Summer at the Beach
It was a steaming hot day. The temperature gauge on the car had just reached 40 degrees Celsius. I grabbed my towel, beach bag and surfboard. I thought to myself I couldn’t wait to dive into the icy cold water. I jumped out of the car and ran for the sand. Argh! The sand was boiling hot! I hopped across the sand like a frog on a lily pad. There were hundreds of people on the beach. We set up our blue and yellow umbrella between the red and yellow flags. The lifesaver said to me “I hope you’ve put on some sunscreen.” I grabbed my surfboard and headed for the waves.
The waves looked as big as skyscrapers! I duck-dived under the wave and saw something beautiful. A green sea turtle had decided to make an appearance, like a movie star walking down the red carpet. Everyone pointed, as they couldn’t believe the size of the turtle. I paddled a little closer and saw a plastic bag was wrapped around its leg. I could see that the turtle was getting tired, so I decided to tear the plastic bag off its back leg. It broke free, took a deep breath, and dived below the surface. I was so lucky to be able to help such an amazing animal. I can’t wait to get home to tell my grandmother.

MathematicsLearning Intention: We are learning to draw different views of an object constructed from connecting cubes on isometric grid paper.
Success Criteria: I can:
● Use Isometric paper to draw 3D objects
● Draw 3D objects from different views
● Identify different views of objects constructed from connecting cubes
3D ObjectsIsometric dot paper Square dot paper
The isometric dot paper enables you to draw the
object so the edge appears closer.
The square dot paper enables you to draw the
object from a more front-on view, where the face appears closer to you.
Notice how the dots on the isometric paper form a different pattern to the straight row of dots on the
square dot paper.
Here is a triangular prism. If you view the prism
directly from the top, you will see the outline of the rectangular bottom face. The front view shows the shape of the triangular
base. The side view shows the shape of the
rectangular side face.
Look at the drawing on isometric dot paper of an
object made from connecting cubes. The drawings on grid paper beside it show how the object would look from
different views.
Count the number of cubes in each model.
