Dear Kohut Family,

We hope this newsletter finds you safe, healthy, and enjoying the summer in spite of the world situation at the moment. A lot has happened since our last Kronikle! Sadly, as you probably know by now, due to safety concerns and the restrictions of the worldwide pandemic, we have had to postpone Kamp until summer 2021. It’s been heartwarming to receive all the lovely calls and letters of support from around the country, the world and decades of “konnections.” The Kohut legacy lives on!

We had a great time “visiting” with many members of our Kamp family at various zoom gatherings recently. Kamp News!! Here are just a few updates on what the Kohut Family is up to this summer!

Former camper Griffin Cascarino is at school in Denver and is also working at a bike shop there. He became a manager despite only working part time (because of his full time college courses). One of the new employees Griffin recently trained looked incredibly familiar! It turns out his co-worker, Bob Hoffman, is a former Kohut counselor from Summer 2012. They immediately bonded over their time at Kamp. It just goes to show Kamp is always part of you for your whole life.

Emmie S has been using her incredible painting and drawing talents for the benefit of others. This summer she has painted many drawings for people in hospice care as a way to give back. Emmie hopes to have a dedicated home studio soon, too. Way to go, Emmie!

Gigi R has had a great summer spending time with her grandparents and visiting her cousins, Coco and Audrey R, in Texas. One of her favorite memories from her time in Texas was laying on hammocks each evening as the sun set. Gigi’s brother Luca is also having a terrific summer and is very busy with all things soccer (we are not surprised at all!).

Niko P is loving Kamp Kohut’s Secret Word videos each week. He’s currently in NYC, but enjoyed spending a bit of time in the fresh air of the Hamptons this summer.

Former camper June Fergus has had a great time in North Carolina taking part in the Adventure Trek program. The trip was originally planned to take place in the Pacific Northwest working on self-orienteering through the woods, but June adjusted well to this new program instead.

Asher, Logan, and Ella D are thrilled to be visiting Maine this summer. They’ll be staying near Acadia National Park, where Ella no doubt can show her younger brothers where she visited as part of the 2nd Year Senior Bar Harbor trip!

Sasha S is keeping busy this summer participating in both tennis and golf day camps.

Jonah and Myles S can’t wait to spend some time in Maine this summer. They even hope to stop by Kohut to say hello to the team and show their mom around Kamp for the first time.

Eleanor T is spending a lot of her summer in Rhode Island and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Her older siblings are also doing well: Miranda is currently a student at Brown University while Thomas will be going to Yale University after a gap year.

Head of Landsports Hamish Campbell is finishing up his final project for his Masters program in Human Resources. After he is finished with this project,

Hamish embarks on a road trip around Scotland.

Amelia C has enjoyed being out of the city and spending time with her extended family in Sag Harbor. While in Sag Harbor, she regularly bumps into Devon B at tennis camp! Amelia has also reconnected (virtually) with her bunkmates from last summer. Everyone is counting down the days until they’re reunited at Kohut!

Huge congratulations to Summer C for receiving an end-of-the-year award from her teachers for working hard and persevering during this time of “Distant Learning.” Congrats, Summer!

Hayden R and Skyler K had a fun time playing “Kamp at Home”, even wearing their KK uniforms! We’re sure they can not wait until they can experience “Kamp at Kamp!”

Even with distancing protocols Owen P is still able to practice twice a week with his hockey team and can’t wait until he can go back on ice. To facilitate safe practices, Owen and his team are practicing in the parking lot outside the rink.

After a marathon road trip, Brinn F is enjoying a summer in Wisconsin at her family’s Lake Michigan home.

Maeve and Agnes B have had a very busy summer so far. Earlier in June, as the girls were making their way to Rangeley Lake in Northern Maine, they stopped by Kamp

summer despite the 100-degree summer weather of Texas.

Theodora and Esther A can not wait for their first Kohut experiences in Summer 2021. In the meantime, they’re both having a nice summer filled with tennis camp.

Drew and Gregory C are certainly using their Kohut skills this summer! The boys recently had an adventure trip in Colorado, spending their days hiking, camping, and paddle boarding. Drew especially had a wonderful time showing his friends how to construct fires and tie knots. When asked where he learned how to do this, Drew answered simply, “Kamp, of course!.”

Bennett and Maren M are doing well and are looking forward to a 2-week trip to the Florida coast for the opportunities to be outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Audrey and Riley B are thankful to have the opportunity to spend time outside of NYC this summer visiting their grandparents in North Carolina.

Assistant Head Counselor Des Ward has been enjoying his summer in Ireland as much as possible while missing his summer home at Kamp! Practicing for when he returns to Emerald Pool on Trip Day, Des has gone cliff diving into the Irish Sea. Des reports the water is extremely brisk and full of jellyfish!

Will and Ryan G are spending as much time as possible enjoying Maine’s pristine beaches. They also had a truly memorable experience spending a weekend on their uncle’s sailboat off the coast of Maine!

Penelope and Constantin P are having a nice summer so far. When we spoke with Penelope last, she was in the middle of enjoying France’s July 14th celebrations. Both kids are looking forward to seeing “La Marseillaise” at flagpole with their compatriots next summer.

May L and Vivi P have been able to spend time together this summer at a day arts camp. They are having lots of fun, but can’t wait to do Arts at Kamp!

Lela B has loved spending time in Midcoast Maine this summer with her family and is now even more excited for her first summer at Kamp Kohut!

Cousins Jett and Ella B, Sabine M, and Devon B have all spent time together in the Hamptons. They enjoyed reminiscing about their time at Kohut and are eager to return to 04270.

Liv G returned recently from a trip to Acadia National Park with her family. She particularly loved being able to take her dog to the dog-friendly pool and many swimming areas!

Former camper turned counselor Maddie McNulty recently brought her nieces and future Kohut campers, Capri and Vera, to Kamp for a tour! The girls had a lovely time seeing where their aunt attended when she was their age!

Even with the limited time outside, Wally C still finds a way to sharpen his soccer skills. If it isn’t a soccer ball, Wally will find any other suitable object around the house to juggle! Wally’s older brother, Clyde continues to hone in on his artistic talents. Check out his beautiful painting!

Daniel H is sad to be missing his time at Kamp this summer, but he’ll still have the opportunity to experience Maine. Later this summer, Daniel and his family will be spending two weeks in Midcoast Maine!

This past Father’s Day we loved showcasing on Instagram and Facebook current campers whose fathers also attended Kamp Kohut. A huge thank you to former campers Elihu Selter and Dan David for sharing their kids—Andrew & Jesse and Myles & Jonah—with us at Kamp!
