TANZANIA STANDARDIZED SKILLS LABORATORY
The competence-based curriculum of Tanzanian nursing schools requires students to gain a wide
range of clinical competencies that will prepare them to meet Tanzania’s identified health service
needs. In accordance with the requirements of the standardized curriculum, the Ministry of Health
and Social Welfare’s Nurse Training Unit has identified the necessity of providing all nursing
students with access to an adequate skills laboratory in which they can gain and practice the skill
competencies required of them. A work group consisting of experienced nurse tutors, nurse
principals, and nurse leaders has developed the following skills laboratory materials list as a
standard to be implemented in all nursing schools. The materials have been carefully identified to
match the curriculum and the demands of the clinical environment. The items of highest priority
