There are several rewards that I use in my classroom! At monaview we use PBIS, which stands for Postive Behavior Interventions and Supports. We have three
school wide expectations:
Respect Yourself Respect Others
Respect your environment
Individual Rewards Group Rewards Class Rewards
Students may earn Treasure Tokens (Pride Paws) for demonstrating the three expectations we have at
Monaview. These treasure tokens are redeemable at the school
store.
If groups are showing cooperation, are following directions, and just
demonstrating good behavior, their pin can move a space on the
treasure map.
The class can earn Lions Roars from other teachers and staff
for following expectations. If they earn a Lion’s Roar, they can earn a gem for the treasure
box. They may also earn a gem for following expectations within
the classroom.
Classroom management
8
In my classroom, we use the card system. When a student breaks a
class rule or school wide expectation, they will turn a card. Students who
are missing part or all of their homework, also have to turn a card. At the end of the day, students
record their color in their PIRATE Binders.
Colors of cards found below:

Classroom procedures
Morning Map/routine: As soon as students come in, they look on the board where the morning map is located and follow the procedures. They are as follows.
1. Pull lunch stick 2. unpack (turn in HW) 3. sharpen your pencils 4. copy your homework 5. use the restroom
6. get books for your book bin 7. begin morning work
8. read!
attendance: I take attendance based on the morning lunch count. Since you don’t have access to Power
Teacher, just write the names of any absent students on a sticky note, and send it to the office with one of the weekly helpers.
Lunch count:
Take the lunch count and send it to the cafeteria on a sticky note with
one of the student helpers. Example: Pizza−9 Yogurt−2 Pbj−5
Lining up: 1. Put all belongings away and
off desk. 2. Push in chairs. 3. Check to see if class is
hallway ready! (Facing forward, mouths closed, hand by their side & shoes tied!)
11
restroom: Students may not use the restroom during
instruction time. I let students use the restroom during independent reading time and any other time
where students are working independently. Of course, I make exceptions for emergencies. Pass around the bathroom bear to initiate restroom & water break. Students know the bear goes
clockwise to each group. Class library:
I only allow 6 students at a time in the class library. When students are checking out books in the morning, they must wait until there are 5 or less students. They only have about 4 minutes to check out as other students need to have a turn! Students spending too much time must return to their seats.
Computer use:
Students who finish work early may use the class computers. They may
only get on Compass.
During recess, students can take turns playing games on the computer at appropriate websites. They are not required to do Compass during recess
time. Telephone:
If you need to use the phone, there is a staff list of
numbers posted right next to the phone. (You just need to dial the 4 digit code when making calls within the district.) If you need to call out, you must press 9, punch in the number you wish to call, and then the school phone code: 0043 after
the beep.
dismissal: Students pack up when we return from recess. Make sure they color their color on their homework agenda. Stack chairs. Clean up and make sure the floors are free of litter! Bus riders and walkers line up in the hall. Car riders check for their numbers and line up in the hall if
it’s not on the screen.

School procedures
cafeteria: Line up students according to their lunch choice. We go through lunch line 1. The line leader will know where to go. The students may only enter the lunch line when the person in front of them has gotten their milk and silverware.
Students may not go back through the line if they forgot something. During the first ten minutes of lunch, students eat on red cups, which means, no talking. After ten minutes, you can turn the cup to green and students
may talk quietly to the others sitting beside and in front of them.
When it is time to go, we use finger signals to indicate what to do. 1 finger means – trash on your tray.
2 fingers means – stand up behind your tray 3 fingers means – pick up your tray
4 fingers means – Lines may move to dump trays! (one line at a time)
hallway: Students must follow the school wide expectations while in the hallway. They
must: * walk silently in a single file line with hands and feet in their own personal space * walk on the right side of the hallway on
the colored row of tiles * facing forward!
* go directly to and from their destination if they are walking alone

Nurse (angela Williams):
If a student needs to visit the nurse, please just write a short note letting the nurse know the problem.
If a student gets sick in the classroom, please contact
Jimmy Street, the head custodian.
If a child needs a band−aid, they do not need to see the nurse. We have those in our class safety bag. The
class safety bag should go everywhere we go.
Playground rules: 1. Only go down the slide. 2. Keep your hands to yourself. 3. Do not climb on top of the
monkey bars or in the tree. 4. Use the swings properly. 5. Leave woodchips, rocks, and
others objects on the ground!

Fire Drill Procedures
Don’t forget the safety bag! The teacher is the last one
out of the classroom. Follow one of the other 3rd
grade classes! Walk quickly!
Count the students when you get outside! There should be 18! If a student is missing, fill out the student locator sheet and hold the emergency book on
red! Give the student locator sheet to Stephanie Smith.
STUDENT ARE SILENT! Wait until the all clear is given and return to class.

Lockdown Procedures
Partial Lockdown (Possible situation outside
the building)
Principal will announce, “This is a partial
Lockdown.”
Principal will call District Hotline (355-8890)
Procedure:
Close classroom doors and windows,
restrict visibility.
Runners will lock all external doors to keep
intruders outside the building.
Stay in classrooms or lockdown area (if it is
OK to move in the building, an
announcement will be made)
Resume business with the “All Clear”
signal from the principal.
Full lockdown (Possible intruder in the
building)
Principal will announce, “This is a full
lockdown.”
Principal will call 911. Ms. Edge will call the
District hotline (355-8890).
Immediately, close classroom doors and
windows. Doors need to be locked so
they so not open from the outside.
Close window blinds, curtains, restrict
window visibility.
All persons should sit on the floor away
from windows and doors. Remain quiet.
No cell phones or contact with the office
through the intercom (nothing that would
draw attention to the area)
People Accountability will not occur
during the lockdown.
Anyone in a common area when the
lockdown is announced shall move
quickly to the closest secured area until
the lockdown is over.
The principal will announce “All Clear”
and the normal school day can continue.
FYI: Full Lockdown is the result of
a possible intruder. Partial
Lockdown is the result of
something in the area robbery,
shooting, etc that would prevent
us from going outside. During a
partial lockdown depending on the
severity we will announce if it is
OK to move inside the building.
