Pastor Lia’s Message
Put on the Full Armor of God today!
The Full Armor of God, described by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-18, is our spiritual defense against attacks by Satan. The Full Armor of God may not be visible, but it is real, and when used properly and worn daily, it provides solid protection against the Enemy's attacks. The good news is that none of these six pieces of the Full Armor of God require power on our part. Jesus Christ has already won our victory through his sacrificial death on the cross. We only have to put on daily the effective armor he has given us.
The Belt of Truth is the first element of the Full Armor of God. In the ancient world, a soldier's belt not only kept his armor in place, but it might be wide enough, as a girdle, to protect his kidneys and other vital organs. Just so, the truth protects us. We can see through Satan's lies by holding them against the truth of the Bible. The Bible helps us defeat the lies of materialism, immorality, love of money and power as the most important things in life. Therefore, the truth of God's Word shines its light of integrity into our lives and holds together all of our spiritual defenses in the name of Jesus Next we'll strap on the Breastplate of Righteousness. The Breastplate of Righteousness guards our heart. A wound to the chest can be fatal. That's why ancient soldiers wore a breastplate covering their heart and lungs. Our heart is susceptible to the wickedness of this world, but our protection is the Breastplate of Righteousness that comes from Jesus Christ. When Jesus died on the cross, his righteousness was imparted to all who believe in him, through justification. Remember that Christ-given righteousness can keep your heart strong and pure for God. Next we’ll put on our feet the Gospel of Peace. The Gospel of Peace is symbolized by protective footwear. Satan scatters traps for us in our path as we are walking, trying to spread the gospel. The Gospel of Peace is our protection, reminding us that it is by grace that souls are saved, as we find in John 3:16. Next we’ll take up the Shield of Faith. No defensive armor was as important as a shield. It fended off arrows, spears, and swords. Our Shield of Faith guards us against Satan's deadliest weapons, doubt and fear. Satan shoots doubt and fear at us when we feel lonely or disappointed. But our strong faith in God comes from the truth of the Bible. We know that we can count on Jesus, our savior. We need to keep our shield held high, confident in the knowledge that God provides, God protects, and God is faithful to his children. Next we'll put on the Helmet of Salvation. The Helmet of Salvation protects the head, where all thought and knowledge reside. The truth of salvation through Christ sets us free. We are free from the meaningless temptations of this world, and free from the condemnation of sin. The Helmet of Salvation protects our thoughts and minds. It is a crucial piece of armor. Next, wielding the Sword of the Spirit. The Sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon in the Full Armor of God with which we can strike against Satan. This weapon represents the Word of God, the Bible. When Jesus Christ was tempted in the desert by Satan, he countered with the truth of Scripture, setting an example for us. Satan's tactics have not changed, so the Sword of the Spirit, the Bible, is still our best defense. Commit the Word of God to your memory and to your heart. Finally, we claim the awesome power of Prayer. Paul adds the Power of Prayer to the Full Armor of God in Ephesians 6:18. Every smart soldier knows they must keep the line of communication open to their Commander. God has orders for us, through his Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Satan hates it when we pray. He knows prayer strengthens us and keeps us alert to his deception. With the Full Armor of God and the gift of Prayer, we can be ready for whatever the Enemy throws at us and claim victory in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Blessings, Pastor Lia Willetts

FELLOWSHIP TIME ~
Our church services continue through the summer and so does the church fellowship & social time that we all enjoy. There is a sign up sheet on the counter in the sanctuary lobby for the Sunday morning service. There are openings through November. You can serve for 1 week to 1 month. Ask those serving the snacks or doing beverages for information on what is required to serve in this area.
Our NURSERY IS GROWING ~
Another staff member has been added to help in the nursery Wednesday and
Saturday evenings. We extend a warm welcome and thank you to Gloria Sanborn.
We have more families with young children coming Sunday mornings that our
Sunday nursery attendant needs helpers. Please talk to Terry Panega, in the nursery,
to pick a Sunday when you can help.
Parents ~ Please remember to pick up your little ones after church before stopping by
the hospitality table for treats, drinks and socializing. The nursery staff would love to
come out and socialize with everyone and enjoy a few treats as well.
IMMOKALEE SOUP KITCHEN – A group meets at the church at 9:30 am on the third Thursday of each month to serve the Lord by serving up meals to the migrant farm workers and the homeless in Immokalee. The sign up sheet is in the lobby of the sanctuary or call the church office. The carpool leaves the church office parking lot at 9:45 am. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting stained with food. We need a person or couple to be the coordinator(s) for this activity. The coordinators are the contact for the church with the soup kitchen and know who is going each month. Please contact Larry and Marlyn Hockert at 830-456-6812 for more information.

