Lesson: Running Away SWCOCADA Hang On Each week our announcements and prayer list are filled with people who are facing difficulties in life. We are surrounded by loss, illness and other challenges. I hope you will be encouraged by this article from Scott Franks, Preaching Minister at the Burnt Hickory Church of Christ. It is a great reminder to trust in God and His love for us. - Brian Has God asked something of you that seems unfair? Overwhelming? Impossible? Youre not the first to think so. I imagine Noah felt the same. Imagine processing this message from God: Im going to wipe all life off the face of the earth. You are a farmer, but spend the next hundred years building a massive ship while enduring the questions and ridicule of your neighbors. Two of every kind of bird and livestock and wild animal will miraculously show up here and you will have to keep them alive. Everything will start over with you. Eight people are all that will survive. Everyone else – men, women, children, your other relatives – everyone else you have ever known, and every place you have called home will be obliterated, gone forever. What questions would that raise for you? What would you struggle with when you learned this is how God works? What would your attitude towards God be under the drumming of 40 days and nights of relentless rain? Its worth considering because God may come to you with a burden or task or challenge that will be entirely unexpected, and may seem overwhelming and unfair. Youll have a lot of questions. I cant give you all the answers to why you or why now or what God is doing. But what I can tell you, based on the example of Noah, is that the one right choice you can consistently make is to be faithful, to trust that God will equip you with what you need. Noah did everything just as God commanded him.Genesis 6:22 (NIV) We wont always understand Gods ways, but when you feel overwhelmed, when what he is putting you through feels so unfair, stay faithful; do everything just as the Lord commanded. Dont compromise the truth in scripture. Dont, in your loneliness or stress, ignore what God clearly says in scripture with the excuse God wants me to be happy.No, hang on, stay faithful, continue to obey, because one day, just like when Noah and his family finally stumbled out of the musty ark into the dazzling sunshine of day, one day you will emerge from the darkness and pressure of whatever trial you are enduring. God will see you through. God loves you, and what he has waiting for you, if you just stay faithful, will prove that he knows best. For those of you still in the storm, still under the stress, still struggling with what God has asked you to do, here is my prayer for you: Ephesians 3:14-21 (NIV) For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lords holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Each week our announcements and prayer list are filled with people who are facing difficulties in life. We are surrounded by loss, illness and other challenges. I hope you will be encouraged by this article from Scott Franks, Preaching Minister at the Burnt Hickory Church of Christ. It is a great reminder to trust in God and His love for us. - Brian Has God asked something of you that seems unfair? Overwhelming? Impossible? You’re not the first to think so. I imagine Noah felt the same. Imagine processing this message from God:

I’m going to wipe all life off the face of the earth. You are a farmer, but spend the next hundred years building a massive ship while enduring the

questions and ridicule of your neighbors. Two of every kind of bird and livestock and wild animal will miraculously show up here and you

will have to keep them alive. Everything will start over with you. Eight people are all that will survive. Everyone else – men,

women, children, your other relatives – everyone else you have ever known, and every place you have called home will be obliterated, gone forever.

What questions would that raise for you? What would you struggle with when you learned this is how God works? What would your attitude towards God be under the drumming of 40 days and nights of relentless rain? It’s worth considering because God may come to you with a burden or task or challenge that will be entirely unexpected, and may seem overwhelming and unfair. You’ll have a lot of questions. Alan Johnson was admitted into Mercy Hospital Ada on Monday for tests. He is now home recovering. Please keep him and Kerrie in your prayers.

Marissa Wilson, daughter of Morris and Jeanne McGehee, had surgery Monday at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. The family would appreciate your prayers.

Connie McKinney and Donna Giles went forward Sunday asking for prayers.

Our sympathy goes to Tina Vercelli and her family on the passing of her husband, Jim Vercelli. He passed away Thursday morning. Jim and Tina are former longtime members of Southwest. His services are pending at this time. Please keep their family in your prayers.

Congratulations to Todd and Megan Martin on the birth of their baby girl, Kallaway Mae Martin. She was born Thursday, July 25th, 2019. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19 inches long. Kallaway joins her big sisters, Kollyns and Tennyson and her big brother, Jennings. Proud grandparents are Don and Janna Byrd and proud great-grandmother is Jessie Glover.

Randy Wilson was moved to Ballard Nursing Center last week.

Ladies Prayer Group will meet Sunday, August 4th and August 18th at 4 pm.

Golden Doers Luncheon will be Sunday, August 11th following the morning services in the fellowship building. If you are 60 or older please come join us.

All ladies are invited to a baby shower for Jessica Marble on Sunday, August 18th at 3:30 pm in the fellowship building. She is registered at Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

The Yellow House will give food away on Monday, August 26th from 8 am to 10 am. Helpers for August are: Ken and Wanda Roper, Gayle Johns, Kristen Neill, Bill and Jan Young, Raymond Johnson, and Janell Streeter.

God’s Girls- There is a sign up sheet in the foyer for you to volunteer to help with God’s Girls. We appreciate your help!

COLLEGE NEWS:

The college group is on their annual Broken Bow Float Trip with Southeastern this weekend. They will be back sometime today.

Sign-up sheets for the college meals will be in the foyer starting Sunday, August 4th. Please look for them so you can sign up!

Southwest Family, Our family wishes to thank you for your prayers, cards, calls visits, hugs, Haiti donations, the beautiful plant and those who were able to come to Joe’s memorial service. The love and support you gave my family and me made this difficult time easier to bare. Thank You.
