T‐206 Final Project Treatment Alex, Katee, Morgan

Treatment Scene 1 JORDAN and ZACH are in Mexico for spring break. They both decide to leave early, changing their airplane itineraries. At the airport, everything goes smoothly, until their connecting flight in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Indianapolis gets canceled. They frantically try to figure out an alternative flight, but everything is booked for the next few days due to spring break. Jordan is freaking out due to the fact that he has an econ midterm three days prior. Zach comes up with the idea to rent a car and have a road trip. Scene 2 They drive out of the rental car lot, hoping for a quick and easy adventure ahead of them. While stopping at the local fast food restaurant, Jordan realizes that they only have $117.35 left for gas and food. Again, Jordan freaks out, but Zach makes sure to keep him as calm as possible. The first few hours of the drive go quickly, but the gas is low and it is time for a fill up. They stop in Stillwater, Oklahoma to grab a bite and get gas. Jordan finally came to accept the road trip in which they were on, positive that he would make his test and study the rest of the way to get a good grade. Zach gets back into the driver’s seat and off they go. Scene 3 A couple hours, Zach is feeling like he’s about to pass out, so they decide to stop for an energy drink. They quickly run, purchase drinks, and leave to continue their adventure. With Jordan studying and now paying full attention, they two do not realize that they have just entered Route 69 instead of continuing their path on Highway 40. Jordan fell asleep in the passenger seat, not paying attention to the difference of their map and what they are actually on. It is not until the next morning, when the sun is out, that they realize they are in middle of nowhere Beatrice, Nebraska. They pull over to the side of their car to figure out what to do next. Jordan immediately jumps out of his seat and paces back and forth outside. He is talking to himself while at the same time Zach and him are yelling at each other for their mistake. Jordan insists that he drive. He pushes Zach out of the way, and vigorously puts his seatbelt on.

Scene 4 Having retraced their path for two hours, Zach and Jordan are finally on their way back. While driving through Missouri, a technical difficulty occurs in their car. There is smoke coming out of the hood, and neither Zach nor Jordan knows anything about cars. They have no idea who to call, and there is few civilization around them. They walk a mile to find an old, beat up, mechanic shop that looked far from reliable. They proceed to call out for help, but there is no response. With only a day and a half left until Jordan’s econ midterm, he slowly begins to give up and sits on the side of the shop to wait. Zach, not giving a shit, takes a seat next to Jordan and the two wait for someone’s arrival. Scene 5 Jordan and Zach end up waiting 3 hours for a mechanic to finally show up. BILLY BOB, the mechanic, appears surprised by the presence of Jordan and Zach, for not many people make it through there. Jordan tells the man his story and begs for his help. Billy Bob ends up being a real nice guy and helps out with their situation. Both boys realize that they do not have the money to pay for such replacement, so they offer a ride to Indiana, and surprisingly Billy Bob takes them up on their offer. Another hour passes, and the three of them continue on their journey back home. Scene 6 It is 8:15 AM and Jordan only has 45 minutes until his midterm begins. Zach drives as fast as possible. They are literally 2 blocks away from campus and get pulled over for speeding. Jordan again freaks out, but instead gets out of the car and begins to sprint towards his class. The cop that pulled them over radio’s another cop to chase after Jordan for his suspicious behavior. As Jordan is running, the second cop pulls over next him, urging Jordan to stop. Jordan quickly explains his problem and begs for the cop’s assistance. Thankfully, it was a good day for that cop, and he decided to give Jordan a ride to his test. It is 8:57 AM and the door to his class room swings open followed by a sweaty, out of breath, Jordan. He made it to his midterm on time, but had to borrow a pencil.

Preliminary Research

• Used mapquest to find how long it would take to drive from Santa Fe to Indiana University: about 20 hours

• Used mapquest so we would be able to state accurate highways and towns that Zach and Jordan would be traveling through.

