Tuesday: Survivor Series – Kiwi Cash, Kai and Climate

Kiwi Currency. In New Zealand the currency used are dollars and cents.

1. How many cents are in one (1) dollar? 2. How many cents are in $2.50? 3. Sir Edmund Hillary, who was a famous Kiwi explorer and was the first person to climb the highest mountain in the world, is on the $5 note. How many cents are in $5? 4. If Matthew went to the shop and spent $20. How many $10 notes would he need?

Kiwi Kai. Kai is food in New Zealand language. Kiwis love to eat fish’n’chips! 5. Abbie buys three (3) pieces of fish for $2 each and one serve of chips for $2. How much will her meal cost her?

6. Abbie buys hokey pokey ice cream for herself and her two brothers from the dairy for dessert. The shop keeper asks her for $7.50. 7. How much does each ice cream cost? 8. How much change would Abbie get from $10? 9. Kumara is a sweet potato. James has two (2) bags of kumara with ten (10) kumara in each bag. How many kumara does James have? 10. Kiwifruit is also called a Chinese gooseberry! Liam has four (4) kiwifruit and shares them with one friend. How many kiwifruit would Liam get?

Kiwi Climate. The climate in New Zealand is warm in the summer and cold in the winter. 11. Does the temperature get hotter or colder the further north you travel in New Zealand? 12. If the temperature in Rotorua is twenty four degrees Celsius (24ºC) and the temperature in Christchurch is twenty degrees Celsius (20ºC). How much colder is it in Christchurch? 13. Thursday: Survivor Series – The South Island.

South Island. The Maori name is Te Wai Pounamu.

The centre of New Zealand is in Nelson. 1. Does this mean Nelson is at the top of New Zealand, bottom of New Zealand or in the middle of New Zealand? Kaikoura is a town on the east coast that is famous for whale watching. 2. Twelve (12) whales and nine (9) Hector dolphins swim around a boat. If half (½) of the whales swim away. How many whales would be left? 3. If a whale swims 10km every day for three (3) days. How far would the whale have swum? 4.` Five (5) more dolphins join the group. How many dolphins are there? Hagley Park in Christchurch is a very large public park. 5. Karl goes for a thirty (30) minute walk around the park. If he leaves the house at 3:00pm what time would he get home?

Friday: Survivor Series – New Zealand and the World

New Zealand and the World

New Zealand is the first country in the world to see the sunrise. 1. If the sun begins to rise at 6am in New Zealand and China is five hours behind New Zealand. What time would it be in China? 2. When Kiwi goes to sleep at 7am, Tui wakes up and starts to sing. If Tui sings till 10am, how long does Tui sing for?

When ringing New Zealand from other countries in the world you must use the dialling code 64 at the start of the phone number. 3. Add these numbers together, what does it equal? 4. What other numbers add to ten? 5. What number comes after sixty four (64)?

The Australian flag is very similar to the New Zealand flag, except that it has five (5) stars which all have seven (7) points and one (1) star that has five (5) points. 8. How many stars are on the Australian flag? The Pacific Ocean that surrounds New Zealand is the biggest and deepest ocean in the world. 9. Finn catches seven (7) snapper but is allowed to catch ten (10). How many more snapper can Finn catch? 10. Finn and Warren catch nine (9) snapper each. How many snapper do they catch together?
