    ELKHART Milton T. Montan-don Jr., 62, of Elkhart, passedaway on Thursday, May 17, 2012,

    at 11:55 a.m. atthe GreenleafHealth Cam-pus in Elkhartafter a brief ill-ness.

    He was borni n E l k h a r to n F e b . 2 5 ,1950, to thelate Milton T.and Margue-rite (Landon)

    Montandon Sr. On March 5, 1969,he married Susan M. Porter, whopreceded him in death on Nov.16, 2011, in Elkhart. A son, Steven,precedes him as well.

    Surviving are his son, Andrew S.Montandon of Goshen; his fian-ce, Nancy A. Kline of Elkhart; andhis sisters, Sherrie (Jerry) Conleyof Marianna, Fla., Vicki (Larry)

    Barrett of Elkhart and Ellen ( Tom)Csakany and Rebecca (Patrick)Doyle, both of Cassopolis, Mich.

    A celebration of Milts life willbegin with a visitation on Mon-day, May 21, 2012, from 4 to 8p.m. followed by a funeral onTuesday, May 22, 2012, at 10 a.m.with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.

    ll services will take place at Bill-ings Funeral Home of Elkhart.Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate.Burial will follow the services onWednesday at Rice Cemetery inElkhart with Military GravesideHonors being rendered by theU.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard

    and Elkhart DAV Post 19. A LoyalOrder of the Moose ceremony willtake place Monday at 7 p.m.

    Milton worked in a variety ofpositions with the Elkhart CountySheriffs Department in a careerspanning 34 years. He began asa jail officer in 1978 and went onserve as sergeant of the PatrolDivision and a bomb technicianfor many years to follow. Afterhis retirement as a merit patrolofficer in 2002, he continued hisservice to the county as a civilprocess server. He was also a re-serve officer for the Elkhart PoliceDepartment in the early 70s andserved in the U.S. Army in Viet-nam as a demolitions expert withthe First Infantry Division. Hewas a lifetime member of ElkhartMoose Lodge 599 and belonged toElkhart VFW Post 88.

    Memorial donations maybe given to Mooseheart or theUnited Cancer Services of ElkhartCounty. Online condolences mayreach the family at the funeralhomes website.

    WES TWOOD, N.J . JoshuaShawn Lampen, 29, of Westwood,and formerly of Otsego, Mich.,and Cromwell, Ind., passed awayunexpectedly as the result of anautomobile accident on May 15,2012.

    He was born on Sept. 7, 1982 inSouth Bend, Ind.

    He is survived by his parents,

    Darwin and Linda Lampen ofOtsego, Mich., formerly of Nap-panee, Ind.; and Jan Smith ofCromwell, Ind.; and a grand-mother, Colleen Kreager of Li-gonier, Ind. He was preceded indeath by one brother, Colby Krea-ger.

    A celebration of life service withPastor Kevin Smith will be held onSunday, May 20, 2012, at 2 p.m.at Friendship Wesleyan Church,1285 102nd Ave., Plainwell, Mich.49080. A visitation will be heldfrom 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the ser-vice.

    A visitation will also be held on

    Monday, May 21, 2012, from 2 to 9p.m. at the Ligonier United Meth-odist Church.

    A farewell service will be heldon Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 11a.m. at Ligonier United MethodistChurch with Pastor Byron Kaiserofficiating. Burial will take placeat Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

    GOSHEN Thelma E. Mish-ler, 87, Goshen, died at 3:45 p.m.Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Green-croft Healthcare.

    She was born July 24, 1924, inSt. Joseph County to William andElsie (Tyson) Goetz. She marriedWalter Mishler on June 20, 1959,and he died Feb. 2, 2011.

    Surviving are a sister, Phyllis

    Kehr of Goshen; and a grand-daughter, Elizabeth Mahlerof Colorado. Preceding her indeath are her husband; daugh-ter Tammy Robison; son WesleyMishler; and brother Virgil Goetz.

    Thelma was a registered nurseand worked at Goshen GeneralHospital. She was a 1942 graduateof Goshen High School, attendedGoshen College for one year forpre-nursing courses, graduatedin 1952 from LaJunta NursingSchool and was a member of theYellow Creek Mennonite Church.

    Visitation will be from 3 to 7p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at

    the meetinghouse at Greencroft,Goshen. The service will be 10a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, atYellow Creek Mennonite Church,with one hour of visitation priorto the service. Pastors Wes Bon-treger and Katie Cunninghamwill officiate. Burial will follow atYellow Creek Cemetery.

    UNION, Mich. Linda L. Har-rington, 54, of Union, passedaway Thursday, May 17, 2012, atthe Atlanta Medical Center, At-lanta.

    She was born June 30, 1957, inElkhart, Ind. to Louis and Patricia(Hayden) Woodford and mar-ried Steven C. Harrington. She issurvived by her husband, Steve;

    and three sons, Edward (Nicole)Harrington of West Bend, Wis.,and Louis Harrington and NicHarrington, both of Union; and asister, Nancy Woodford of Elkhart.She was preceded in death by herparents.

    Harrington was employed byElkhart General Hospital in foodservice and enjoyed arts andcrafts and Long Lake, where shespent most of her life.

    Visitati on will be from 5 to 8p.m. Tuesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cob-blestone Crossing, Elkhart. A pri-vate family memorial service will

    EDWARDSBURG, Mich. Gary Lee Gardner, 61, of Edwards-burg, passed to his rest Oct. 15,2011, at his home.

    He was born Oct. 23, 1949, inElkhart, Ind., the son of the lateOttis and Lamoine (Mechling)Gardner. His father was Edwards-burg postmaster, and his motherwas a teacher in EdwardsburgSchools.

    Gary graduated from Ed-wardsburg High school and hadtwo years of college. He was inthe Army from 1969 to 1975 as amedic. He later became a cementfinisher, having worked for John

    Wright Construction of Union aswell as several other companies.He was a member of Local 692Cement Masons and Plasterers.He was considered one of the bestin his trade and was a perfection-ist at his work. Gary loved Legoblocks, and his hobby was to puttogether very complicated Legoprojects. One whole room of hishouse was dedicated to just Legocreations.

    He traveled to many countrieswith his parents. One of the fam-ily enjoyments was to walk theMackinaw Bridge every MemorialDay weekend. One year, he even

    pushed his Grandma Mechling inher wheelchair the length of thebridge.

    A memorial service will be May24, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the PaulE. Mayhew Funeral Home, Ed-wardsburg, where friends maygather for one hour before ser-vice time. Officiating will be Pas-tor Brent Danielson of LaGrangeMissionary Church. After a brieflunch break, friends and familywill gather at Kessington Cem-etary on May 24, 2012, at 1:30 p.m.for the graveside military honorsby the U.S. Army Honor Guardplaying taps and folding the flag.

    ening land.Forecasters say tropicalstorm Alberto was centeredabout 140 miles east of Charles-ton, S.C., in the afternoon.

    No coastal watches or warn-ings were in effect, but forecast-ers say they may issue one later.The Miami-based NationalHurricane Center says therewere no hazards affecting landso far, and the tropical-strengthwinds werent reaching shore.Some strengthening was pos-sible.

    It was moving about 3 mph tothe southwest.

    National Weather Servicemeteorologist Sandy LaCortein Wilmington said the systemwill continue its movement tothe southwest before reversingcourse and heading northeastover the next several days.
