Calling all those who are interested in becoming Catholics! RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is a process by which non-baptized men and women enter the Catholic Church. It’s also for those adults who might have been born Catholic, but were not formally educated in the Catholic faith.

The RCIA process involves several stages marked by group study and discussion, personal prayer, and various rites that are celebrated at Mass. For those participating, it is a steady journey of personal conversion as they study the Gos-pel, grow their faith in Jesus Christ and their knowledge of the Catholic Church, and ultimately receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, reconciliation, and Holy Eucharist. The RCIA process follows the ancient practice of the Church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the standard way in which adults prepare for full communion with the Church. You can also check out the St. Louis Archdiocese website on RCIA at http://archstl.org/becomingcatholic.

Summer is quickly drawing to a close, and this season's RCIA sessions will start in September. You can sign up now by contacting Laura Marlo at 636-346-7983. Come and see!

Join Holy Infant Parish’s Greeter Ministry! You’ve probably no ced our friendly greeters welcoming you into church each week. Our mission is to welcome all visi-tors and parishioners with a warm smile

and gracious spirit as we come together as a church family for Mass. We are looking for more greeters to join our ministry. The commitment is once a month for about 15 minutes before Mass begins. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved. All ages are welcome. For more informa on please contact: Amber Hurst at (314) 809-4393 or [email protected]

Dear Parishioners,

As many of you are aware, Fr. Vordtriede, Fr. Burkemper and I make a point a er our weekend Masses to greet visitors and guests of Holy Infant. You may be surprised at how many guests and visitors we have with us every weekend. Some mes, they are parishioners from neigh-boring parishes who find a Mass me convenient, or they might be parents of a parishioner in town checking up on a son or daughter. Some of the "newbies" are just that, folks new to the neighborhood and the parish. So many of these are younger folks, o en couples expec ng their first child or those just having welcomed a new baby to their families. I spot them on their way out of church, welcome them and try to get their names. I am always wondering if any in the congrega on, the "regulars" if you will, have also reached out to those who are with us for the first me. It is hard in any situa on to break into a new group, and it can be especially difficult in a parish where many of us have known each other for many years. It is quite natural to gravitate to those we already know, but the research has shown that unless new pro-spec ve members are recognized and welcomed, it is far less likely that they will be back. So I encourage all of our parishioners to extend a warm welcome to those you don't know. Even if someone has been coming to church here for a while, they don't mind being acknowledged. You can also sign up to be one of our greeters. See more informa on in this bulle n. Hospitality is so important; it might just be one of the more important of all Chris an virtues.

On a different note, we are fortunate to have many great organiza ons and ministries within our parish communi-ty! One of our great organiza ons is the Holy Infant Mothers of Preschoolers (“MOPS”). They are currently enrolling members for 2017-2018. Their first mee ng will take place on Wednesday, September 6th from 9:15 a.m. un l 11:15 a.m. in the Holy Infant Room. MOPS is a faith-based community of mothers who offer each other support and discussion regarding paren ng, marriage, health and overall well-being.

Childcare for infants, toddlers and preschoolers is provid-ed during the MOPS mee ngs. Newborns can a end mee ngs with their mothers. There are social ac vi es for children and adults. All mothers with kindergarten-aged children or younger are invited. If you would like addi onal informa on, you may contact Tammy Eilers at (314) 610-8954.

God’s blessings for a great week!

Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop Offered At Holy Infant Saturday, September 30th 9a.m.-11 a.m. (Registra on begins at 8 a.m.)

This half-day workshop in the Upper Cafeteria consists of three sessions designed both to enhance par cipants’ caregiving skills and to help congrega ons explore ways to expand their caring ministry. This is for all St. Louis area Stephen Ministries.

The workshop is sponsored by Stephen Ministries, the St. Louis-based Chris an training organiza on that has been providing con-grega ons with training and resources for Chris an caregiving since 1975. The workshop will be led by Mrs. Kathy Hollenbeck, a trained Stephen Minister and Stephen Leader who has been a member of the staff at the Stephen Ministries Center in St. Louis since 2012.

In the first session of the workshop, “Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief,” par cipants learn about the grief process—the stag-es of grief and how to minister to people in each of those stages. They’ll gain the skills and confidence to be er care for individuals who are grieving.

The second session provides an introduc on to the Stephen Series, a system of lay caring ministry through which congrega on leaders can equip members to provide one-to-one Chris an care to people in need. Since 1975, more than 12,000 congrega ons represen ng more than 170 denomina ons have implemented the Stephen Series.

The final session of the workshop explains “How to Care in a Dis nc vely Chris an Way.” Par cipants learn what makes Chris an caregiving unique and how they can use resources like prayer, blessings, and Scripture in their caring of others.

The cost of the workshop is $15 per person, but since Holy Infant is hos ng the workshop, our members can a end for no charge. Holy Infant will be forming a new training class in October. This is a great opportunity to learn about this caring ministry, led by a Stephen Leader from Stephen Ministry’s World Headquarters.

To register for this workshop please email [email protected]

The Holy Infant Class of 1987 Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 16th at the Wildwood Pub & Grill at 6PM. Please contact Marlowe Valdeabella at

[email protected] for addi onal informa on.

Stephen Ministry...Eleven Years and s ll going strong! We began using Stephen Ministers here at Holy Infant in 1996 and we have seen the great value of lay caring ministry. Another training class will be forming in October. Give serious considera on to this ques on: “Would my gi s and talents be put to good use as a Stephen Minister?” To learn more, you can a end an “info night” on September 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the upper cafeteria. Would you like to make a difference in the life of someone going through a difficult me? We will give you the training to do this. Join us on September 14th.
