Summer Reading Reflection You will need a copy of your Summer Reading book or a book that you read recently. You will have the entire block to work on this assignment. Turn in whatever you have at the end of class. Slide 2 August 29, 2014 - Summer Reading Reflection Ob jective I will identify the major story elements found in my Summer Reading novel and will support each with textual evidence. Warm Up H omework H ave a great LONG weekend! :) Take out your Language Arts binder, copy the date into the upper right hand corner and the objective onto the first line. Slide 3 For today's class, you will need to have your Summer Reading book with you in class. We will be working on an in- class reflection paper which will ask you questions about the main character, plot and theme of your book. You will need to pull text so be sure to have your book with you! Slide 4 Define the following in your notes conflict - climax - theme - Slide 5 Conflict - the struggle or problem which progresses the action in a story Climax - the turning point in a story, what all the events have been leading up to Theme - the author's universal message / lesson to the reader Slide 6 1. Put the title of your book and the author. 2. Who is the main character? List 3 adjectives to describe this character and support each one with evidence from the book. Give an example of something that the main character did that you liked and another example of something that the main character did that you didn't like. Explain each example. 3. Describe the main conflict or problem that drives the novel and explain how it is resolved at the end of the story. 4. What was the climax of the story? List 3 events that led to the climax. 5. How did your book end? What might be another option to the ending? *If you didn't get to the ending, write DID NOT FINISH BOOK * 6. Share a theme found in this book.
