Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension, Every year, a missionary group is assigned to our parish and to every parish throughout the country. The purpose of the weekend is twofold. First, the weekend is meant to raise our consciousness about missionaries and their work. Secondly, the missionaries who come ask for our prayers and financial assistance. This particular year, a permanent deacon from the Diocese of Springfield will speak about the Maryknoll Father and Brother Missions and Magazine at all of the masses next weekend. Next weekend, Maryknoll Mission Educator, Deacon Kevin McCarthy, will speak at all the Masses. He will give us an opportunity to take part in the vital work of bringing Christ’s name and Christ’s message to all people. Deacon Kevin has traveled to Maryknoll missions in Venezuela and Nepal, and for many years has led people on mission trips to Mexico and Nicaragua. Those who wish will be invited to sign up for the Maryknoll Magazine, which is available in English or Spanish. While here at Ascension, Deacon Kevin will be happy to speak with any parishioners who are interested in doing overseas mission work as a Maryknoll Priest, Sister, Brother or Lay Missioner. In addition, he will be happy to talk with anyone interested in doing a mission trip or short-term volunteer work in one of Maryknoll’s missions. The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers minister in 23 countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Maryknoll’s task is to share God’s word throughout the world, especially among the poor in places where the Church is unknown or in great need. We look forward to welcoming Deacon Kevin McCarthy next weekend. There will be a second collection next weekend and it will be taken up for the Maryknoll Missions. PASTOR’S LETTER NOTAS DEL PASTOR
Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión, Cada año, un grupo misionero es asignado a nuestra parroquia y a cada parroquia a través del país. El propósito del fin de semana tiene doble sentido. En primer lugar, el fin de semana está supuesto aumentar nuestra consciencia acerca de misioneros y su trabajo. En segundo lugar, los misioneros que vienen piden nuestras oraciones y ayuda financiera. Este año en particular, el próximo fin de semana, un diácono permanente de la Diócesis de Springfield hablará en todas las misas sobre las misiones de los Padres y Hermanos Maryknoll y la revista. El próximo fin de semana, el diácono Kevin McCarthy, un educador de las Misiones Maryknoll, hablará en todas las misas. Él nos dará una oportunidad de tomar parte en el trabajo vital de llevar el nombre de Cristo y el mensaje de Cristo a toda la gente. stitute (ACI)
Calling all youth, ages 10 –
21, interested in being part
of the team at the Ascen-
sion Culinary Institute
(ACI). This is the 10th year
the ACI is accept-
ing applications for the summer/fall program.
If you’re interested in cooking, experiencing new
foods and culture, learning cooking techniques
and having fun while being safe, this is
the summer program for you.
Class starts Tuesday, July 25 and will be held
once every Tuesday from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. In
the fall we will move to Thursdays.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
The RCIA at Ascension is a faith-sharing group accompanying adults
in their preparation for the
reception of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. This process includes interactive
discussions about the different aspects of the Catholic faith. If you are considering becoming a Catholic
or are already baptized and would like to receive the sac-raments of 1st Communion
and/or Confirmation, the RCIA is the right place for you. Sacraments can be received at the Easter Vigil.
RCIA meets every Tuesday night at 7 PM, beginning Sep-tember 12th, 2017 in the Church rectory.
The RCIA also welcomes all Catholics who received the Sacraments, and seek to revive their faith and
share their views of the Catholic Church. For more infor-mation about RCIA, please e-mail the RCIA team

El programa de Iniciacion Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) es un grupo que se reune para compartir la fe
entre los adultos que quieren recibir los sacramentos de iniciacion (Bautizo, Primera Comunion y
Confirmacion). Si estas considerando ser Catolico o ya estas bautizado pero no has recibido los
sacramentos de Primera Comunion o Confirmacion, la RICA es para ti. Este proceso incluye discusiones
interactivas acerca de los diferentes aspectos de las ense-
ñanzas de la Iglesia. Nuestro grupo de

The Ascension Food Pantry, run by the children of the Religious Education Program, thank you for your generous support! Donations are always needed, we are currently in need of rice and pasta. The pantry is
open throughout the summer, distribution is from 10:00am to noon on the third Saturday of each month. Please invite anyone in need.