Enjoy the Convenience of Electronic Giving
Christ United Methodist Church wants to remind you that we offer
electronic giving as a way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers convenience for individual congregation members and provides much-needed donation consistency for our congregation.
Direct Debit Giving is used to automatically transfer funds from your checking or savings account to the church’s bank account.
Credit & Debit Card Giving allows you to make offerings automatically on a pre-determined schedule using a credit or debit card.
Online Giving allows you to go to www.christumclehigh.org at any time to set up an automatic donation plan, change your donation plan, make a one-time donation or view your online donation history.
The General Council on Finance and Administration, working in partnership with Vanco Payment Solutions has developed and improved the convenient mobile-device app that will allow members and visitors to make donations to the church while they are at church or if they are away. The newly branded “Joyfully2UMC" has a scriptural reference, 2 Corinthians 9:7, and serves as a reminder that the app is another option to give cheerfully to the church of choice. The app is now available as a free download for Android™ and iOS™ mobile devices.
A less frequently discussed benefit of electronic giving is its positive impact on the environment. An enormous amount of natural resources are consumed in the production, transportation, processing and disposal of paper checks. That’s why paying bills electronically always ranks high on any list of actions an individual can take to improve the environment. The trend toward electronic payments has already produced more than a 50% decline in check use since the year 2000.
As you consider the payment method you use to make your regular offering, we hope that you will think about the unique connection between financial stewardship and environmental stewardship.
As you contemplate future contributions, please consider electronic giving. Authorization forms and additional information are available from the church office.
Your Money Counts
Who Is Your Real Boss?
Society says: Work as little as possible because labor is distasteful; or work as much as possible because your job is all important.
Scripture says: Work as unto the Lord with excellence as your standard. Work hard, but do not overwork.
Prayerfully evaluate your attitudes toward work and your job performance in light of what scripture teaches. Ask yourself:
1. Would I work more conscientiously if Jesus were my boss?
2. Would I think more highly of a president of an oil company than a gas station attendant?
3. How is my relationship with my employer, employees and fellow workers?
4. Am I trying to do too much?
5. Am I performing my job at a level of excellence?
6. Am I lazy? Do I work hard?
God gives job skills (Exodus 36:1-2), gives success (Genesis 39:2-3), and controls promotions (Psalm 75:6-7).
Our part is to work hard (Ecclesiastes 9:10) but don't overwork (Matthew 6:33), and “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” Colossians 3:23.

More from Cub Scouts Pack 11…
The Pack is now on vacation for the summer.
On June 13, 2015 Pack 11 held the Raingutter Regatta and
a Pack picnic, which was enjoyed by all who attended.
On Monday, July 20 at 7pm we will hold our next
committee meeting. The pack will have a special guest
speaker, Karen Harty, who is a Master Gardener. She will
discuss adding a vegetable garden for the pack to take
care of and earn some gardening badges as they learn
about gardening.
Den Leader Crystal Snowden needs some help with the
garden, especially taking care of the garden when the
scouts are away. Please call her at 239-878-1354 or by
e-mail at [email protected] if you enjoy
gardening and would like to help out.

A gift card for shoes is purchased for every $10 donated to the sneakers project.
These cards are given out during Lehigh Acres

sneakers for each $10 received.
We have raised $1567 towards our goal of $3000!