-Plan on having them stop for gas and food in Stillwater Oklahoma. -Stopping in Joplin Missouri for an energy drink, gets onto route 69 instead of highway 40 -Realize they are going the wrong way once they are in Beatrice Nebraska

• Researched through young actors that fit our ideas of what Zach and Jordan should look like. Finally decided that Jordan should be played by Michael Cera and Zach should be played by Taylor Lautner.

Script

1 INT. Mexico Airport – Day 1

JORDAN and ZACH are in Mexico for spring break. They arrive at the airport, schlepping their baggage across the terminals. They look at the “Departure & Arrival” screen and notice that their flight is 45 minutes delayed. They proceed to their gate and hang out until it is time to board the plane.

2 INT. Santa Fe Airport – Morning 2

With a 2 hour layover, Zach comes up with the idea to head to the nearby mall for food. Jordan does not like the idea, but gets peer pressured to follow Zach.

ZACH

Dude 2 hours, we’ve got plenty of time to kill. Let’s get out of here and go to the mall. Food court’s always have mad good food.

JORDAN

What are you talking about? They basically have the same thing as here. Two hours isn’t that long. We should stay here—make sure we don’t miss our flight.

ZACH

Common, trust me. Plenty of time!

Zach puts his arm around Jordan’s shoulder and leads him to the airport exit.

JORDAN

How are we going to get back in? You ever think about that?

ZACH

Wonder if they’ve got some Mongolian BBQ. Noodles, beef, throw a little broccoli in there, some carrots… I can taste it already.

Zach and Jordan get into cab and head to the mall.

JORDAN

What the hell are you talking about? We don’t have time for the stupid BBQ.

ZACH

Maybe I’ll just stick to a classic. Big Mac fully loaded…

Jordan

Jordan cuts Zach off.

Are you serious? There’s a McDonald’s at the airport! Man, I can’t believe you. If we miss our flight, I’m gonna kill you.

ZACH

Relax, we’ll be fast. We’ve got 2 hours, remember?

JORDAN

More like an hour and a half to get food, cab ride back, security check in, and board the plane.

3 INT. Back in Santa Fe Airport – Day 3

Later, Jordan and Zach head back to Santa Fe Airport. They think that they’re on a good time schedule, but enter the airport only to find the security line miles long. They proceed to beg the people in front of them to let them cut ahead to make their flight. They

succeed with some, and argue with others, but ultimately make their way towards the front of the line.

JORDAN

This is all your fault. We wouldn’t be in this mess if we just stayed in the airport like I said originally.

ZACH

We’re here aren’t we? With ten minutes to spare! We’re golden.

JORDAN

This line needs to hurry up. Excuse me officer, we’re about to miss our flight, is there any way we could cut ahead? We would really appreciate it.

OFFICER 1

Yeah sure, you and all the others. How about we let you all through? Like that idea?

Officer turns away from Jordan.

JORDAN

What a douche bag.

Zach isn’t paying attention to Jordan. Instead he is talking to a couple of girls behind them.

OFFICER 2

ID and ticket please.

Jordan hands officer his papers immediately, while Zach is still slacking and chatting with girls.

JORDAN

Hurry up Zach. We’re finally up.

Zach hands his ticket and id to the officer.

ZACH

I’m coming man, just had to say hello to those sexay ladieess.

Jordan rolls his eyes.

JORDAN

They are like 40. Now hurry up!

ZACH

29 and 31. But nice guess.

Jordan and Zach go through security and look at “Departure and Arrival” screen for gate number.

JORDAN

3 minutes. We gotta run!

Zach and Jordan run through airport, running through obstacles on the way. They finally arrive at their gate and see the jet way pulling away from the plane.

JORDAN

No! Wait! Stop that plane! I need to be on that plane!

DESK LADY

I’m sorry sir. The plane has already left.

JORDAN

I can’t believe this. I’m gonna fail my midterm! I need to get back!

DESK LADY

I can check on other available flights if you’d like?

ZACH

Don’t worry; we’ve got three days ‘til your midterm. We’re cool.

