SLONE DIES AT HOME LEWIS GAY RECOVERING Lewis Gay, McKee Merchant who underwent surgery at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville, some three weeks ago, is reported as getting along nicely and will probably be home next week. WAYNE WILES SERIOUSLY STABBED Wayne Wiles, 20 years old of Waneta was taken to Berea College Hospital Friday night in a serious condition after he had been stabbed three times in the chest and abdomen with a hunting knife. HAD NARROW ESCAPE Mr. and Mrs. Wilbus Isaacs and son, Conley, had a narrow escape from death about 12:30 pm Sunday. Mr. Isaacs stated they had been to Lexington to see their daughter who recently underwent surgery, and as they were returning on Clover Bottom just east of the Stone Crusher, some on shot at their car. The bullet hit the right fender about 18 inches from the headlight, hit the hood some inches further and hit the windshield shattering it. Mr. Isaacs said they stopped and got out but could not see any one. It was presumed the shot was fired from the hillside. Had the shot been a little higher, it no doubt would have hit Conley who was driving, they said. MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED Jack Brockman, 18 to Anna Faye Ramsey, 20, Richmond, Ind issued April 22. NEW MOTORCYCLE LICENSE TEST The Kentucky State Police Driver Testing Branch will begin using a new rider skills test for motorcycle operator’s license applicants on May 1. Developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), the new test is designed to better determine if operators possess sufficient safety skills for riding motorcycles in traffic. Updates regarding the new test have been made to the Kentucky Driver’s Manual, which is available online at kentuckystatepolice.org under the Driver Testing Branch link. A video about the new test will be available at YouTube.com in the near future. MSF Director James G. Heideman, Ph.D. and Wayne Steele, of the Kentucky Motorcycle Program at EKU, were instrumental in instituting the new test in Kentucky. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP BEGINS SOON Hospice Care Plus will host a six-session Grief Support Group Series beginning May 2. Each group session is open to the public and there is no charge to attend. The Grief Support Series will take place each Wednesday from May 2 through June 6 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Church in Richmond, located just behind Pizza Hut on the bypass. Nora Brasher, bereavement coordinator at Hospice Care Plus, says the series provides support and education by “sharing stories and learning from others how to cope with the loss of a loved one.” Brashear also says the series offers a safe place to give voice to painful and difficult questions, such as “why me?” Participants, she says, are able to find their own answers to these kinds of questions “amidst the caring support of others who are on a similar journey.” Talking, however, is optional. “Privacy is always respected,” says Brashear. “You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to.” To learn more about the Grief Support Group Series, contact Hospice Care Plus at 859-986-1500, 800-806-5492, or [email protected].