Imagine No Malaria - “Watching a small child die from malaria
is a horrific experience. First comes the headache, tiredness,
weakness in the joints and general malaise, followed by a very
high fever. Then the fever’s effect on the brain causes the
child’s muscles to jerk, just before the end.” ~Tom Gillem,
Interpreter Jul/Aug 2009.
Our church, along with all United Methodist Churches, has the
opportunity to change this image and help eliminate deaths
from malaria. Through Imagine No Malaria, we can save
thousands of lives.
Don’t forget to wear your sneakers to church
during the sneaker campaign!
How Can I Help The Church?
ONLINE SHOPPING – go to UMCmarket.org and sign up for free. Our church is called Lehigh Acres Christ. Every store at UMCmarket is happy to pay a percentage of
the purchased amount as a donation to our church. There is no additional cost or charge for either the church or shopper. The stores send UMCmarket their
contributions within 30-90 days. Once our church reaches $100 in total donations, we receive a check in the mail.
RECYCLE
Newspaper – bring your paper to the large dumpster behind the sanctuary (near the choir room and playground). We receive a check that averages $75
each time we call them to pick up a full container. Paper only – no plastic bags, paper bags, cardboard, magazines, catalogs or telephone books - JUST PAPER. The
more paper recycled, the less trees that need to be cut down to make paper.
Ink cartridges– bring in any make or manufacturer. We have several different companies that provide store credit at office supply stores or cash.
Cell phones – we only need the phone. Do not bring in the chargers, cases, etc. The phone needs to be in working order for us to receive payment.
Otherwise, these companies dispose of the phone following current guidelines.
VOLUNTEER
You can pick a particular project to do on a regular basis or help a committee or group in the church.
Here are a few ideas:
sorting ink cartridges to send to companies that pay cash or give store credit
preparing cell phones for shipment
sort the books donated to the church library and put them on the correct shelf
Flower Ministry – take the altar flowers donated by the giver, divide the bouquet into smaller ones to take to our shut-ins
assist in the church office by answering phone calls, greeting visitors, typing, working on projects, filing
take food collected on the fourth Sundays to the Lehigh Acres Community Services food pantry
wash and mend the acolyte robes they wear on Communion Sundays
help the Cub Scouts make and maintain a vegetable garden behind the Cub Scout House
Be a teacher or helper for an adult, high school, middle school or elementary class. Teachers and helpers needed Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 pm starting September 9
th. We use the FaithWeaver curriculum so you don’t have to develop your own lessons. Teachers and helpers needed for Children’s Church on
Sunday mornings. The best way to learn your Bible is by teaching it to others.
Join the Hospitality Team. They make the beverages and serve refreshments at one of our church services, assist with potluck luncheons and special events.
Maintain bulletin boards. Change the decorations and information on the various boards throughout the church and office building. We have supplies but we need people with time and creativity for this ongoing project.
Youth Group Fundraisers. We always need additional adult help and supervision as these young people learn by doing. Help is needed at their food concessions for the rummage sales, craft fair and Chamber Business Expo.
Youth Group Activity
Immokalee Soup Kitchen
Thursday, July 16 meet at the church office by 9:30 am
to help at the Immokalee Soup Kitchen.
This counts towards community service hours for high school graduation.
Food Pantry Changes
The Oasis Community Food Pantry has moved to portable buildings next to Harvest International Ministries. Oasis has not been picking up our donated food or monetary donations in a timely manner.
We have an organization in Lehigh designed to help our residents, Lehigh Acres Community Services.
The Finance Committee decided at their June meeting to change our support for a food pantry from Oasis Food Pantry to Lehigh Acres Community Services.
Please continue to make your tax deductible monetary donations out to the church “CUMC” and note it is for the ”food pantry”.
We will continue to collect non-perishable food on the fourth Sunday of each month.
All designated money and food donated will be given to Lehigh Acres Community Services each month.
Congratulations to Tiffania Willetts,
daughter of the Reverends Lia and Tom Willetts
She has been chosen as a delegate to the 2016 Jurisdictional Conference.
HANDBELL CHOIR
We have the bells, we have a coordinator and we have some
interested people in restarting our bell choir. Please talk to
