Superintendent’s Message Daily school attendance is always important; it is of critical importance during Ohio

Count Week. This week, October 7-11, daily attendance is recorded and reported to

the state. The state uses the numbers multiple times each year to determine our

school district’s funding. The district stands to lose about $1000 per day, per student

for each unexcused absence. During Count Week, if the absence is unavoidable and

excused, please notify your child’s school the day of the absence and send in a

written excuse when the student returns to school.

This is an ideal week to strive for perfect attendance.

Congratulations THS Academic Quiz Team

The Tippecanoe High School Academic Quiz Team competed at the University of Charleston, West Virginia and finished 7th out of 22 teams with a 6-3 record. The team is already off to a great start this year making the playoffs in their first two tournaments . WHY IS PRINCIPAL BROWNLEE DUCT TAPED TO THE WALL?

(and he is smiling!)

Nevin Coppock Principal Rick Brownlee spent his lunch hour duct taped to the wall. Students earned a strip of

duct tape for each Entertainment Book sold in a recent fundraiser. More than 4-hundred pieces of tape were

applied to Mr. Brownlee. Unfortunately, it wasn’t strong enough to keep him in place for long. Quick News will

have more photos next week.

It was an EPIC L.T. (Learning Together) Career Day at LT Ball Intermediate School. More than 40 professionals

provided hands-on and interactive sessions pertaining to their careers. Students had the opportunity to spend 40

minutes exploring six different professions, trades, or hobbies.

In the top left photo, MVCTC student Abigail Belcher helps Kaitlyn Husic “draw blood” from a practice arm. In

the middle photo, a child is blindfolded to help simulate the job of an air traffic controller who is “standing” in the

tower while giving directions to the aircraft. The blindfolded student must listen closely to arrive safely at the

landing strip. In the photo on the right, students learn carpentry and are told they can build anything.

LOCKDOWN DRILL

In October, each school in the Tipp City School District will conduct a lockdown drill as required by Ohio law.

The specific date for each building’s drill will not be announced to you or the children in advance. Protocol

during the drill includes locking and barricading the classroom doors, turning off lights, and closing blinds. In

this lockdown drill, rather than hide, teachers will prompt age-appropriate discussions with students about the

importance of emergency drills and what makes for a safe routine.

These drills are essential to better prepare our students and empower our staff to respond in an emergency.

Filtering the harshness of realities of our world does not protect our students in the event of a true emergency.

Remember too that a lockdown may be necessary because of an outside threat such as a fugitive on the loose.

The drill is part of the ongoing district-wide emergency preparedness plan to ensure the safety of our students and

staff during such an occurrence. Future drills will include evacuations and/or exiting the building with a specific

“crisis.” During an actual emergency, the district will notify you of the situation AFTER calling the local police,

getting all children and personnel to safety, and assessing the situation

News from THS Guidance Office

College Visits Here are upcoming college visits at Tipp High School. These are great

opportunities for juniors and seniors to talk with a college admission’s

representative and learn more about collegiate experiences and admission

expectations.

College Application Open Lab Assistance is available for students completing college applications. The guidance office will hold an open lab

for students to ask questions and get step-by-step directions.

Stay Informed Parents and students can click on a link on the guidance webpage under Parent/Student Email Update to provide

the guidance office with an email address. It will allow the guidance office to send important announcements and

deadlines. This is especially good for seniors applying for college and scholarships.

VARSITY FOOTBALL HOME VS. STEBBINS THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!!!! Your 6-0 varsity football team will play in City Park Friday night at 7:30 as they take on the 3-3 Stebbins Indians. Adult and Student Tickets will be available via presale this week. Student tickets are $4.00 in advance. Adult tickets are $6.00 in advance. All tickets at the gate will be $6.00. Please remember that Tippecanoe gets to keep 100% of all presale ticket revenue for this game. Tickets will be available Hock’s Pharmacy Tuesday through 5:00 PM on Friday. Tickets can also be purchased during school hours in the Middle School Office and the High School Athletic Office. Elementary buildings will sell tickets through the office on Friday only. Elementary students should bring their money in an envelope marked on the outside of the envelope with the teacher’s name, number of student tickets, and number of adult tickets. Please include money in the envelope.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS-The next Athletic Booster meeting is October 8th beginning at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are open to all community members and held at THS is the cafeteria.

THS Baseball Team to Host Buckeyes Flag Football The high school baseball team is securing sponsors for its Buckeyes Flag Football fundraiser to be held on

November 9th. See how well the Buckeyes do at flag football against a local team! If you would like to support

the baseball program with this fundraiser, please call Coach Bruce Cahill at 667-8454. All sponsors

receive 10 tickets to the game, reserved seating, and space in the program.
