NO BUSINESS AS USUAL Ongoing programme by SOS Netherlands, SOS Ghana in partnership with Asokore MampungMunicipality in Kumasi, Ghana.
Stimulate youth-employment and inclusive socio-economic growth through joint stakeholder collaboration.
Focused on marginalised youth and ersons with disability (Alpha Group), eager to work youth with little or no skills (Beta Group), and unemployed graduates (Gamma group).
NBU hub is the nerve centre of the programme:
► All trainings, events, workshops and meetings under the project are hosted at the hub.
► Co-working space at the hub provides a space for youth who have start-up ideas to incubate their businesses, build a firm network and plan for growth
NO BUSINESS AS USUALTrainings: 75 youth equipped with life skills, over 427 youth trained in entrepreneurship and employability and 140 youth received business support from the hub.
Start-ups: Over 170 youth had entrepreneurship training incubated at the NBU hub resulting into business start-ups
Gender: Events aimed at women empowerment and gender mainstreaming organised at the NBU hub where women professionals from diverse backgrounds come in as facilitators to empower and equip the female youth with their success stories and experience.
CSO Coalition: better advocacy for transparency and accountability. Community engagement in local governance processes risen due to an improved dissemination of information from the local government. Periodic meetings with municipality and events in hub for larger public to engage with municipality directly.
NO BUSINESS AS USUAL Co-working space offers resources for young businesses, a place to share ideas and create networks and showcase their products and services to the guests that frequent the hub.
Behaviour change: improvement in their attitude and approach to life than their peers -> different perspective on life, newfound focus and direction on their future careers and better understanding of their capabilities and potentials.
Outlook: Opportunity to build themselves locally whether in employment or entrepreneurship without resorting in migration.
BOOSTING BOTTOM-UP SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION (BOOST)
It aims to enable grassroots social entrepreneurs to create the positive change they envision for their communities in Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia (will be replicated in other African and Latin American countries).
High unemployment, reduced freedom of expression and lack of financing opportunities prevent young people – particularly women and marginalized groups in remote areas – from developing their full potential.
We work through local partner organizations and collaborative spaces mainly in medium-sized towns. Boost supports young local social entrepreneurs who create employment for other young people. Local partners offer technical assistance, plus funding from Hivos to start or scale these enterprises. Our Main strategies are:
Digital media campaigns to solve challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in the region. Support program for co-working & collaborative spaces to help them become Business Development Support Orgs Accelerator program trajectory for start-ups and SMEs with high potential for job creation. Capacity building and knowledge enhancement program for angel investors.

BOOSTING BOTTOM-UP SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION (BOOST)We have created 5000 jobs in 4 years with 4 million euros investment from SIDA, Dutch
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Young women are changing their minds and starting their entreprises. Family days and day-care services have been key for them to over come social and cultural barriers (movility, conservative contexts, etc.). Local ownership has been key to include women.
We have started by need to continue developing future-proof jobs in tech, digital, media, green, and sustainable energy fields so youth employability programs lead young people to break gender roles, and co-design solutions to current problems (climate change).
Hubs are evolving to become entrepreneurial jobs spaces. Local actors are moving from “beneficiaries” to partners.
We have proven that youth and very local driven programs do work.
