1 SCOPE

At the request of ACA Marine, a special topcoat survey was carried out on M/Y Sirona III. The topside hull and superstructure were subject to topcoat analysis according to the international standard ISO-DIS-11347.

Purpose of the survey was to assess and verify if the final cosmetically result of the paint work was in accordance with the ICOMIA technical guideline, minimum acceptable finish and appearance for super yachts gloss coatings, edition 1, March 2011.

2 STATUS The refit paintwork was completed. The topside hull of M/Y Sirona III was recoated with Awlgrip Topcoat GH Mystic Blue and the superstructure was recoated with Awlgrip Topcoat GH Snow White.

5 SURVEY CONDITIONS

The survey was carried out during cloudy weather conditions at ITM Marseille, France. The vessel was positioned in dry-dock and a tent was covering the entire vessel.

The external surfaces of the superstructure were covered with paper and plastic for protection purposes. Holes were made for measurements only. The appearance of the topcoat had been examined earlier by Shaun Pyne who then reported the results.

Survey dates were the 22nd

and 23rd

of March 2011.

6 COSMETIC PARAMETERS In accordance with the ICOMIA technical guideline edition 1, 23 March 2011, specified as follows:

6.1 Orange peel and DOI

6.2 The average values of Wa to We shall not exceed 35.

95% of all values shall be within ranges of +/-15 units from the average.

Based on measurements with Gonio photometer equipment the minimum average DOI acceptable value is 92 for HVA and for LVA.

6.3 Gloss

Horizontal surfaces: 95% of values to be above 87 Gu.

Vertical surfaces: 95% of values to be above 89 Gu.

7 INSPECTION METHODS

7.1 ORANGE PEEL and DOI Waviness of the topcoat was measured according to the method as described in the ISO/DIS 11347 Annex C, which reads:

Measurements taken are 3 point counted average measurements within a maximum of 10 cm from each other. First an individual measurement was taken horizontally, the second and third diagonally under an edge of respectively 60 and 120 degrees. The average of the three individual point measurements comprises the final measurement value.

Waviness measurements were carried out with 60o angle wave scans: BYK Gardner wave-

scan 4800.

DOI measurements were carried out with a Statistical Novo-Gloss I.Q. Goniophotometer of Rhopoint Instruments Ltd.

Distinctness of image is derived from three values, very fine structures smaller than 0,1 mm are measured with a CCD camera (dullness) and short waves Wa and Wb.

7.2 GLOSS MEASUREMENTS The gloss of the topcoat was measured according to the method as described in the ISO/DIS 11347 Annex A, which reads:

Measurements taken are 3 point counted average measurements within a maximum of 10 cm from each other. The first individual measurement was taken horizontally, the second and third diagonally under an edge of respectively 60 and 120 degree. The average of the three individual point measurements makes up the final value.

Gloss measurements were carried out with a Statistical Novo-Gloss I.Q of Rhopoint Instruments Ltd. All measurements were performed at an angle of 60 degrees.

8 OBSERVATIONS Visual assessment of the accessible areas made the following clear:

The overall appearance of the hull and superstructure deckhouses is very good.

Good paint flow has meant uniform orange peel texture resulting in a full deep wet gloss appearance.

Fine overspray and patches with dry spray were present in several LVA areas

which had a visible effect on the quality of reflection.

Dust inclusions were minimal with less than five particles per square decimetre.

Reflection of images is very good and gloss appears uniform across the surfaces.

No significant runs or sags are present. For specific findings and/or remarks see our reports 1039 01 to 1039 09.

10 CONCLUSIONS Visual appearance Excellent paint flow had meant minimal orange peel texture, in turn resulting in a full deep wet gloss appearance. This result could also be distilled from the readings; values were within a close range with hardly any significant deviation. DOI The DOI measurements are within the ICOMIA guideline for minimum

quality level. Orange peel The Long and Short wave measurements did not exceed the limit of 35 and more than 95% of the long wave readings are within the stipulated range of +/-15 units from average. The short wave readings are 0,3% below the limit, but it has to be considered that even two of the three readings which were above the +15 range were even within the maximum value of 35. The percentage was achieved due to the very low overall average of wave scan readings.

The graph shows two fixed green and two variable yellow bars. The green bars depict the maximum acceptable values of 35 in terms of long and short wave. The yellow bars represent the averages of the measurements. Therefore, whenever the yellow bar is shorter than a green bar, the measured values are within the limitations and the measured area has less orange peel.

The graph shows three fixed red and three variable green bars. The red bars depict the minimum acceptable values in terms of gloss (85 and 89 GU respectively for horizontal and vertical surfaces) and DOI (92).The green bars represent the averages of the measurements. Therefore, whenever the green bar is larger than a red bar, the measured values exceed the minimal requirements and the measured area has adequate gloss and/or DOI. 11.2 Superstructure LVA
