WHY THE Y DAY CAMP YMCA Adventure Camp offers a wide range of engaging summer day camp options that
accommodate all families. You’ll find programs that meet your child’s interests &
abilities. Children can enroll in just a few weeks of camp or spend the entire summer
with us!
New experiences, skill-building, a sense of community and lasting friendships are all an integral part of YMCA
Summer Adventure Camp. Weekly themed activities allow campers to create arts & crafts, explore science &
technology, swim, go on field trips, appreciate nature, and better understand our many cultures. Campers will
build their self-confidence, appreciate teamwork & sportsmanship, all while gaining independence as they
nurture their spirits, challenge their minds, and strengthen their bodies. Kids will explore diverse interests and
have a lot of fun along the way.
The Y works to help youth discover their full potential by providing opportunities to learn, grow and thrive
amidst caring, supportive adults. These experiences are grounded in a set of objectives that characterize all of
the YMCA Summer Adventure Camp Programs. Through the Y’s adventure camp program, kids participate in
fun & educational activities that help them with:
Relationships: We facilitate relationships with and among youth, creating a space for them to make new
friends and interact with supportive staff role models.
Achievement: We provide thoughtful program activities to help gain knowledge, develop new skills, build
confidence and discover themselves.
Belonging: We provide a safe & inclusive environment so that every youth feels welcome and finds a place to
belong.
YMCA Core Values: Learn how to incorporate the values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring into
everyday activities.
YOUR CHILD IS IN GOOD HANDS Our staff aren’t just counselors, they’re mentors and most importantly role models! We take pride in the
quality & commitment of staff, who are mostly teachers and college students. All staff participate in a
comprehensive training program to prepare them to care for your child, plus they are certified in First Aid &
CPR. Counselors at the YMCA are caring, energetic, responsible people dedicated to making sure each camper
has an amazing summer Adventure camp experience.
FUN YMCA campers stretch themselves physically and creatively. Kids play games, read and create writing journals.
They participate in science experiments, solve puzzles, craft art, and preform music.
ACTIVITES Day Camp with the Y provides children entering 1st grade—6th grade with supervised activities that teach
core values, conflict resolution, leadership skills, social responsibility, and more. Campers have fun while they
develop friendships, better their health, enhance literacy, develop skills, gain independence, and appreciate
teamwork.
WHAT IS THE Y DOING TO PRIORITIZE HEALTH AND SAFETY
FOR MY CHILD AT CAMP? We hope you and your family are well and safe. These are extraordinary times that have moved us all to a new normal, and we know camp will look different this year.
Like you, we are continuing to monitor developments regarding the COVID-19 outbreak closely. As we approach the summer, we want to update you on our decision-making process and safety protocols moving forward.
Establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy camp experience remains our top priority. Unlike other years, we are presented with a different reality in the wake of public health recommendations and government mandates in our states and across our country. Since this epidemic began, we have been working to answer these two critical questions: Can we safely and effectively deliver our summer programs in the new reality of COVID-19? And, if able, what does it look like at Camp this summer?
To guide us in answering these questions, we have been collaborating with experts around the country. In addition to the many steps we take every day to protect the health of our guests, campers, and staff, we are incorporating recommendations from local, state, and national agencies. We are also continuing to work closely with the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department and other YMCA’s across the country.
Following state mandates, guidelines, and recommendations from the CDC and SWNPHD, our team is continuing to explore all challenges, options, protocols, and health practices that factor into our ability to deliver summer programs safely.
While we are working on exact logistics, we do know that we will be implementing new procedures that include increased cleaning protocols, increased handwashing procedures, new training for camp staff, modified group sizes with social distancing in mind, and more. Your child’s safety is our number one priority and we will continue to adjust to the guideline and protocols set forth by the CDC and other authoritative organizations.
We will be keeping parents updated on key decisions regarding changes to our
programming and safety protocols. We will be adjusting protocols as required per CDC
and Health department guidelines, so we ask in advance for your patience as processes
change accordingly.
