Walking the landfor a great cause
Jimmy Harrington is walking around Australia and arrives in Darwin tomorrow.
JIMMY Harrington is a regular20-year-old guy.
Born in Adelaide, he grew upwanting to be a policeman, then ateacher, then a zoo keeper.
But a chance meeting with ayoung girl called Emily Crookchanged all that. Emily wasbattling brain cancer and herpositive attitude touched Jimmyin a profound way.
When Emily lost her battle in2011, Jimmy was determined tomake a difference.
So in May this year he set offon a walk around Australia withthe aim of raising $300,000 forthe Brainchild Foundation, acharity that helps childrenaffected by brain and spinalcord tumours.
‘‘Sitting back and watchingwhat happened to Emily happento others was not an option forme,’’ said Jimmy.
He will walk 18,000km aroundthe country and arrive in Darwintomorrow, marking the halfwaypoint of his journey.
There will be a fundraiser atthe Darwin Bowling and SocialClub on Conacher St, FannieBay, this Saturday, from 5.30pm.Tickets $20 to bowl, or go alongfor a sausage and donate.
