Applications

High-pressure coolant is an exceptional tool for performing deep hole operations such as

gun-drilling and boring. Properly applied, high-pressure coolant is as an effective solution

for all chip control problems.

BH-CD for M-Series Turrets

High-Pressure coolant is fed from the Cool Blaster System to the

coolant distributor. A plunger valve engages the back face of

the turret and the coolant receptacle port, coolant is

channeled through a vein located inside the turret and

then up to the bottom of the tool holder. As the

turret is indexed, the plunger valve is forced

outward shutting off the delivery of coolant to

the turret.

Coolant Fed OD Holders

Coolant Fed Features Coolant Fed OD tool holders are engineered to accept coolant from Citizen’s coolant delivery system on the M-Series turret. Supplied by the Cool Blaster High-Pressure System, coolant is delivered through the coolant distributor and up through the face of the active turret station. The tool holder mates with the turret port delivering high-pressure coolant directly to the tool tip regardless of tool position or orientation. This provides optimal tool life and peak chip control performance. Added Features The “adjustable” wedge design reduces tool set up time. Height adjustments are easily made on or off the machine. The adjusting screw eliminates shims by raising and lowering the precision wedge .002” (.05mm) per revolution. The removable locating plate accommodates various “F-dimension” tools and provides a solid locating surface for a more rigid tool setup. BT-VTF1012-500C accommodates .500” Sq. Shank and .500” x F=.625” BT-VTF1012-500CM accommodates 12mm Sq. Shank and 12mm x F=16mm BT-CTF2019-750C accommodates .750” Sq. Shank and .750” x F=1.00” BT-CTF1019-750CM accommodates 20mm Sq. Shank and 20mm x F=25mm Metric locking screws are flush mounted, maximizing strength and minimizing chip interference. Tool blocks are rugged with more support below the tool shank allowing for heavier cutting operations. Rigid yet flexible tubing is provided for high-pressure coolant delivery. The tubing can be cut to the proper length and directed at the tool tip. The high-pressure tubing is rigid and maintains position regardless of the coolant pressure.

Increased Back Work Tool Capacity Greater Flexibility More Complex Part Manufacturing

Using the new BT-BACK-5POS with the BT-GDF705.750-625 end working tool holder provides 10 ID tools. Five front end work and five back working tools. This combination allows for shorter cycle times because many operations can be done simultaneously.

ID Tool Holders - GDF Blocks

The GDF Blocks are designed to be used in idle milling

spindle positions on the vertical tool slide.

While performing ID work with the front vertical slide the

turret or end working slide is free to perform back working

operations at the same time, reducing the cycle time.

The “X” and “Y” offset control in the part program is used for

accurate tool centering and size control adjustments.

Collet Sleeves deliver high-pressure

coolant to the tool.

NPT threads are provided to connect a

high-pressure hose to the back of the

collet sleeve delivering high-pressure

coolant through the tool for cooling and

flushing chips out of the hole.

No More Push Back A milled flat surface provides a positive

location for lock down screws in the tool holder.

This prevents the sleeve from pushing back

under high feed rates.

No Damage to Sleeve OD Lock down screws holding on the sleeve OD

will damage the collet sleeve and cause tool

runout. Our collet sleeves are provided with a

holding flat eliminating these problems.

Collet Chuck Sleeves

Double Ended Collet Sleeves Increase Tool

Capacity, Flexibility and Productivity

Double Ended Collet Chucks are available in

four different lengths. The 3/4” diameter

shank will accommodate an ER11 style collet

at both ends. The smaller nut size allows the

sleeve to be passed through the holder for

ease of installation or removal. This enables

an extended drill length by pushing the sleeve

and nut deeper inside the tool block bore. A

flat is also provided to allow the hold down

screws an area to grip on without distorting

the shank and damaging the holder.

During the thread whirling

process the thread is formed in

a single pass usually from

stock diameter. The maximum

depth of cut is about .09” per

side. When the DOC

exceeds .09” a turning pass

prior to a whirling pass may

be required.

The cutters are mounted on to

the whirling spindle. The

spindle is adjusted to the

helix angle of the thread.

This provides all of the

required side cutter clearance.

The whirling unit includes an

angle adjustment scale.

In the above example the

material rotates to about 70

RPM, while the cutter head

rotates at approximately 4500

RPM. Nine (9) inserts

engaging the part hundreds of

times per rotation of the screw

with minimal cutting force

resulting in superior surface

Bone Screws are complex threaded components usually requiring numerous hours of process development,

setup, debugging and cycle time. Thread Whirling is the most efficient means to produce difficult OD threads

by providing a solution that minimized development to production time, with faster cycles.

The BTW series is also available with a 3

circular insert cutter ring. Using the 3 insert

cutter ring will result in a slower threading

cycle. However this style of insert allows for

multiple re-grinds reducing tooling costs.