JORDAN

All of our stuff… it’s on the plane… where we should be. It’s because of your stupid idea to leave the airport and get food that was at the airport.

Zach points to girls he was previously talking to.

ZACH

Hold that thought.

Zach walks away to go talk to the girls while Jordan begins to talk to desk lady about alternative flights for a few minutes. Zach walks up to Jordan and interrupts his conversation with the desk lady.

ZACH

I got it. Let’s have a road trip!

JORDAN

Too risky. If something happens with the car, which at this rate I wouldn’t be surprised, then I’m screwed! I don’t think you understand how much shit I’ll be in if I don’t make it to this midterm! I’ll fail econ.

DESK LADY

Excuse me sir. I just looked at other flights, and unfortunately there isn’t much available. Its spring break season… the flights get booked way in advance. I’m sorry…

ZACH

Looks like we’re taking a road trip! Let’s splurge and get a Mustang! Something fast.

JORDAN

You seriously have nothing available within the next three days?

ZACH

Or a corvette, we’ll pick up tons of chicks.

DESK LADY

I’m sorry sir I’m afraid not.

ZACH

Well a mustang will get the job done too and it’s probably cheaper.

JORDAN

Let’s just get a car that will get us there on time, in one piece.

ZACH

Sure, sure.

4 INT. Rental Car – Afternoon 4

Jordan and Zach got a car from the car rental, but were not able to get a Mustang due to cash. Zach is pissed the whole time because he wanted a fast car. Jordan begins to get fed up with Zach’s behavior. Zach still offers to drive so Jordan is able to study.

ZACH

This car is freaking lame.

JORDAN

We don’t have the money. We just need to get back. Get over the car choice.

ZACH

Whatever man.

Zach turns up music and rocks out while driving. Shortly after, Jordan turns down music significantly.

JORDAN

I need to study.

Zach rolls his eyes as they continue driving, with music low. Jordan is studying econ.

5 INT. Rental Car & Gas Station– Late Afternoon 5

It is getting late and almost time for dinner. The two have been driving for a couple hours now and are becoming restless. Jordan decides that it is a good time to take a short break. A couple miles down Jordan spots a gas station and fast food restaurant.

JORDAN

Let’s stop at this gas station real quick. We need gas and we can get Taco Bell for dinner.

ZACH

T-B! Score! Get me three tacos, a strawberry frutista, a crunch-wrap supreme, and..that should do it.

Jordan hands Zach a $50 bill.

JORDAN

Here, that’s the lowest bill I have on me.

Zach fills up tank and pays, while Jordan goes to get Taco Bell and comes back with the food.

JORDAN

I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much money at taco bell in my life. How much was gas?

ZACH

Around $48.

JORDAN

$48?! How was it that much?!

ZACH

Chill out! I got a few snacks for the road, a pack of cigs, and this sweet Stillwater Oklahoma hat.

JORDAN

What the hell Zach! Why do you need that ugly hat!

ZACH

Memories of this road trip man, duh.

JORDAN

Zach, we only have…

Jordan pulls out his wallet and counts all his money.

JORDAN

$117.36 in cash. My debit card has about $10 on it and that’s it.

ZACH

Dude, it’s cool. I can withdrawal money when we find an atm.

JORDAN

Yea, except your ‘lover’ Maria stole it from you when you went skinny dipping with her.

ZACH

Hah! Oh yea…totally worth it though. She was one crazy little Mexican mami.

JORDAN

Get back in the car. We’re leaving. I’m so sick of your shit.

Jordan forcefully hands Taco Bell to Zack.

JORDAN

Take it.

ZACH

It’s cool. $117.36 is plenty of cash. We’ll be fine!

Zach drives off as Jordan begins to look at the map.

JORDAN

I was just looking at the map... We’re doing good on time. I’ll definitely be able to make the midterm.

ZACH

I told you everything would be okay.

Zach swerves off the road a little while eating Taco Bell.

JORDAN

Damnit Zach.

ZACH

My bad. My bad.

Zach and Jordan drive off into sunset.

