Thames Tideway Tunnel (TTT) is aproject led by Thames Water tobuild a new sewer under the RiverThames. It will run undergroundfrom Acton storm tanks in WestLondon, and travel 25km (15 miles)roughly following the line of theriver to Abbey Mills PumpingStation in East London.The scheme will cause majordisruption to residents and hasalready added considerable costs toThames Water customers' bills.Greg Hands MP has long opposedthe project coming to CarnwathRoad, and has fought alongsidehundreds of residents to preventthe Tunnel from being dug inFulham.However, in September this yearThe Planning Inspectoratepublished its recommendationsthat the project go ahead, includingthe digging of part of the tunnelfrom Carnwath Road, here inFulham.It will take seven years to build andthe main construction programmeis now expected to start in 2016.

WHAT IS THE THAMESTIDEWAY TUNNEL AKA ‘SUPER SEWER’?

The Carnwath Road Riverside site is composed ofWhiffin Wharf, Hurlingham Wharf, Carnwath RoadIndustrial Estate,an area of the River Thamesforeshore, and a small highways works site.Work will comprise construction of a shaftapproximately 42 metres deep with an internaldiameter of approximately 25 metres. This shaft willbe built predominately within Whiffin Wharf. Whilemost operational structures will be underground, aventilation column and other structures will bepermanent above ground features.Construction is assumed to start in 2016 and to becompleted by 2022.

WHAT IS CARNWATH ROAD RIVERSIDE?

Construction is programmed to take approximatelysix years (2016 – 2021) and would involve thefollowing main activities:► Site preparation (approximately 8 months)► Shaft construction (approximately 14 months)► Tunnelling (approximately 22 months)► Secondary lining (approximately 7 months)► Construction of other structures

(approximately 12 months)► Completion of works and site restoration (approximately

13 months)
