Dear Members,

As we reflect back on a successful season, this “yearbook” issue of our Fisher Island Club newsletter will allow you to reminisce about the many wonderful activities and events you experienced at the Club with your family, friends, and fellow Members. I would like to thank you for your involvement and support, whether as a Golf Member, a tennis player, a spa enthusiast, a food and wine aficionado, or a guest at our social events. We look forward to con-tinuing to delight you next season.

In addition to the Club’s spectacular New Year’s Eve party, we offered a va-riety of engaging evenings such as our first Restaurant Mixer, at which our restaurants showcased their finest dishes for Members to sample as they mingled and socialized. Members and guests also enjoyed several theme din-ners with entertainment, including a Full Moon Soirée, Valentine’s Day, our Presidents’ Day Weekend Clambake, and several Seafood Buffets. Annual fa-vorites such as our Dog Show and 4th of July festivities were also huge family hits. As we look forward to next season, we appreciate your feedback from our events survey, which we have already begun to utilize to enhance our event offerings this year.

The spring issue of Fisher Island Club Magazine was published in May, show-casing Executive Chef Stephane’s ever-delightful cuisine, Miami Beach in its centennial year, and the vision behind Palazzo del Sol. In April, we launched the Club’s very own custom fragrance, “1936,” with an elegant 1930’s style Garden Tea Party in our charming Mansion courtyard.

This summer, our management team has already been quite busy with several projects. The Tennis Center’s “French Open” red clay court conversion was completed in late July, making Fisher Island Club one of very few tennis facil-ities in the world to offer all four “Grand Slam” playing surfaces. Additionally, Chef Stephane and his team have been using their creative flare to develop new dishes and offerings for all of our restaurants in anticipation of the up-coming season. As Membership Satisfaction continues to be our number one priority, we are looking forward to “WOW”-ing you when you return to the Club this fall.

Have a safe and happy summer, wherever your travels may take you.

I look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Warm regards,

Bernard Lackner CEO

Dear Members:

It was truly delightful to have completed my second “season” with you this year and to have had the opportunity to meet and become better acquainted with so many of you. It is with that same elation that I look forward to sharing a wonderful summer and yet another amazing winter season with you.

We hope you enjoy this “yearbook” style newsletter as you look back on some of the great mem-ories made throughout this past year. As a perfect ending to this season’s social events, this year’s

Fourth of July festivities were among the most highly attended and most successful in the history of the Club. It was wonderful to see many of you and your beautiful families all throughout the island! Thank you for attending our events, and special thanks to our Social Committee and our Board of Directors for their tireless commitment and support. Your Social Committee, Membership team, and Food and Beverage team are already planning what is sure to be an amazing and definitely memorable 2015-2016 calendar of events, so I hope you are ready for a full social calendar! Our goal is to have the calendar finalized and sent out to the Membership by September.

Please remember that although the “busy” season is over, your Club staff is here to serve and assist you. We are committed to your satisfaction and to exceeding your expectations. Our beach and its beautiful Bahamian sands await you, as do all of our Club ame-nities!

I hope to see you around the Club soon. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

At the Spa.

The wonderful memories created during this extraordinary season provided the

perfect farewell as Members took off on their summer adventures. The entire Spa team would like to thank you for your con-stant support and dedication. Our path towards healing and wellness will continue to be the inspiration for another vigorous season.

Some great events kicked off this past sea-son, including Yoga for Health & Wellness

and the Five-Day Fitness Chal-lenge. We also held our First An-nual Fisher Island Club Wellness Fair, with informative lectures and vendors offering a variety of different healthy food options.

We are excited about several projects that have been taking place over the next few months.

Our summer began with the installation of our highly-antici-pated far-infrared sauna which pro vides many health benefits. Far-infra red aids in weight loss, detoxifying the body, pain relief, stress relief, and is known to help

reduce the healing time of damaged tissues and muscles. With the power to increase white blood cells and remove toxins from the body, the far-infrared sauna will provide the perfect boost to your immune system.

For the upcoming season, various new classes will be incorporated into our fit-

ness structure. One addition is a med-itation class, which will promote wellness through proper breathing and relaxation techniques. A healthy body begins with a healthy mind!

Additionally, kids will now have an oppor-tunity to participate in special programs designed specifically for them.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a second annual Wellness Fair, filled with lots of vital health information and many special guests. We invite you to join us--be on the look-out for a date an-nouncement.

Wellness lectures will be provided during the season to keep Members motivated about the improvement of their health, and a raw foodist will be joining us once again to help promote the benefits of clean eating.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back for another great season!