6 INT. Rental Car & Convenient Store – Night 6

The sun is no longer out and they have been driving for another couple hours. Jordan has fallen asleep in his textbook, while Zach’s eyelids are beginning to get heavy. Zach looks over at Jordan and decides to pull over at the next stop to grab an energy drink. Zack lightly taps on Jordan to wake him up.

ZACH

I’m gonna grab an energy drink. I’m about to pass out.

JORDAN

Yeah that’s fine. Grab me one too.

Zach leaves to get drinks as Jordan lays his head back down and falls back asleep.

ZACH

Alright I’ve got them. We can go now.

Looks over and sees Jordan is sleeping again as he drives off. It’s dark outside and Zach isn’t able to see clearly outside with just his headlights. He accidentally turns onto Route 69 North instead of continuing their path on Highway 40 without realizing it and continues on driving. He tries looking at the map and thinks he is on the right track, and doesn’t realize the map is sideways. Two hours pass and Jordan finally gets up from his nap.

JORDAN

I just had a great sleep. We can switch driving if you want. You should get some rest.

ZACH

Give me another hour or two. I drank yours and my energy drink so I’m good right now.

JORDAN

Alright, well I guess I’m going to study a little more. Let me know when you want to trade spots.

7 INT. & EXT. Rental Car/Side of Road – Early Morning 7

It is finally the next morning and the boys are a day deep in their travel. Zach has been driving the whole time and finally decides to take a break.

ZACH

You cool to switch places?

JORDAN

Yeah sure.

They pull over to the side of the road and get out of the car. They happen to pull over next to a highway sign. Right as Jordan get’s out of the car and looks over at the sign.

JORDAN

Zach! Where the fuck are we?!

ZACH

It says on the sign, 3 miles to Beatrice. Wonder where that is?

JORDAN

Nebraska idiot! We’re in Nebraska! Why the hell are we in Nebraska?!

ZACH

I don’t know what you mean? Nebraska’s on the way isn’t it?

Jordan goes to car to get map and pulls it out. He brings it right up to Zach’s face and points where Nebraska and Indiana are.

JORDAN

Does it look like Nebraska is on the way? What happened to staying on Highway 40 for a good amount? Too challenging for you to read a stupid map?! Now what am I going to do?

Zach tunes Jordan out and looks at map.

ZACH

Yup. I see it. I turned there but I wasn’t supposed to… I should have just gone straight. Do they have hot girls in Nebraska?

JORDAN

Unbelievable!!!

ZACH

Hah, I’m kidding dude! Sort of..but okay what’s the fastest way to get back.

JORDAN

There is no fast way. We’re completely off track. I can’t just figure this out right here. We need to go somewhere and get directions.

Both look around and see nothing in site.

ZACH

And where exactly are we going? Doesn’t look like there’s much around.

JORDAN

Get in the car. I’ll just drive a little until we see something. (Mumbles to self) I

can’t believe this. I’m going to miss my econ midterm and fail the whole glass. Ugh.

8 INT. McDonalds- Morning 8

Jordan pulled off at the next McDonalds to try to get directions for the quickest way back to Indiana. While Jordan is talking to the McDonalds manager the whole time Zach is drooling over the food and hits on a girl to get free pancakes.

ZACH

McDonalds breakfast! Fire! Ahh I can taste those pancakes now.

JORDAN

No time or money.

ZACH

Yea whatever man you know you want some pancakes.

JORDAN

I’m serious Zach. No pancakes. You might as well just wait in the car for me.

Zach looks at Jordan like he’s crazy.

ZACH

what the hell is stuck up your ass, you need to go back to sleep.

Jordan spots McDonalds manager walking around dining area and goes up to talk to him.

JORDAN

Excuse me sir, I’m not from around here could you help me find the quickest way back to highway 40.

McDonalds Manager

Absolutely!

Zach walks towards the front counter as he spots his next victim.

ZACH

Hey sweetheart! How are you today?

Girl at counter looks up and glares at Zach.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

I’m fine what can I get for you?

