Reclassified freshmen are students who did not pass a minimum of 5 credits during their first year in high school.

Students: 9 Reclassified Freshmen Interventions: Participate in Individual

Weekly Meetings Measurement: Grades, Attendance, and

Discipline Referrals Setting: Met individually in the High

School Guidance Office Conference Room

The purpose of this intervention was to work to improve academic performance and attendance, while reduce discipline referrals of reclassified freshmen.

Met with students individually each week, once in small groups of 2-3 for 6 weeks

Each week, grades were individually addressed in each class, and the student was made aware of any missing assignments

Students were encouraged to meet with teachers to address missing work

Some weeks, additional topics were addressed

This study found that weekly individual meetings with reclassified freshman showed an improvement in grades, attendance, and an overall reduction in discipline referrals.

Further research needs to be done to see if a small group would also be effective. Meeting individually on a weekly basis is time consuming.

Research should be done to determine if it would be just as effective to meet every other week to make individual meets less time consuming

Involve teachers and help encourage communication between students and teachers

Follow up meetings should occur throughout year