Director of Operations.Dear Members, I would like to thank you for the warm welcome I have received during my first months here at the Club as Director of Operations. My background in hospitality stems from various executive hotel positions at the St. Regis, both in Fort Lauderdale and Aspen, at One Bal Harbour Resort and Spa, on a corporate level with Norwegian Cruise Lines, as well as with luxury hotels and re-sorts in Bermuda, Monaco, and the Neth-erlands. At Fisher Island Club, I have been provid-

ing daily strategic leadership to the Food & Beverage, Hotel, Spa, Golf, Tennis and Executive teams in order to provide the Club with the highest standards of service and Member satisfaction, while working to attain financial goals. Throughout the summer all of our teams have been creating and implementing goals in their respective departments as well as redefining service quality standards in or-der to reach our vision of being the best private club in the world. I am committed to further developing Fisher Island Club’s internal culture to produce favorable results and make your

Club the finest in its class and deliver the WOW! I am looking forward meeting each and ev-ery one of you during the season.

Looking back over the past year, I am delighted to have been able to be a part of this season’s beverage events at the Club. Members were invited to participate in a variety of offerings, including wine dinners, beverage seminars, and wine tastings.

We were pleased to have been able to feature some incredible wines at our seasonal wine dinners. Chef Stephane tantalized Members’ palates by creating innovative dishes paired with wines from Sicily’s Donnafugata winery and Northern California’s Pahlmeyer vineyards. To top off the 2014-2015 season, award-winning celebrity chef Michael Chiarello joined us for a Napa-inspired SOBEWFF dinner featuring Far Niente wines.

Members also had the opportunity to sample and learn about various beverages through monthly Beverage Seminars. Our Mixology class was an educational and hands-on experi-ence, turning Members into mixologists for the evening as they learned to squeeze citrus juices and worked to shake and strain, creating their own twist on classic cocktails like the cos-mopolitan, margarita, and mojito. Other offerings included seminars on Paso Roble wines and absinthe. Facundo Rum also partnered with Padrón Cigars for a tasting soirée in the Mansion Courtyard in February.

As we plan for next season, we are looking to explore opportunities to excite your palate even more with wines from Opus One, Darioush, and the return of Peter Michael Winery. Other tasting events will feature spirits such as unique tequilas, scotches and rums. The Beach Club will be offering new, innovative dining experiences such as Rosé Roasts, Mojito Madness, and Caipirihna Creations. I am excited for the upcoming 2015-2016 season and am looking forward to perfecting your beverage experience upon your return to the Club.

Cheers!

The 2014-2015 golf season at The Links at Fisher Island was an immense suc-

cess! Each year our Golf Members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of events and tournaments, and this season was certainly no exception.

Although the golf season started in late October, Members had the chance to cel-ebrate the completion of the Golf Grill renovations and kickoff the social season in late November with a “ParTee” in our beautiful Golf Clubhouse. The event was a wonderful way for everyone to gather af-ter their summer travels and to witness the unveiling of the new short game area at the back of the practice range – with two chip-ping greens, five practice bunkers, fairway and rough chipping areas and a new putting green – this area offers every short game shot imaginable.

This season, in addition to vying for weekly prizes, both Men and Ladies joined in an exciting, season-long competition called “The Vanderbilt Shoot-Out.” Each month, from November through April, players accrued points through participat-ing in Ladies and Men’s Days. Players who

tallied the most points (one lady and one man) each month qualified for our year-end “Vanderbilt Shoot-Outs.” The Men’s year-end champion was John Tedesco. The Ladies championship was rained out, unfortunately, but the prize was gracious-ly split between the top contenders. This competition allowed Members the chance to work toward an end-of-season goal, building lots of anticipation along the way.

The Men’s Golf Members had an active sea-son with several key tournaments including the Men’s Invitational Member/Guest, the Mixed Team Club Championship, the Sta-bleford Tournament, and the Parent/Child Tournament. And at the end of their six Interclub Tournaments, the Men placed second overall – an incredible ranking! The Ladies also competed in six Interclub matches and came in third place, only missing second place by half a point. Well done all!!

The Ladies had a lively schedule with similar activities, and they enjoyed several social gatherings in conjunc-tion with their invitationals. The sec-ond annual Member/Guest Vanderbilt

Classic was a throwback to the 1920s with a Great Gatsby theme. Ladies dressed up in tones of white, beige, and gold with a touch of Roaring ‘20s attire. A great time was had by all. In April, the Ladies threw their Guest or Not event, themed “In the Navy.” With touches of navy blue and white plus nautical decor, the luncheon was a huge hit. Members were even more de-lighted by the staff ’s sailor uniforms! Not to be outdone, the Ladies Closing Day party was truly spectacular with a Cinco de Mayo theme, complete with margaritas and a mariachi band! Special thanks goes to Inge Palenzona and Tita Reyes for their

dedication in planning these fantastic events. We are looking forward to another fun-filled season as Barbara Zweig takes the helm as the Ladies Chair for 2015-2016.

