Usually a prerequisite is a course from a lower sequence of courses. For example, you may not enroll in Math 142 (Elementary Statistics with Probability) without first passing Math 120 (Intermediate Algebra or equivalent) with a “C” grade or better. Usually, a co-requisite course is a lab or a course that provides supplemental instruction.

To see which courses have prerequisites and/or co-requisites see the individual course offerings in the catalog.

To register for a course with a prerequisiteIf you have completed the prerequisite course with a “C” grade or higher, at DVC fall 1999 or later, you will have the prerequi-site automatically cleared upon registration. If the prerequisite course was completed at DVC, CCC or LMC prior to fall 1999, contact the Admissions and Records Office for assistance.

If the prerequisite course was completed at another educational institution, the Admissions and Records Office must clear the requirement prior to registering.

All prerequisite equivalency forms must have the appropriate documentation attached.

Online registrationThere are a two ways to do this:1. submit an unofficial or official transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form to the Admissions and Records Office; OR2. fax an unofficial transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form.

You will be notified of the results in two to three business days. If approved, you may register on or after your registration appointment time.

Registration for a co-requisite/ prerequisite courseSome courses allow you to take the required course either as a co-requisite (concurrently) or as a prerequisite (previ-ously). With Math 195, for example, the required course, Math 193, may be taken either as a prerequisite or a co-requisite. Depending on how you are satisfying the requirement, you may need to register in-person at the Admissions and Records Office on or after your registration time.

Enrollment fee defermentsIf subsequent to paying enrollment fees, you become eligible for an enrollment fee deferment to an outside agency, submit the deferment to the Cashier’s Office. You will automatically be mailed a refund check of the deferred fees according to the same refund processing cycle as enrollment fee refunds.

Details regarding the refund policy are available from the Cashier’s Office or the Admissions and Records Office.

Student Activity Fee The $5 Student Activity Fee is voluntary. Refund forms are available online at: www.dvc.edu/SAFrefund, at the Pleasant Hill Campus in the Cashier’s Office, Student Life Office and Welcome/Information Center. At the San Ramon Campus, the forms are available in the Admissions and Records Office. Refund forms must be submitted in person or by U.S. mail to the DVC Cashier’s Office ONLY (DVC Cashier, 321 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523). Request for refund forms must be received within the first two weeks of instruction for a full semester class, or before 10 percent of the class time for a short-term class. Refund checks will be issued monthly after the first two weeks of instruction each semester (fall and spring only).

Non-refundable feesThe $8 ASDVC discount sticker fee is not refundable. This refund policy complies with and is based upon California law and the Education Code.

PrerequisitesEnrolling in DVC courses with prerequisites or co-requisitesIf you are enrolling in a course with a prerequisite, you must complete that prerequisite with a “C” grade or better before you are allowed to register. A course has a prerequisite to ensure that you have the appropriate body of knowledge to be successful. Courses with a co-requisite require that you either have taken the co-requisite course prior or take the co-requisite course at the same time.

Please note: dropping a class with a co-requisite will result in a drop from both classes.

Effective Fall 2014 the state will begin mandating enrollment priorities as follows:

• Veterans, Foster Youth, DSS, EOPS and CalWORKs students will receive the first priority.

• Continuing students will receive a registration priority appointment.

• New students who have completed assessment, orientation and an educational plan will receive a priority registration appointment.

• All categories of students with priority registration status will lose their registration priority if they exceed 100 units or have two consecutive semesters on probation. ARCHIVED

Orientation: COUNS-095 classes designed for new students planning to enroll in summer class

COUNS-095 Orientation to College - (P/NP) - .3 Unit

Take your assessment test at least four business days before orientation so that the counselor teaching your Counseling 095 class can review your scores and recommend the correct courses. Students should bring an unofficial copy of their high school transcripts (if applicable) as well as their assessment score print-outs to the Counseling 095 class meeting. Students should also review the DVC online catalog and class schedule before coming to class. Saturday classes include a lunch break.
