Moma “Talk to Me” Exhibit
The object that I found most interesting at the Talk to Me exhibit was a “conversation device” that
records the users conversations with other people and determines common interests between the user
and others. The device was a small ticker-tape machine that wrapped around the users neck (resting on
their shoulders), where the ticker protruded out in front of the users face. Based on previous
conversation topics, the device would come up with new topics, news articles, etc. that would scroll
across the ticker to create a conversation topic that would be interesting to all involved.
In my opinion, this device is completely unnecessary and very strange. If this is what the future holds,
people are going to lose ability to hold a normal conversation with someone. Although there will always
be similar topic of conversation between people, it should not be because a machine strapped to your
neck is telling you what to say.