Both Men and Ladies partic-ipated in the annual Fisher Island Philanthropic Fund’s Golf Classic in late January. Now in its 20th year, the entire weekend of events raised over $130K for at-risk youth and children in need. After the tournament, participants were treated to a lovely cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres at the The Links Club-house.

Also celebrating its 20th year was the most anticipated event of the season, the International Cup Tournament, started in 1995 by Bernard and Paulette Darty. Golf-ers were divided into International and American teams, and a regal opening cer-emony complete with bagpipes and flag raisings was held on the social green next to Hole 1. The International team reigned supreme as champions this year--making the score 11-9, International--congratula-

tions to all partici-pants! Following the 3-day event, Mem-bers were treated to a wonderful clos-ing banquet by the Dartys in honor of the 20th Internation-al Cup. An awards ceremony followed,

at which Mr. and Mrs. Darty were thanked and presented with a plaque and trophy in recognition of their contribution to the Fisher Island Club Golf Program.

Besides these wonderful events, many Golf Members are to be recognized for their achievements throughout the season. The Men’s Club Champion was Rafael Llopiz, with Net Champion Ken Heithoff. Dr. Heithoff was also the Senior Champion this year. For the Ladies, Maria Pia Monroy was the Club Champion, with Alla Barash as Net Champion. In the Match Play Tour-nament, Tony Fano was the Champion, and Alla Barash was the Ladies Champion. Ad-ditionally, those who scored a hole-in-one this season were: Michelle Segall, Sheila Broser, Michael Ashkin, and Frank Rodri-guez. Congratulations to all on these in-

credible achievements!

A big thank you to the Golf Committee Members, who have been instrumental in the success of the Golf Program: Peggy Smith, our current Golf Committee Chair, Ken Heithoff, George Collins, Robert Ny-dick, Jack Leonard, Julie Rose, Maria Pia Monroy, Joe Nieman, Joni Carosella, John Tedesco, Susan Silver, and our Club Board liaison, Larry Fletcher.

As the summer progresses, the golf pro-fessional staff, as always, is preparing for another incredible season. Dave Ayyar and Charlie Starrs are committed to giving in-struction tailored to each individual. Our golf course superintendent, Paul Ludwig, and his crew have done an outstanding job of maintaining our exceptional course throughout the year and will be working throughout the summer on annual mainte-nance and improvements. Phil Calderone and Ermilia Utile are gearing up, as well, stocking the Pro Shop with the latest ap-parel and new items.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall for our Opening Days!

We had a great tennis season at Fisher Island Club, and the Tennis Center

experienced many exciting changes. In Au-gust 2014, the Club resurfaced its two hard courts with the latest and best technology. Once complete, we had two new Deco Cushion “U.S. Open” hard courts, and the amount of play on them instantly doubled. In addition, the Deco Cushion courts be-came the “buzz” of the Tennis Center this fall when Caroline Wozniacki, WTA world ranked #5, became a Member of Fisher Is-land Club and started practicing daily on the renovated courts. There was a noticeable

new energy surrounding the Tennis Center as many Members flocked to see Caro-line train. As her practice sessions grew in popularity, so did the number of WTA and ATP touring pros practicing at Fisher Island Club. These players included current WTA world ranked #1 – Serena Williams, #5 – Caroline Wozniacki, #7 – Agnieszka Radwanska, #8 – Lucie Safarova, #26 – Eugenie Bouchard, and #34 – Sloane Stephens. Top ATP players included #6 – Tomas Berdych, #16 – Grigor Dimitrov, and #18 – Feliciano Lopez. Famous coaches who visited Fisher Island Club and spent time working with these players included Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, and even Paul An-nacone. Our goal of re-energizing the Ten-

nis Center was reached much faster than we could have imagined, in a way no one could have predicted. It was certainly an exciting time, with so many past tennis leg-ends and current top-ranked women and men practicing at Fisher Island Club!

