The a c t i v e defense i s not only about r e t r e a t i n g an d h i d i n g . The r e t r e a t phase i s

f o r g e t t i n g your family an d non-combatants t o s a f e t y an d out of the way of an a s s a u l t which may

be in tended t o murder d i s s i d e n t voices an d f a m i l i e s . The next phase i s t o p ro v i s io n your family

an d non-combatants with resources l i k e s h e l t e r , food an d water . The next phase i s the defense

phase. You moved your family or people out of the way of an a s s a u l t because you knew you could

not hold ground and keep h o s t i l e forces from k i l l i n g or c a p t u r i n g your fam ily or people . You

cannot remain hidden an d expect your family t o ever be f r e e from a l i f e o f hiding an d running or

see the l i g h t of freedom on your country ever again. Your only opt ion now i s t o f i g h t a

g u e r r i l l a war. Returning t o your home t o r e t a k e an d hold ground i s a l s o not an o pt i o n. Y o u 'l l

merely be counter a t t a c k e d an d murdered. Your b e s t opt ion i s t o f i g h t the enemy on your terms,

before they can deploy personne l a g a i n s t you. You know the a r e a s t h a t have been a t t a c k e d by the

enemy an d the roads l eading i n and out of the a r e a . F i r i n g on unprotected convoys of a t t a c k i n g

t roops an d using improvised explos ive devices t o d i s r u p t o p e r a t i o n s an d t roop movements an d t o

c u t enemy l o g i s t i c s l i n e s w i l l help t o bo g down o p e r a t i o n s an d de lay a s s a s s i n a t i o n r a id s a ga in st

o t h e r Americans. Provis ions l a i d back i n c ach es s ho uld a l s o be made f o r t h i s type of warfare .

Scouting an a r e a semi-separate from your main fade back a r e a t o mainta in o p e r a t i o n s f o r

g u e r r i l l a warfare would be h e l p f u l .

Eventual ly , caches w i l l be ex hausted o f t h e i r s u p p l i e s . S up plies tak en from the

enemy should always be taken advantage o f . Such s u p p l i e s an d caches sh ou ld never be t r a c e a b l e t o

the fade back a r e a where your family i s hidden. Caches o u t s i d e of your main fade back a r e a w i l l

be u t i l i z e d t o s t o r e captured enemy s u p p l i e s .

This i s the g i s t of the a c t i v e defense . You mainta in a r e t r e a t away from p o p u l a t i o n

c e n t e r s which w i l l be hard t o defend or maneuver wi t h i n . You gain f a m i l i a r i t y with a l l roads ,

thoroughfares an d t r a i l s t o your r e t r e a t from your p r e s e n t home. o u t s i d e of your r e t r e a t , you

mainta in a fade back a r e a where you and your fam ily or group can remain hidden. You w i l l

mainta in resources f o r s h e l t e r , camping, food an d water i n t h i s a r e a . You w i l l a l s o mainta in

caches of s u p p l i e s l i k e am mu nitio n, f oo d, water f i l t e r s , c l o t h i n g an d o t h e r n e c e s s i t i e s . This

a r e a w i l l be maintained t o keep your family an d non-combatants hidden an d p r o v i s i o n e d while

Americans a r e being rounded up an d i n c a r c e r a t e d or murdered. Close by, but s e m i - s e p a r a t e , you

w i l l mainta in cache a r e a s where yo u w i l l s t o r e captured s u p p l i e s an d b u i l d improvised equipment.

This l a s t a r e a w i l l a l s o be used as a base a r e a where you can organize o p e ra ti on s t o s t r i k e back

a t enemy forces t h a t have a t t a c k e d Americans. Even though your f i r s t goal i n an a c t i v e defense

i s t o make an enemy miss you with h i s s t r i k e , t h is does not mean t h a t yo u w i l l not engage the

enemy. You w i l l merely engage the enemy when he i s v u l n e r a b l e an d does not ex pect t o be h i t .

I have not gone i n t o t a c t i c s of g u e r r i l l a warfa re as y e t i n t h e s e a r t i c l e s or the

types of gear an d equipment you want t o cache o r keep i n your go-bag. I w i l l d e t a i l a l l of t h i s

i n a r t i c l e s t o come. Fo r now, you have some homework t o do. We a r e approaching some very hard

times an d you need t o be as prepared as you well as you p o s s i b l y can be f o r those t imes . Would

Remote Transceiver Operations, Part 1by Dr.Noxx

After moving to a new domicile, my new setup posed some interesting challenges. As with most relationships, certain concessions

must be made with your partner in order to achive domestic tranquility. Perhaps I am lucky, as I have full reign over the basement,

and have struck a deal to utilize the attic to house my antenna systems. Unfortunately, that leaves two full f loors between myself

and my radio/antenna systems.

