On the eve of Teachers’ Day Celebration this year, the children witnessed the ‘Time Capsule Event’. It gave me an opportunity to connect back with my ex-classmates, colleagues and students. You may also want to share with your child about your anniversary celebrations in school as a student. It is definitely a conversation piece over breakfast, lunch, dinner or even in the morning when you send your child to school. Engage your child. Find out which activity had excited them and their thoughts about the entire celebrations. Amidst all these celebrations, our Primary 6 students will be sitting for the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) at the end of September and early Oct. Their journey in the primary school is also coming to an end. We would like to help them have fond memories of their years in the school. This is indeed a proud moment for parents, students and teachers as our primary six students mature into young adolescents and move on to the next phase of their journey secondary school. We want to wish them all the best as they prepare for this final lap and may they achieve their goals. Finally, I would like to wish all our students and parents a great start to Term 4! From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Term 4 will be an exciting term as the school gears up for our Silver Jubilee (25th Anniversary) Celebrations on 3rd October.

The celebrations started in Term 3, with a range of pre-anniversary celebration activities in preparation for the actual day.

The children had participated in the “Wall Mural Activity” which required them to write down their aspirations and wishes for the school. Titled “Soaring on Wings”, it will be officially unveiled by our Guest of Honour, Mr Loke Chee Peng, our School Cluster Superintendent on the day of the celebrations.

The students were also involved in the naming of the ‘Limited Edition Commemorative’ bears. Priced at $11.80 per pair of bears, they represent the qualities of Care and Resilience, the school values of TNPS. The bears will be sold on the day of the celebrations as well.

On the eve of Teachers’ Day Celebration this year, the children witnessed the ‘Time Capsule Event’. Students from each class has discussed with their form teachers and identified an item representative of their class to be placed into the time capsule. The time capsule would provide an opportunity for our students from the past and future to reminisce their memories of the school.

As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, it brought back memories of my school anniversaries when

I was a student and a teacher. It gave me an opportunity to connect back with my ex-classmates,

colleagues and students. You may also want to share with your child about your anniversary

celebrations in school as a student. It is definitely a conversation piece over breakfast, lunch,

dinner or even in the morning when you send your child to school. Engage your child. Find out

which activity had excited them and their thoughts about the entire celebrations.

Amidst all these celebrations, our Primary 6 students will be sitting for the Primary School Leaving

Examinations (PSLE) at the end of September and early Oct. Their journey in the primary school

is also coming to an end. We would like to help them have fond memories of their years in the

school. This is indeed a proud moment for parents, students and teachers as our primary six

students mature into young adolescents and move on to the next phase of their journey –

secondary school. We want to wish them all the best as they prepare for this final lap and may

they achieve their goals.

Finally, I would like to wish all our students and parents a great start to Term 4! Thank you for

your support and understanding.

4. SCHOOL HOURS 2020 In Term 3, we conducted a survey with teachers, parents and selected students, to find out their preference of school hours for 2020. We considered many factors during our deliberation stage which includes feedback from our stakeholders and observations of students in and out of the classroom. Finally, based our professional judgement on what would benefit the students best in terms of their development and well-being, we have decided on the following school hours stated below: School Hours : Mon to Fri – 7.30 am to 1.30 pm CCA Hours : Mon/Thurs : 3.30 to 5.30 pm Remedial Hours : 2.00 to 3.00 pm The students will have a 30-minute recess break and a short snack break later in the day. Our Co-curricular Activities (CCA) days will be on either Mondays or Thursdays or both days. More details will be provided to you in 2020. If you have any concerns about the changes, please include your concerns in the Acknowledgement Slip provided and we will get back to you. Your concerns are our concerns as well. We want what is best for our students. We seek your understanding and support as we shift to these new hours in 2020. Alternatively, you can call us at 67854329 or email us at [email protected].

8. STUDENT WELL-BEING MATTERS In view of the Haze situation with the increased number of hot spots in Sumatra and Kalimantan,

and the continued dry weather, parents are advised to update your child’s form teacher on your

child’s medical conditions.

The school is also taking precautionary measures to ensure the well-being of our students. We

seek the understanding of parents with the changes in the after-school programme schedule,

including cancellation of activities and events due to unforeseen circumstances. Parents will be

informed of the changes via Parent Gateway, school website and through the students.

Students are also recommended to wear their PE T-shirts with school pinafore/ shorts on non-

PE/CCA days. These arrangements will continue till the end of the school term.

9. CARING TEACHER AWARDS 2020 The Caring Teacher Awards (CTA) are aimed at acknowledging and rewarding those teachers in our schools who show care and concern for the holistic development of their students and go the extra mile to ensure their charges grow up to be confident and independent learners. Nominees for the awards should fulfill the following criteria: a. Be a full-time teacher in a primary school, a secondary school or junior college/centralised

institute in Singapore; b. Possess at least three years of teaching experience in Singapore; and c. Demonstrate exemplary character, initiative, integrity, altruism and a proven record of service to

their schools and students. While demonstration of good teaching practices and the ability to deliver excellent examination results are part of the selection criteria, the emphasis of the awards is on the humanistic qualities of the teaching profession. We would like to encourage our parents/guardians and students to nominate our deserving teachers for the Caring Teacher Award 2020. All nomination forms, either the online submission or hard copy forms are to be submitted by 20 October 2019.
