Tidbits from Tommy

Children’s Ministry Matt Lee

Welcome! We warmly welcome Shane & Melissa Shoemaker to our Tates Creek Church Family by transfer of membership! The Shoemakers came to Tates Creek by invitation of Christie Kissick. Friendship Evangelism is by far the most effective way of bringing people to Jesus Christ! So, let’s keep inviting our family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors to church to meet our Lord.Congregational Meeting! This Sunday, October 13, is our Annual Congregational Meeting. During this meeting, we will consider leadership as well as the budget for 2014. The chairman of our Elders, Bill Clem, will lead this meeting which will take place during all three worship services.Bluegrass Christian Men’s Fellowship Hosting the Bluegrass Christian Men’s Fellowship on Monday evening, October 14, is Centerpointe Christian Church. This is Ladies’ Night. Starting time for the meal is 5:45 PM and the program will begin at 6:45 PM. The van will leave TCCC at 5:00 PM.Sermon Text & Theme Our text for this Lord’s Day is II Peter 1:20-21. We will examine the theme, Weird Book.

I want to express my CONGRATULATIONS to the Open Bible Sunday School Class. This class celebrated their Thirty-Year Anniversary yesterday. They have great teachers, Mike Critchfield and Craig Lee, and they have a great Class President, Wanda Johnson.

Update on Dad I want to thank everyone for praying for Dad & Mom. The latest CAT scans reveal that the cancer is growing again. So, Dad has started another round of chemo treatments. It has been three years since he was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer and has had 69 treatments so far. We are very thankful for the time our Lord is allowing us to have with him. And again, we are very thankful to each of you for asking about him and for praying for him. Serving in our Lord’s Kingdom here at Tates Creek is such a blessing! God is good...all the time! ~ Tommy

Celebrate Kids!! I love serving with children and families who are making a difference in the world around them! Welcome to another edition of celebrating the Tates Creek Christian Church kids. In this article we will celebrate a birthday, tell a story about a group of children praying around a flagpole, encourage two girls who served at God’s Pantry, and celebrate with one little fiddler!

Let’s start by wishing a big Congratulations to our preschool director, Lesley Tipton, and her husband, Lucas, on the birth of their son, Conner Tipton. We are excited to watch you grow, Conner! I know big sister Caitlan loves having you around as well. What a wonderful moment it was a couple weeks ago to stand on the outside of a circle of elementary students from Julius Marks Elementary. Starting at 7 AM they prayed together for their teachers, friends, school,

community, and country. The morning was entirely led by students and especially one amazing 5th grade girl. Your prayers are being answered and God is opening many doors! Way to go, Gabriella and Elaina Gray!

They spent an entire day serving at God’s Pantry! Your efforts are making a difference in the community!! Finally, what a huge surprise it was to David Lin when his family stopped at a rest stop in Alabama on the road to a fiddle contest and they found this brochure. Great job, little fiddler!!!

If your child has done something to serve others, has earned an award, or your family has some exciting news let’s celebrate it! Just send me an email with a picture or a message on facebook to let me know!! Way to go, kids! You are well on your way to being Luke 10:27 kids!! JME TUTORS and MENTORS TEAM IS GROWING! We now have 5 committed volunteers. The door is open for many more. Soon I will share some very exciting news of why this door is open! Let me know if you want to make a difference in the life of a child!!!! ~ Matt

New Young Families Sunday School Class! Our new Sunday School class for Young Families kicked off this past Sunday with 11 people in attendance! That’s great! If you are a parent/couple in your 20s and 30s and looking for a way to connect with others like you at Tates Creek, come check out this class. It meets in Room 307 on the 3rd Floor. The class has also planned a bonfire event, for anyone interested in the class, on October 25. More information on this will be coming soon. For more information on the class and its events, please contact Charlie Byers at [email protected] or Stuart Kearns at [email protected] Bible Class Celebrates 30 Years! Congratulations to the Open Bible Sunday School class on celebrating its 30th anniversary this past weekend! The class was started in 1983 and since then has gone on to have quite an impact on our congregation through the development of many relationships, support of many outreach efforts, and a strong foundation of Biblical teaching. What a great blessing to have so many groups with such strong fellowship as this! The Open Bible Class meets in Room 200A/B on the second floor. If you haven’t yet found a Sunday School class to call home, please be sure to contact me and I will be glad to help! ([email protected], 859-361-7250) Have a great week! In Christ, ~ Nic2013 Old and New Testament Challenge

Nic’s Notes

Don’s Dynamics As I mentioned in an earlier article, we have had the pleasure of several new singers joining the Worship Choir and new instrumentalists in T3CPO, our orchestra. Now is a great time to join forces with us as we prepare for the upcoming Christmas season. Special rehearsals for our Christmas Collage will be held on November 3, 10, 17 & 24 from 4:00—5:45 PM. Why not come and join the Choir for these rehearsals? The orchestra will join us on November 24 and subsequent rehearsals. Final plans are being made for this year’s Concert Series at Tates Creek Christian Church. Please watch for a color brochure detailing concerts by our worship ministry that will be distributed in the Sunday bulletin on October 13. This brochure will highlight special evening concerts and also list special musical guests we will host on Sunday mornings through next June. Please feel free to use these brochures to invite friends to attend. Extra copies will be available in the tract rack in the Main Foyer. We host these concerts for worship, for encouraging the body of Christ, and to introduce non-believers to Jesus. ,

Our first concert will be held on November 21 at 7:00 PM when we host the Pfeifers. They were originally scheduled for June, but had to postpone their concert. I understand, after talking with Bill Johnson who coordinates the “gospel artist series” of our concert series, that not only will the Pfeifers be singing for us, but they also have a trumpeter and saxophonist in the group. Make plans to attend this concert now and watch for more advertising in our publications.

On a personal note, I will complete 9 years and start my 10th year with you later this month. This now becomes my longest ministry with a local church. In addition to some shorter ministries along the way, I completed 8 years 10 months at Western Hills Church of Christ in Cincinnati, Ohio, and 8 years 6 months with First Christian Church in Tarpon Springs, Florida. God has been very good to me over the last 36 years of full-time worship ministry. Prior to that I served for 4 years in youth ministry while in college. I am so gracious to have served in a family with 4 sons in the ministry and a dad who continues to minister on a part-time basis as a preacher at age 83! ~ Don

Gently Used LuggageThe Womens Ministry is asking for donations of gently used luggage, duffel bags, and/or backpacks. We have learned from our friends at the Bair Foundation, many children transport their belongings in trash bags. As a result, we ask that you consider donating any used luggage. Please bring your donations to the Servants for Christ Class in room 200E on Sunday, Oct 20 and 27.