Thus my venture into remote control of transceivers. Wonderfully, I did not have to pull much together from scratch. Computer

Aided Transceiver (CAT), simple VolP applications, and Windows Remote Desktop and/orVirtual NetworkConsole (VNC) has made

this a relatively simple Integration project. The main thrust of this article was to Remote Control my radio's in the attic from the

basement. In this scenario, bandwidth is not an issue, therefore high bandwidth control options were not ruled out. Analysis into the

bandwidth of the various solutions will be given to determine feasibility for various link capacities.

Unfortunately, at this point, there appears to be a flaw in combining two transceivers on one PC. Due to automatic mixing

functionality on in the PC sound framework reception from one transceiverwill be transmitted when you attempt to transmit from

another. It is also difficult with current VolP applications to know which stream is being received. This is merely an interface and

operational issue that can eventually be solved. At this point, this article will not go [NOTE: AT LEAST NOT FOR NOW] into

delineating this technical dilema.

So, right now it is one PC per CATenabled transceiver. Multiple Scanning receivers can be controlled and monitored on a single

PC. In this article, WinRadio's are used, but any computer controllable scanning receiver should be monitorable.

Throughout the rest of this document the Control Station Serverwill refer to the computer that is directly connected to the radio

transceivers/receivers. The Control Station Clientwill refer to the computer that is connecting to the server to control the attached

transceivers/receivers.

Control Station Server Computer Requirements

Hardware should baseline with:

- Pili or greater processor 500Mhz+-256MB RAM

- 10GB Hard or Solid State Disk

- USB 2.0 would be best, 1.2 works.

- At least one Network Interface, wired or wireless (802.11alb/gin)

- Sound capabilities (On-board, PCI or USB fine)

- Basic VGA card for console display, minimally 1024x768.

When setting up the BIOS, be sure to enable fast-boot and ignore errors to boot without stopping for errors. This helps if you intend

to remove the keyboard.

Control Station Server Software Pre-Requisites

By far the easiest solution is to load all the control software onto a PC running Windows XP and utilizing Remote Desktop. There

are Remote Desktop clients for Windows 2000 that enable the Windows 2000 machine to exhibit control over a Windows XP

machine, but not vice versa . Remote Desktop can remote audio to the controlling station. Therefore, no VolP software is required

and this configuration is the simplest to setup.

I prefer windows 2000 or Iinux. Windows 2000 was the last version of a Microsoft OS that didn't phone-home or have active

software validation mechanisms. There are a few gotcha's when using windows 2000 with newer hardware (particularly sound

devices), those are covered in the article. Additionally, if you choose Windows 2000, or have linux boxes in the mix, uitraVNC is the

way to go. We will go over the procedure to install and setup a basic secured uitraVNC configuration via a RC4 crypto plugin.

Absolute critical software required to remotely administer this system:

UltraVNC

During the installation, select Register UltraVNC as a service, and select Start or Re-Start UltraVNC as a service.

Reboot the system. On a separate system (control station client), connect to the control station server via UltraVNC.

In the properties page, set the default password immediately. This password is required when you attempt to connect to the control

station from a Remote PC. On both the client and the server, in the Admin Properties screen, enable the DSM Plugin: MSRC4Plugin

122.dsm. Don't forget to click "config" and then the "Generate Key" box.

You now have basic RC4 encryption protection for the VNC session. This is required if operating over the Internet however I do not

discuss running VNC or any of the remote access software through a wireless gateway or router and through the Internet in this

installment.

UltraVNC allows you full control over the remote PC. Very handy for updating software and administrative tasks. You can also use it

to control many remote programs, however, you must push and pull audio via some other mechanism.

One last configuration critera worth thinking about is the auto-login and starting up the required programs in the event your computer

reboots or power cycles. I created an operator windows user. Create this user and set the password. Toallow autologon of that

user after a power cycle (useful if the PC is three floors above you) you must edit the registry. It is relatively simple. Click on the

START menu and select Run. Type 'regedit', and press enter. You will not be in the registry editor. By clicking on "keys" in the

lefthand side of the registry, navigate to:

- Double-Click on the AutoAdminLogon and change the Value data from 0 to 1

- Double-Click on DefaultUserName and change the Value data to the usemame you which to autologin as.- Double-Click on DefaultPassword and change the Value data to the password of the usemame you entered

above (minor security risk here)

- Double-Click on ForceAutoLogon and Change the Value data from 0 to 1

Note: Ifany of the above do not exist, simply right-click on the right pane in an open area and select New, String Value. Enter the

String Value First (Name), then Double-clickon the newly created Value and then Enter the Value data. For example,

AutoAdminLogin would be the Name, and 1 would be the Value data.

Test it out by restarting the computer. You should now be auto-Iogon'ed as the user entered above.

Now that the user can Auto-Logon to windows after a boot session, it is now time to set TeamSpeak Server, TeamSpeak Client and

HamRadioDeluxe to run on startup. We accomplish this by once again editing the registry via regedit.

Again, run regedit and navigate to the following key:
