    Reagents forAtomic Absorption Spectrometry

  • Reagents for Atomic Absorption SpectrometryAtomic spectral analysis, including atomic absorption spectrometry, requires reagents free of metallic impurities for sample pretreatment, and solutions for calibration standard. Introduced here are our reagents for atomic absorption spectrometry applied in the field of atomic spectral analysis.

Ultrapur series consist of highest purity reagents, which will be used for pretreatment of samples analyzed with highly sensitive analytical instruments.Ultrapur reagents are featured with lower metal impurities of which contens are smaller than the detection limit of the analytical instruments in order to obtain lowest reagent blank during the analysis.

In atomic absorption analysis, almost all samples are measured while in solution. Therefore, organic compounds and metals must be treated with acid to make sample solutions. Generally, breakdown is not carried out by single acid, but by a combination of two or three acids, such as sulfuric acid+nitric acid, sulfuric acid+hydrogen peroxide solution, and nitric acid+perchloric acid. These acids are also used for the preparation of standard solutions or buffer solutions.

Alkalis are used for pH adjustment of sample solutions and alkali fusion of solid samples.

Samples resistant to acid treatment are heated with a fusing agent to yield a liquid form. Usually, basic fusing agents such as sodium carbonate are used for acidic samples and acidic agents for basic samples.

Oxidizing agents are used in combination with acids for samples not decomposed by acid alone.

Reducing agents are used when analyzing As, Sb, or Hg as a hydride by the reducing vaporization method.

These solvents are used for the separation of desired elements in liquid samples. There are two separation methods: 1) to extract the desired element as a complex with the chelating reagent, and; 2) to extract and remove a coexisting element.

When the determination of the desired element is complicated by a coexisting element, the formation of a complex with a masking reagent is useful to prevent such problems.

The desired element is sometimes over-or underestimated due to the influence of a coexisting element. Chemical or ionic interference during the process of atomization is responsible for this phenomenon, and can be prevented by the addition of a large amount of the third element to the sample solution.

The test report of the reagents (Lot analysis) is attached to individual package.Ultrapur reagents are filled in specially designed bottles to maintain original purity of the reagents during storage and transportation. To keep away those reagents from contamination by laboratory environment it should be operate in the clean room, clean box or clean hood.

The reagents of this grade to be used for determination of the trace amount of poisonous metals such as As, Cd, Cr, Pb, or Hg, in environmental water, drinking water and foods. Therefore the specifications of those reagents are strictly limited the amount of those metal impurities below ppb level.

These are the series of reagents designed for atomic absorption spectroscopy having suitable specifications for sample pre-treatment, interfering inhibitros and preparation for calibration standard solution.Much more impurities are specified on the standard than the reagents for precision analysis.

UGR is are the series of reagents for precision analysis. These are higher purity than JIS GR reagents.

Besides of the reagents mentioned above, following reagents are included in this brochure.

Standard solution for ICP spectrometry.Reagents for determination of Iron.Reagents for measurement of Nitrogen and Phosphate.Reagents for analysis of Arsenic.Guaranteed reagents.JIS GR reagents.

When As, Sb, Se, Cd or Pb is analyzed by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry in a sample containing many interfering components in its matrix, addition of a matrix modifier helps to remove the interfering components by chemically modifying the matrix and preventing the evaporation of the desired element.

*Traceable as specific standard substances (National Measurement Standards) prescribed in Article 134, the Measurement Law

    100 mg/L Standard solutions

The new Measurement Law was officially announced on May 20, 1992, and became enforceable on November 1, 1993. This amendment has introduced the traceability system (JCSS) with the purpose of establishing reference standards of great precision and clarifying the relationship between these standards and national measurement standards. Under JCSS, calibration laboratories are assessed and accredited as Accredited Calibration Laboratories by the Minister of International Trade and Industry (present, Minister of Economy and Industry). Theyare able to calibrate and evaluate their user's reference standards or working standards with their Secondary Standards, and issue calibration certificates with the JCSS logo mark.Being designated as Accredited Calibration Labo-ratories, Kanto is manufacturing and marketing metal, ion, and pH reference standards that conform to JCSS. We attach the calibration certificate bearing the JCSS logo mark to these products to certify the traceability to National Measurement Standards as well as the laboratory's technical and operational competence.

    ● Labels Indicating Concentration and PrecisionAll of the standard solutions and standard stock solutions carry labels describing concentrations in mg/L. Regarding JCSS products, we guarantee the range of uncertainty to within ±0.6% for 1000ppm and ±1% for 100ppm.

    ● Terms of GuaranteeThe term of guarantee is two years from the date of manufacture and is shown on the label. ※ Precautions● Store in a cool place, protected from light.● Use diluted solutions as soon as possible in order to avoid any problems that may have been caused by dilution.● Most products have been made acid or alkali, as shown in the label, to prevent precipitation. When they are diluted with water, precipitation may occur depending on the amount of dilution. Caution is advised.
