el domingo 13 de junio hasta el jueves 17 de junio de 6:00 pm a 8:30 pm para estudiantes que van a los grados K-6. Los formularios de inscripción están en el área de reunión. La fecha límite es el 30 de mayo. También necesitan voluntarios durante este tiempo.
CAMP RE-NEWALL
Camp Re-NEW-ALL! dirigido a campistas de los grados 5º a 9º; y personal adulto de la escuela secundaria grados 10º-12º. Invitamos a los padres y abuelos a ser voluntarios. Los campistas se asignan por orden de llegada. Planeamos llenar las cabañas al 50% de su capacidad para cumplir con las recomendaciones de los CDC. GARDENERS WELCOMED
Please join other volunteers from area parishes for our May workday caring for the grounds and 21 raised vegetable beds at Catholic Charities/LifeHouse on Thursday, May 27, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Bring your favorite gardening tools and work gloves. Volunteers will continue to wear masks and social distance. employee benefits for the Office of
Finance at The Catholic Center in
Springfield. Applicant must be a practicing Roman
Catholic. Qualified individuals will have an accounting
background and experience, including familiarity with
accounting software; excellent math, organization, and
multi-tasking skills; experience with employee benefits
systems; verbal communication skills in person and on
the phone; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
including Excel and Word; proficiency in using the
Internet, and be detail oriented. Must be able to work
independently in a multi-person office space. Position

La Diócesis de Springfield-Cape Girard está buscando candidatos calificados para ocupar el puesto de empelado contable en la oficina de Finanzas del Centro Católico- Springfield. El candidato debe ser un católico romano practicante. Las personas calificadas deben tener conocimientos y experiencia en contabilidad, incluso estar familiarizado con el uso de software contable; tener excelentes habilidades en matemáticas, ser organizado y poder realizar varias tareas al mismo tiempo; tener experiencia en el sistema de beneficios para empleados; habilidad de comunicación verbal en persona y por teléfono; tener dominio de Microsoft Office, incluidos Excel y Word; dominar el uso de Internet y fijarse en los detalles.