As the tennis season progressed, we held many new events, including several round robins, interclub matches, and a few ex-hibition matches that were well attended and added a much-needed diversity to the Tennis Program. Our Club Championship Tournament season was also a huge suc-

cess! The Adult/Child and Junior Tournaments during the December holiday season were a blast. Seeing mothers and fathers teaming up with their sons or daughters in the Adult Filial Tournament was a special afternoon for so many families. In addition, the Junior Tournaments were also excit-ing, with our junior competi-tors making it so much fun to watch them compete, learn sportsmanship, and grow as tennis players. In February, we launched our Adult Club Championship Tournament season and experienced a substantial increase in partic-ipation for these events, espe-cially among the men’s tour-

naments. Even more exciting, the level of competition was much higher than in years past, as many of our best players participat-ed in these tournaments for the first time. All of this resulted in several tremendous finals match-ups, with many championships decided in tightly contested third sets.

In February, we held our Pro-Am Event, which is always a fun day at the Club. Members were matched with rotating ten-nis professionals from throughout Florida, giving them a chance to experience a level of competition in which they rarely have the opportunity to participate. In March, Mats Wilander, former ATP #1 in the world, taught the world famous “Wilander on Wheels” adult clinic. It was yet anoth-er fantastic day on the tennis courts and a special treat to spend time with a leg-

end of the game! We concluded the tennis season with our premier event, the Mixed Doubles Member/Guest Event. The com-petition was once again at a very high level, the turnout was great, and our Members had the pleasure of experiencing our new pergola, specifically designed to provide spectators shade to enjoy tennis events. It was a very special ending to the 2014-15 Fisher Island Club tennis season!

In terms of improvements, at the directive of our Board and CEO, Fisher Island Club hired Mr. Neil Stubley, Head Groundsman at the All England Club (Wimbledon) in London, England, to consult our turf main-tenance program. At the All England Club, Mr. Stubley directs a staff of over 40 work-ers to maintain what most consider to be the finest and most world-renowned grass courts in the world. As keeper of the world’s most iconic tennis venue, he is widely considered to be one of the leading experts regarding grass court maintenance. In March, Mr. Stubley spent three days at Fisher Island Club to consult, create and implement a new grass court maintenance plan. Together with our staff, he worked specifically to improve the “playability” of our grass courts. With Mr. Stubley’s new-ly-designed plan having been fully imple-mented in early May, we now expect our grass courts to improve over the course of the following year and eventually play at a similar standard to Wimbledon’s grass courts.

Finally, we know many of our Members will be extremely excited to hear that the conversion of courts 8-9 to “French Open” red clay courts has been completed. Fisher Island Club is now one of very few ten-nis facilities in the world to offer all four “Grand Slam” playing surfaces – a very special accomplishment which is sure to attract top players! We invite you to come to the Tennis Center and try out our brand new courts for yourselves.

On behalf of the tennis staff, I hope you are having a great summer, and we look for-ward to seeing you on the tennis courts this fall!

This past season, the Marina welcomed four new Yacht Members, two sixty-foot slips, one seventy-foot slip and

one one-hundred-twenty-foot slip. Improvements included the replacement of 25 Greenheart pilings in the Guest Ma-rina mid-season and the addition of new merchandise in the Marina retail store (Tilley hats, Zeppro belts, Fisher Island

Club towels and shirt/hat gift packs). A new position was added in the department to allow for a fifth member of the staff in order to provide additional customer service and to help elevate the level of service provided to Members.

During the summer, the Marina will be completing its normal maintenance (pressure washing, painting, repairs, etc.) to prepare for the 2015-2016 season. The Guest Marina will undergo minor repairs, which will involve adding some additional piling and replacing some stringers. A 10% discount for Equity Members on Marina retail merchandise has been implemented, and a discounted daily, weekly and monthly rate for golf cart rentals for Equity Members has been established. Our Dockmaster, Raiza, is expanding the line of collectables, gifts, and boating- and marina-related clothing in the Marina store. For next season, we are looking into the installation of new slip mark-ers to aid in nighttime visibility, and we are also developing ideas for marina-related events – stay tuned!

Have a safe summer on the water.

Dear Members,

I want to thank all of you for giving me such a warm welcome here at Fisher Island Club. I am so thrilled to be a part of this team and family. I am also incredibly excited to get this season started and provide you with a fun-filled social calendar with exciting enter-tainment and activities.

Currently we are working to ensure successful and satisfying Member events for the upcoming season including a comedy night, kids’ club events, a season opening party, the 2nd annual Taste of the Island, a Top Chef competition and Member chili cook-off, our annual Holiday Boutique and many more. I am honored and delighted to have the opportunity to be working with great Social Committee Members and the Fisher Island Club team. A priority of mine will be meeting those of you whom I haven’t met already, along with getting better acquainted with those of you whom I’ve met.

Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime should you have any thoughts or sugges-tions. I look forward to seeing you around the Club!
