Economic significance of the disease:

PRRSV is endemic in pigs. The syndrome causes significant losses in the swine in-dustry due to reproductive disorders, respiratory conditions, and growth retardation.

Why PCR?

PRRSV can be detected in blood and semen 24–48 hours after infection. Real-time PCR is the most sensitive method for monitoring RNA amplification.
