CLASS TIPS• Look for students who have a hard time reading.

• Assign them lower level spelling words, and try phonics games.

• Use whole class coral reading instead of round robin.

• Have one on ones with struggling readers and have them read passages of their reading ability to you to encourage them while you work on increasing their level.

• Go to the Florida Center For Reading Research (FCRR). They have a lot of activities you can do as centers, and even send home some activities with students who can use the extra practice at home.

• Bring Vocabulary up and use it often in class discussions, and out of class discussions so students can absorb the words.

• Vocabulary tips: paint chips, four squares, comic strips, mad libs using only targeted vocabulary.
