Forever White . . . See the DifferenceWith Stuller’s X1 white gold, you get premium white color that provides the look of platinum at the cost of 14K. Youno longer need to rhodium plate in order to achieve a bright white surface finish. X1 white gold has been enhancedwith trace elements that provide grain structure control, ductility, and improved mechanical properties, while main-taining excellent casting characteristics and providing for an excellent surface finish. X1 is alloyed to meet Europeanspecifications for gold fineness and meets/exceeds EN1811 nickel release requirements. Tested and approved by theStuller manufacturing team.

How White is White?

Much of today’s white gold jewelry is a yellowish or off-white karat gold alloy that has been rhodium platedto provide a bright-white finish. Unfortunately, when the rhodium plating wears off, it becomes obvious thatthe gold is not very white at all. Because of this issue, the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America(MJSA) and the World Gold Council created the White Gold Task Force. The WGTF’s purpose was to createguidelines and a grading system for determining the color of white gold alloys, and to define how white analloy must be to be classified as a “white gold”. As a result of this classification system, the levels or gradesof whiteness for which rhodium plating is considered necessary, optional, or not needed were developed.

In March of 2005 at the MJSA Expo New York, the White Gold Task Force released their guidelines andrecommendations for grading the color of white gold alloys. The grading system is based on the YID 1925(Yellowness Index) of each white gold alloy. Test results for the various white alloys were established usinga color spectrophotometer and specific lighting conditions. The guidelines for white color are as follows:

• Grade 1: Premium White Color; Rhodium plating is not required to achieve a good white finish. YID rating is less than 19.

• Grade 2: Moderate White Color: Rhodium plating is optional. YID rating is between 19 and 24.5.• Grade 3: Off-White Color: Rhodium Plating is required to achieve an acceptable white color.

YID rating is between 24.5 and 32.

Gold alloys with a YID rating greater than 32 are not considered to be “white gold”.

* The X1 family has been color tested by the American Assay and Gemological Office, and has received the level1 (premium white color) rating, which specifies that rhodium plating is not required to achieve good white color.

** X1 samples submitted to the American Assay and Gemological Office for nickel release testing, have met thecurrent EN:1811 European nickel release rate requirements.

No matter what your white gold casting grain and mill product needs are, Stuller has the white goldsolution for your particular application. Stuller’s white gold offering ranges from low nickel-soft whitealloys to high nickel and high palladium alloys with a premium white color.

Technical Data and Information

Description: X1 casting grain produces a white finish with a Level 1 white color (YID <19).These casting grain formulas are deoxidized and grain refined, and are designed for castingapplications only. X1 sheet, wire, sizing stock and solder is also available in 14 karat.

* Quenching: As a general rule, quench just prior to the red glow leaving the button (unless casting diamondsor gemstones set in wax.)If the optimal quench is missed, Ductility may be recovered by annealing the casting(s).

Annealing: Heat in an oven set to 1350-1400 °F for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on size of castings. Quench immediately. Do not allow to air cool.

**Stuller does not guarantee that all products manufactured with X1 will achieve the same test resultsfor nickel-release rates, as condition of samples can affect results.

Under certain conditions, all nickel-white gold alloys are susceptible to stress corrosion (cracking).

Stuller cannot guarantee the X1 family to be completely immune to stress corrosion.
