My
Things
I am a person of many interests. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with family. I have a family of 6! Two adults, two children, and two cats. I absolutely love cats! Some other things I enjoy are dancing, skiing, and eating chocolate.

To me, landscape photography is freezing time so you can fully appreciate God’s creations on Earth. I live near many scenic and beautiful locations. I worked on capturing these moments by using a higher f-stop and a tripod. It took a lot of time and practice to work out my settings, and I am still learning. The hardest part about landscape photography was timing.

Macro photography was an adventure for me. I had never used a macro lens before and had to learn to move with the camera. It was a fulfilling and frustrating experience. I found that I had to use a tripod for the best quality. I worked on adjusting my f-stop to focus on more details. I used a variety of light sources to create more visual interest within my photos.
I am excited to continue learning more about macro photography so I can capture those tiny details human eyes tend to look past.

It was in 1862 that the first major gold discovery occurred in Bannack. Currently, Bannack is one of the best-preserved ghost towns in the West. It was exciting to visit Bannack and to walk through all the old buildings. I tried to find new angles within my photos. I used ambient light, speed light, and
a tripod in most of my photos. I wanted to preserve Bannack’s memory within my photos. I used a macro lens to capture tiny details like the ends of a rope. My zoom lens worked well for the handheld pictures.

This was my first time doing portrait photography. I researched information on proper lighting as well as how to position your models. Positioning hands was one of the hardest things for me to do. One thing that helped was looking up photos on the Internet to get ideas. I also used a variety of lighting sources to create shadows and to help smooth out the skin. In post-production, I enhanced the skin and eyes. I also sharpened the photos.
My settings constantly were changing depending on light. One thing I learned was to change the white balance setting to cloudy. I did this in the arm wrestling photo below.

The elegance of type is portrayed through beautiful typography. I love how well-placed typography can create an emotional response. To enhance the visual experience I combined photos with type to depict a series of images relating to the theme, prison.

Kristen Buck is a Web Design major and was introduced to photography in September of 2015. Her focus has primarily been graphic design but is incorporating photography as well now. She is familiar with the Adobe Suite programs and uses them continually in her work.
Macro is one of Kristen’s favorite types of photography because of the incredible details you can capture. She loves taking lifestyle photos, specifically her own family. She is currently a student at Brigham Young University-Idaho where she plans on graduating in the spring of 2016.
