THE DEMANDS OF DISCIPLESHIP
Today we encounter readings that already have a Len-ten feel about them. Nineveh undergoes a forty-day fast, the psalmist reminds us that God alone can show sinners the way, Paul shows us how flee ng the things and events of this world are, and Jesus cries out “Repent!” before he calls his new followers. “Come a er me,” Jesus says, but if we are to truly live out the commands and demands of our discipleship through bap sm, we must first know our need for conversion, our repentance, our need to believe in the gospel fully. Today’s Gospel opens with the stark reminder of what befell John the Bap st for completely living out his voca on as the herald of Christ and the gos-pel: he was arrested, imprisoned, and martyred. Though few of us will experience consequences that extreme, we must all be ready to risk some sort of rejec on as, heeding the call of Jesus, we live out the kingdom of God at hand, repent of our sins, and believe in the good news of salva-
on.

I invite all our parishioners considering Cath-olic educa on to a end Mass and browse through our School and see the fantas c things that happen here every day for our young people! Please encourage your friends, neighbors and rela ves to come and
We are asked by the Archdiocese of St. Louis to provide a copy of the St. Louis Review newspaper to each household in our parish. We ask that as much as possible, you might pay for your subscrip on through the specially marked envelope or through Faith Direct. If you would like to receive the St. Louis Review, but you truly find the cost a hardship, we will gladly provide it for you. Please no fy us at the parish office, (636)
On another note, if you are interested in making a retreat, I encourage you to consider a ending an upcoming Christ Renews His Parish Re-treat here at Holy Infant. The Men’s CRHP retreat is February 24 and 25 and
Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP, pronounced “chirp”) is a spiritual re-newal experience that brings adult parishioners together in a casual, relaxed atmosphere in order to deepen their rela onship with Jesus Christ and each other. This retreat experience has proven to be an effec ve instrument for spiritual growth for hundreds of our parishion-ers over the years. I have personally a ended a Christ Renews His Par-ish Retreat and found it to be very worthwhile!
If you are interested in making a Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) Re-treat, CRHP members will be in the ves bule this weekend. There is also informa on on our parish website or you may call Anne Mosinski at
On another note, the season of Lent is approaching. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday on February 14th. One of the two forms that we say when we impose ashes include the words “remember.” We are told: “Remember that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return.” On this day, we are invited to wear on our foreheads a cross of ashes to re-member that we belong to someone else. Lent is such a great season to regain a sense of direc on and meaning and purpose in our lives.
This year, we will have a special Lenten opportunity as Fr. James Mason, the President/Rector of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary will be here for our Parish Mission beginning, Sunday February 25th, with a presenta on on “Rela onal Prayer” and again on Tuesday, Feb-ruary 27th speaking about “True Freedom and Fulfillment” and on Wednesday, February 28th with a presenta on en tled: “Healing from the Divine Physician.” Each of these presenta ons will begin at 7:00 p.m. in church. Please mark your calendars now and plan on a ending.
Finally, speaking of upcoming events, please mark your calendars now for our annual Holy Infant St. Patrick’s Day Celebra on which will take place on Sunday, March 11th from 1:00 un l 7:00 p.m. This year, we are delighted to welcome back Sr. Rosario and Sr. Lauren a who will be here for the celebra on! All of the proceeds of this annual St. Patrick’s Day event help to support the many ministries in our parish community, including Holy Infant School, our Parish School of Religion, our liturgies, our youth pro-grams,
The St. Patrick’s Day Silent Auc on Commi ee is currently working on collec ng items for the auc on. If you have any crea ve ideas or would like to donate any par cular items, such as a travel package, signed memorabilia, gi baskets, artwork, gi cards, golf lessons, sports ckets, concert or theatre ckets, etc. - your generosity or your sugges ons would be most welcome! ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17
Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all Chris ans! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are “ready” or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gi s means that things aren’t always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much be er plan in store for each of us.
