WHAT IS SUPREMATISM?Suprematism is one of the earliest and most

radical developments in abstract art. It started on 1913 and ended in about the late 1920s. Suprematist art was believed to be superior to all art of the past in terms of pure feeling or perception in pictorial arts by the person who invented it, thus the name. It was invented by a Russian artist named Kazimir Malevich. Suprematism was focused on basic geometric forms such as circles, lines, squares and rectangles, painted with a small range of colors.

CONCEPT• The suprematists wanted to search for the “zero

degree” of painting. A point in which the medium could not go with it still being art. This made them use very simple styles and shapes.

• They believed that there were only delicate links between words or signs and the objects they denote, from this he saw a possibility for an abstract art.

• Russian Formalists were against this idea. They believed that words weren’t so easily denoted.