ZACH

Just fine, what’s wrong? Talk to me.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

I’m fine. What can I get for you?

ZACH

You don’t seem fine. Seriously, I’m here for you.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

My boyfriend just broke up with me last night!

ZACH

Oh honey, I am so sorry. Why would any idiot break up with a beautiful girl like you!!

GIRL EMPLOYEE

I know right?!

ZACH

Don’t cry don’t cry! Plenty of other fish in the sea!

GIRL EMPLOYEE

Yea, it’s so upsetting though. I really loved him.

ZACH

I’m so sorry. He’s an idiot. I’d love to have a chance with a girl like you.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

Really?

ZACH

Of course! Now cheer up! Things will be okay. I gotta get going, my idiot friend needs me.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

Wait, you didn’t want anything?

ZACH

No, I’m starving but our car got broken into last night. My buddy is over there trying to get directions to the police station around here.

GIRL EMPLOYEE

Oh no that’s terrible! Quick, what do you want? My manager isn’t looking!

Zach looks up and sees Jordan and the manager shake hands.

ZACH

I love you! Got any pancakes?

JORDAN

Zach, lets go!!

GIRL EMPLOYEE

Here you go. Thanks for cheering me up! And I hope you guys catch the robber!

ZACH

You’re welcome, thank you beautiful!

Zach runs out to parking lot quickly.

9 INT. Rental Car – Day 9

Finally Jordan has peace and quiet in the car while Zach is passed out against the window. The sun is beaming and it is really hot outside. Jordan changes the air conditioning to full blast, but it doesn’t work very well, so Jordan is left frustrated and sweating while driving in the middle of nowhere. Jordan hears some rustling coming from the hood of his car, followed by smoke. He freaks out and panics not knowing what to do.

JORDAN

Zach! Shit, Get up! I think our car is about to break down. Look at all that smoke! I’m gonna pull over!

ZACH

Slow down, what the hell is going on? (Touches face) Damn my face is on fire right now. Oh shit smoke!

JORDAN

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you! Get out of the car and fix it, I don’t know shit about cars, it’s all on you.

Zach gets out of the car and opens the hood to check it out. A gust of smoke comes out. Zach coughs and tries to clear the smoke.

ZACH

I don’t know what this means! There’s smoke everywhere! I can’t see shit!

JORDAN

Obviously there is smoke everywhere... this car is so shitty.

ZACH

I told you we should have got that Mustang!

Jordan gets out of the car to take a look. He stands there not know what to do. He reaches for his phone to see if he has any service, but being in the middle of nowhere, he has none.

JORDAN

No service. We’re screwed.

ZACH

Well I guess we gotta find some place local.

Both look around to see nothing in site.

ZACH

Alright man, well don’t be too long.

JORDAN

Don’t be too long? Where am I going?

ZACH

To get the car fixed… and I’ll wait here, make sure no one steals the car.

JORDAN

Why the hell would someone steal a broken car?! I’m not walking by myself. Let’s go.

Jordan and Zach walk down the road for six miles before reaching civilization. They are

drenched in sweat and smelly. Zach has been complaining the whole time they’ve been walking.

ZACH

Dude, we’ve been walking foreverrr!

JORDAN

I think I see something.

ZACH

Good. I’m dying. I need a drink.

Zach reaches in his pocket to realize he only has 50 cents.

ZACH

Do you have any change?

JORDAN

Doesn’t look like there is anyone here.

ZACH

My feet hurt so bad.

JORDAN

Are you seriously still bitching? I’m exhausted too, get over it.

Zach and Jordan sit down outside in the shade to wait for someone to show up. Zach keeps touching his face and mumbling to himself about how hot it feels.

ZACH

Is my face red man?

JORDAN

Quit complaining! (looks over at Zach) Oh shit!! Your face is so red, you look like the phantom of the opera!

ZACH

Fuck! I can’t have a weird tan line!

Zach continues to touch his face while looking at his face in the reflection of his phone.

