MARINA BARRAGE

Crest gates - The barrage comprises nine steel crest gates, each 30m long, built across the 350m wide Marina Channel. Besides separating seawater from freshwater, it also acts as a tidal barrier to keep out high tides. The 5m tall steel gates can be lowered during heavy rain so that water from the reservoir can be released into the sea

Drainage pumps - drain excess storm water into the sea when the storm coincides with high tide. Each pump can empty an Olympic-sized swimming pool in one minute!
