Term 1 Week 9 Monday 25th March 2019
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Thanks so much to all for your support of our Harmony Day celebrations. Everyone looked fabulous in their orange
gear and the kids had a wonderful day of activities. Thank you to Miss Robinson for organising this year. Thanks
also to our Stage 3 leaders for their work with the Peer Support groups.
What a delight to greet the kids back last Friday from Canberra Camp. Although the kids were tired, they all said
they had a fantastic time. Special thanks to Mrs Groves, Mrs Rodgers, Miss Tinsey and Mrs Richards for giving up
their family time to take the children on this excursion.
During the Stage 3 tour of the national capital last week, students were given the opportunity to participate in a
variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian
Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of
their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian
Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program
towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and has already
been factored into the total cost of the excursion.
We had a great fundraising day on Saturday with our BBQ and Cake Stall for Election Day. We have raised over
$1000 from the BBQ and a terrific sum of at least $600 from your kind donations to the Cake Stall. P&C will used
these funds to support the purchases of resources for the kids. Sincere thanks to all of our volunteers, from
organising the roster, purchasing the food, setting up, cooking all day, serving and packing up around 2.30pm.
Special thanks to our Student Executive team and extra student volunteers for giving up their Saturday for our
school.
On Wednesday 3rd April, The School Photographer will be returning to take both the Staff Photo and Whole School
Photo that couldn't be taken on our actual photo day. Please ensure your child / children are in full school uniform,
with black shoes, for the whole school photo to be taken first thing after morning lines. Please do not send children
with hair accessories that are not uniform colours.
Cross Country is coming up on the 4th April. If you can assist on the day with track marshalling, please let Miss
Frost know.
Easter Hat Parade will be held on the last day of school Friday 12th April. Further information will be coming home
shortly.
Lastly, the news we have all been waiting for! Coal Point Public did win the Wizard of Oz competition and have
been awarded 500 tickets. After discussion with Mrs Skinner (the organiser), we are sharing our win with Minmi
Public School, who will be receiving 100 tickets. Further information on how we will distribute these tickets will come
home shortly. Special thanks to our entire school community for supporting the day and voting so many times for us.
Thanks also to Mrs Skinner for her enthusiasm and organisation with this event.
Kind regards,
Ms Kim Creswell
Principal

In keeping with the sustainability theme of our garden project, last week
we were busy recycling and re-purposing items found in the council
waste collection. Car tyres discarded outside the school grounds have
been cleaned and painted; these will be filled with soil and used to
grow potatoes. And the two round herb beds have a re-purposed
scaffold as a colourful archway trellis. This is to be covered in climbing
plants and we hope the children will enjoy passing through this green
tunnel.
This Friday, March 29th, a representative from a major supermarket will
tour our vegetable garden and make a special announcement during
morning lines. If you are dropping off your children in the morning and
have time to spare; stay to hear the good news!
We're looking forward to the first community working bee on Sunday,
April 7th, from 10am - 3pm. Please come along and lend a hand, even
for an hour! The working bee jobs will include; paving, weeding,
planting, moving sand and soil, spreading mulch and painting. There's
still a call-out for those of you who know how to lay outdoor pavers to
come and help, please. Finally, if you have donations of small flowering
plants, please leave these near the coloured pots.
Thanks from Sarah and Libby (Project Coordinators)

TERM 1 ROSTER
STATE ELECTION FUNDRAISER WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
We wish to say a very big thank you to everyone involved in making the State Election Fundraiser
such a huge success over the weekend! Thank you to the many families, who contributed to the
cake stall, we raised over $600 from the cake stall alone! We appreciate the many parents,
caregivers and student helpers, who donated their time on Saturday to help run the BBQ and cake stall on the day.
We are still tallying the money raised from the BBQ and will let you know in next week’s newsletter.