MECHANIC

What are ya’ll boys doing out here? It’s dang hot today. Come on in! We got some air conditioning and some colas if you boys’d like.

ZACH

Yes! Thank you sir!

MECHANIC

What happened to your face? It looks like you been at a tractor pull all day.

JORDAN

Have you been open this whole time?

MECHANIC

Well I left to milk my cows round one but I’ve been here since. You boys been waiting long?

JORDAN

Just a little.

Zach and Jordan go inside with the mechanic to cool off and get a drink. They talk with the mechanic about plans to fix the car.

10 EXT. Side of road in Missouri- afternoon 10

The mechanic, Jordan, and Zach all squeezed in a truck to drive and fix the car. After a short five minute drive they see the car and all get out. The mechanic looks inside the engine and pokes at a couple things before getting in the driver’s seat to try to start the car to find it starts up on the first try.

MECHANIC

So, what’s the problem boys? Why’d you bring me all the way out here for?

JORDAN

You’re joking right.

MECHANIC

I don’t joke. She’s purring like a kitten.

ZACH

Jordan damnit, you made me walk six miles for nothing. If you would have let me stayed I would have tried to start it again once all the smoke cleared.

JORDAN

Alright, you were right. Happy?

ZACH

Yup.

JORDAN

Let’s get going my test is tomorrow morning.

Mechanic walks back to his truck.

MECHANIC

Thanks for the company ya’ll boys. Don’t forget to put rub some lotion on that red face

of yours or else no pretty girl is gonna wanna talk to you.

ZACH

Good man, good man.

11. INT. Rental Car- Night 11

Montague of the rest of their road trip until the next morning.

12. INT. & EXT. Rental car/campus- Morning 12

Jordan and Zach are just about to arrive to Indiana University. Jordan only has twenty minutes until his midterm. Zach speeds on 37 to get him there in time. Right as they see campus ahead a cop flashes his lights to pull them over.

ZACH

JORDAN

What!? We’re getting pulled over?!

ZACH

Shh she’s coming. Don’t worry I got this.

FEMALE OFFICER

Excuse me sir do you know how fast you were going?

ZACH

Fast enough to make my heart pound.

FEMALE OFFICER

License and registration please.

Zach looks into her eyes while grabbing for his license and registration.

ZACH

The sun compliments your eyes very well.

Female officer takes his license and registration and walks back to her car.

JORDAN

I can’t believe this is happening. We are so close. I’m not letting this officer keep me from being on time to my midterm. Fuck this.

Jordan jumps out of the car and begins running. Female officer sees Jordan running and assumes the worst therefore she calls for another cop to chase him down. While walking back to Zach another cop car speeds by to get Jordan who is running down the street.

MALE OFFICER

(over his megaphone) Please stop running sir and pull over to the side walk.

JORDAN

(out of breath) I’m sorry…please…my midterm…I’m going to be late.

MALE OFFICER

Take a deep breath. What did you say?

JORDAN

I have an econ midterm that will make or break my grade in six minutes. I will do anything sir please don’t get me in trouble just let me get to my midterm.

MALE OFFICER

Where is it located? Hop in.

Male officer drops Jordan off at his midterm two minutes before the test. Jordan gives a quick act of gratitude before sprinting to the door. He gets to his midterm sweaty, clothes dirty, but on time…without a pencil.

JORDAN

Oh shit, can anyone spot me a pencil?

Zach’s Costume

Red ‘Indiana’ T-Shirt. Loose fitting, but not huge on him. Hangs over the top of his jeans a little.

Jordan is tall and skinny. His skin color is not pale but not extremely tan. Just a nice tan showing he just left Mexico for spring break.

Tight, but not skin tight, jeans. Like shown in the picture above, they aren’t loose and baggy like some boys wear. They fit just right and come over his shoes a little bit.

Shoes are just basic plain white Nike Dunks. Jeans come down and cover some of the shoe.

Zach is slightly shorter than Jordan. He is very buff and you can see his muscles clearly. He is also extremely
