Summer Reading Grade 6 For Summer Reading this year, you will have to read one book. After you read the book, you will have a choice in completing an assignment. There will be two options to choose from. You must choose one. Follow the steps below to help you complete your Summer Reading Assignment. Step 1: Choose a book from the suggested reading list for Grade 6. If you have another book that you would like to read, you need to email Ms. Teeling or Ms. Weber in order to get approval to read the book. Once we approve of your choice, you will then be allowed to read the book. Step 2: Choose one of the two assignments listed below to complete.  For Summer Reading this year, you will have to read one

book. After you read the book, you will have a choice in completing an assignment. There will be two options to

choose from. You must choose one. Follow the steps below to help you complete your Summer Reading Assignment.

Google Classroom Discussion Forum

● For this assignment, you will be required to make posts and reply to peer posts using the

comment feature in Google Classroom (CLASS CODE: obv39gg). ● For Grade 6, you are required to make 2 posts (1 post must be

original) and 2 replies. ● An original post means that you not only answer a question about

your book, but you also pose a new question that would illicit replies from your peers based upon your post.

● Your due dates for posts/replies are as follows: ■ Post 1: July 15 ■ Reply 1: July 22 ■ Post 2: August 12 ■ Reply 2: August 19

● Attached are questions that may be assigned by a teacher to help you make a post.

● Since you are also required to make one original post, you can do so by answering any of these questions. To end your original post, you would need to include a new follow up question to the learning community to finalize your original post.

● Your posts must illustrate thinking that reveals plot and character development throughout the beginning, middle, and end of your book.

● Your posts/replies are not to be a summary of your book. ● You will be graded based upon the attached rubric.

Book Talk at the Community Center

● For this assignment, you will be required to attend one book talk at the Community Center.

● The dates of the talks are as follows: ■ Talk 1: July 11, 2019 at 10am ■ Talk 2: August 15, 2019 at 10am

● Prior to attending a book talk session, you must have finished reading your book.

● Prior to attending a book talk session, you must have five questions answered from the attached discussion questions.

● Questions will be collected at the end of the discussion. ● You must choose five questions to answer to illustrate the full

reading of your book (beginning, middle, and end). ● You are not to provide a summary of your book. ● You will use these questions and answers to contribute to the book

talk. ● You will not only contribute information about your book, but as

you listen to others share, you will be prompted to make connections among your book and the various books being discussed during your discussion session.

● You will be graded based upon the attached rubric.
