Summer CAMP 2016 General Information W elcome to Summer! The 2016 Boys & Girls Club of Carbon County’s summer camps and programs are geared up to be some of the best yet! Many of our most successful summer camps, programs and instructors are back by popular demand and we’ve been working hard to organize exciting new opportunities for our Club Kids. Please review the below information and camp descriptions carefully before registering. Be sure to also check out our website, www.bgcofcarboncounty.org and like us on Facebook – you’ll find up to date information about all things Club in both locations. We look forward to seeing you at the Club and to another great summer! About Camps U All camps are weather dependent and campers should come appropriately dressed and prepared for their camps. Each child should bring a water bottle and wear close toed shoes. Other items to consider sending with your child include sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses & a change of clothing. Specialized equipment and supplies will be provided unless otherwise noted. U If a camp is unable to run on its scheduled date(s) due to weather, we will do our best to reschedule it. If we have to cancel a camp, a refund will be issued (see below). Registration U Registration for summer camps opens on Monday, May 2nd and will close on Friday, May 27th. General Information

Welcome to Summer! The 2016 Boys & Girls Club of Carbon County’s summer camps and programs are geared up to be some of the best yet! Many of our most successful summer camps, programs and instructors are back by popular demand and we’ve been working

hard to organize exciting new opportunities for our Club Kids. Please review the below information and camp descriptions carefully before registering. About Camps U All camps are weather dependent and campers should come

appropriately dressed and prepared for their camps. Each child should bring a water bottle and wear close toed shoes. Transportation U All camps begin and end at the Club in Red Lodge. Transportation

U Transportation to and from Roberts will be offered every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the exception of Monday, July 4th when the Club will be closed.

Robotics CampProgram and engineer your own robot using Lego kit systems under the guidance of local educator Marty Clague.

Choreography CampLearn the steps to pro-duce an energizing musi-cal ensemble of rhythm & moves in this excit-ing choreography camp with Sam Thomas. This camp is a total of six days, spread over two separate weeks. Note: Please only sign up if you commit to attending the full camp. Campers from the first session are invited to attend the second session as helpers, free of charge.

Police Officer and K9 Handler, Maleri Cates, will lead this important and fun course in safe-ty and age appropriate defense strategies as well as demonstrations with her K9 partner.

Zoo MontanaBring out your wild side and join us for a field trip to Zoo Montana! We’ll sing songs on the bus, complete an animal scavenger hunt and enjoy lunch at the zoo. Fun for all ages!

Chopped Cooking CampYour child will learn cooking basics, harvest produce from The Youth Garden to cook with, and tour local restaurant kitchens and grocery stores during this excit-

ing cooking camp. The last day of the camp, campers will get to show off their new skills in a “Chopped” like cooking competition! Ages: 8 - 12 Cost: $10Dates: June 20 - 22 Time: 12:30 pm - 4 pm

Aro u n d Tow n ! Art + NatureNature can be a won-derful inspiration for the inner artist. Join Travis and Sam and explore our own amazing backyard through an artistic lens while hiking around town and looking closely at what we might miss every day.

Junior Keeper CampJoin the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary’s nat-uralist staff where we will introduce Junior Keepers to what it means to work at a Wildlife Sanctuary. Campers will grow an appreciation on native wildlife and wildlife husbandry while they go behind the scenes and inside the enclosures of our very own YWS residents.

Emergency First ResponseTrain with the Red Lodge EMT’s to learn what it takes to become a cer-tified First Responder. This structured, two-hour course will cover CPR and the essentials of be-ing a First Responder. This is an ideal camp for any youth who babysits, hikes, bikes, is home alone or for any youth that wants to know how to respond in the event of an emergency.

Horseback RidingJump in the saddles and ride into the Beartooth Mountains with Hope Ranch in Luther. Enjoy breathtaking views and

Astronomy CampGet your nerd on and ex-plore the amazing world of astronomy with educa-tor Kirk Nell during this exciting two-day camp. You’ll learn about the solar system, build your own model lunar space station and even do some star gazing one evening. A wonderful opportunity that’s not to be missed!Note: There will be a special star gazing opportunity using telescopes from 9 pm to 10 pm on the 24th.

Family Backpacking Adventure!Join the Beartooth Mountain Guides for an exciting overnight backpacking trip up the Lake Fork of Rock Creek. Designed specifi-cally for parents and children to do together, you’ll learn basic wilderness skills like Leave No Trace, food preparation, food storage and map and compass use as well as some natural

history education. Meals, tents, cooking equipment and guides are included in cost. Participants must provide personal sleep-ing bag/pad, clothing, flashlight, backpack and

footwear. With rates for similar trips nor-mally starting around $200 per person, per day, this overnight trip isn’t just a unique opportunity, but an amazing deal as well! Note: At least one parent must accompany their child or children on this overnight trip.

Artrageous at Tippet Rise! Willows WorkshopPatrick Dougherty cre-ated an intricate and site specify sculpture at Tip-pet Rise that that seeks to embody the fundamental connection between art and nature. Students will learn the process of using natural materials, such as willows and branches to create their own sculptures, such as those created by Patrick Dougherty. Workshop will take place at the sculpture site of, Daydreams.

Basketball ClinicDribble, Pass, Shoot! Join instructor Jed Brock and his assistants for this fun basketball clinic where you’ll improve your ball-handling and dribbling skills, work on footwork, lay-ups and shooting as well as pass-ing and defense skills.

Wet’n’WildPut on your swimsuit and get ready ‘cause this camp is all about getting wet! Campers will play at the pool, splish-spash

through local creeks, have a little water bal-loon fun and do some ‘super soaking’ while they’re at it!

Artrageous at Tippet Rise! Paints & Earth Casting WorkshopThe Ensamble Studio, inspired partly by the unusual and fascinating rock formation of the Beartooth Palisades, cre-ated concrete structures casted directly on the ground, taking a print of the land and lifted to position. Artwork made from earth ma-terial, such as the Spiral Jetty in SLC, works viscerally interacting with nature. Students will learn about the process of the Ensamble Studio’s grand stone sculptures and will caste their own, smaller-scale sculptures in the earth with quik-set. This unique workshop will take place at the sculpture site of one of the three stone sculptures.

Camp Wild!Join naturalist and educator Tim Stephen-son of the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary in scratching the surface of the mystical world around us in this unique 5-day camp where you’ll channel your inner wilderness! We’ll explore our extraordinary backyard like never before as we look for signs and tracks of our

Birds of a FeatherBirds are an amazing way to engage children in na-ture - to inspire them go outside, observe their environment, connect to their habitat, and understand the impor-tance of where they live. Over the course of the day, we will learn about identifying birds, participate in citizen-science projects, spend time outside, and conduct real science investigations. niques, you will work as a team to solve the mystery presented to you and find the culprit. Explore an exciting world of DNA, finger prints, code, observation and trace evidence during this unique camp. Bring your sleuthing skills and thinking camps – it’s time to get to work cracking the case!
