Information about the facultyFaculty of Regional Development and International Studies (FRDIS) was founded in 2008 as fifth faculty of Mendel University in Brno. Its creation was prompted by growing importance of the regional dimension of social and economic life which is reflected in economic policy in regional, national and international contexts. This was associated with the need to train a new type of universityeducated pro-fessionals equipped with complex knowledge and skills allowing them to partici-pate in solving problems of balanced economic and social development of regions for strengthening the economic position and social cohesion of countries not only within the EU and the position of the European continent on the world stage as well as meeting the social need of educating specialists on developing countries.

Faculty‘s thematic profile and focus of its programme aimed at internationalization of studies and enhancing excellence guarantee its high attractiveness not only in na-tional but also international educational and research area. It reflects requirements of systematic and comprehensive training of university-educated professionals able to actively react and respond to changes in the national and international environ-ment within the context of global and regional development. Faculty offers gradu-ates possibility of high employability and prestige in the business, commercial and manufacturing sectors, in consulting services, state and public administration, or tertiary and non-profit sectors, as well as the EU and ther international institutions. 10+1 REASONS WHY FRDIS

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTBachelor Programme

Aim of the study of „Regional Development“ bachelor programme with subject „Socio-economic and Environmental Development of Region“ is to train univer-sity-educated professionals having competencies for qualified professional, ex-pert and managerial positions in complex socio-economic and environmental development of regions with knowledge of both global and local contexts and cross-compliance of development in the context of modern trends of regional development policies and their effective implementation in business and in public administration institutions.

This programme can be studied in Czech and English.

SpecializationStudents can choose to specialize in Business or Public Administration.

Qualification of GraduatesAim of the study is to train graduates for:

» functions in regional and local authorities, » work in regional centres of national or international institutions, » functions in institutions related to securing functions of the state

in regions, » expertise in the field of regional development, including advice on drafting

and processing projects related to regional development, » carrying out functions in financial and banking institutions entering

into regional development activities, » managerial functions in companies of various types, » taking part in interest groups, associations and non-profit organizations, » self-employment.

Graduate‘s ProfileProfile of the graduate of this programme consists in addition to general knowledge and skills of university-educated professional also in the ability to:

» carry out a comprehensive analysis of the region in terms of natural resources, social and cultural resources and economic performance of the region,

» competently draw up and process projects to support activities in the region actively using knowledge about the relevant region,

» conceptually address issues of economic development in the region in economic, political, environmental and social context,

» analyse the business environment and identify critical factors and trends in general and regional contexts,

» perform comparison of regional disparities and key factors that influence these disparities,

» draft and evaluate proposed solutions to eliminate regional disparities in the broader context of development,

» launch and develop self-employment in the region, » apply environmental aspects in analytical, conceptual and implementation

stages of solving particular problem, » teamwork and active use of knowledge of psychology and dealing with people, » identify and use appropriate sources of information, » formulate proposals for solving problems and defend proposed solutions.

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTMaster‘s Degree Programme

Aim of the study of „Regional Development“ master‘s degree postgraduate pro-gramme with course „Socio-economic and Environmental Development of Re-gion“ is to train university-educated professionals providing them with knowledge of processes of globalization and regionalization and their link to the sustainable development of regions, economic context of regional development, environmen-tal conditions and issues of natural resources, social and cultural conditions and relationships in regional development and regional, geographic, demographic and administrative issues, importance and use of cultural heritage for regional de-velopment, methods of organization and management in public administration, local government and in business activities.

This programme can be studied in Czech and English.

SpecializationStudents can choose to specialize in Business, Public Administration or Project Management.

Qualification of GraduatesAim of the study is to train graduates for:

» positions in regional centres of national or international institutions, » functions in institutions related to securing functions of the state

in regions, » functions in regional and local authorities, » expertise in the field of regional development, including advice on drafting

and processing of projects related to regional development, » functions in financial and banking institutions entering into regional

development activities, » carrying out managerial functions in companies of various types, » taking part in interest groups, associations and non-profit organizations, » expertise in the field of regional development.

Graduate’s ProfileProfile of the graduate of this programme consists in addition to general knowledge and skills of university-educated professional also in the ability to:

» conceptually address issues of economic development in the region in economic, environmental and social context,

» specify conditions and prerequisites of region performance, address regional disparities in a broader context, and identify and promote innovative business activities,

» create and implement strategies and programmes of support and funding of regional development in relation to the European area,

» develop and apply findings resulting from theories of social and territorial development in global and regional context,

» analyse and assess trends and real situation in the regions, » use environmental, geographic and other specialized information necessary

to tackle the issue of regional development.

INTERNATIONAL TERRITORIAL STUDIESBachelor programme

Aim of the study is to train graduates of International Development Studies for work at national and international level wherever comprehensive knowledge of emerging countries and regions is required: in particular the issues of economic, environmental, social, cultural and political nature. Employers may be national and international institutions and organizations engaged in development activities, multilateral development agencies, stakeholders in the immigration services, non-governmental organizations. In addition, the graduates can work in education, development planning, public administration and media industry. Finally, the graduates will be qualified for work in businesses oriented on devel-oping countries and regions both in terms of trade and investment.

This programme can be studied in Czech and English.

Qualification of GraduatesStudies train graduates for:

» positions in national and international institutions, » positions in organizations engaged in development activities, » functions in multilateral development agencies, » functions in organisations and bodies in immigration services, » functions in NGOs, » work in education, development planning, public administration

and media industry. » work in businesses oriented on developing countries and regions, including

areas of the tropics and subtropics both in terms of trade and investment.

of economic, environmental and social policies.

INTERNATIONAL TERRITORIAL STUDIESMaster‘s Degree Programme

Master‘s degree programme of International Territorial Studies with subject „In-ternational Development Studies“ offers choice of specialization in Global Deve-lopment and European Studies. Aim of the programme is to train graduates with the ability to identify critical factors and trends in the developing world both in general and international context, assess causality and existence of problems of the developing world and draft proposals for solutions, including crisis situations, translate proposals addressing these issues into development assistance projects including respecting environmental impacts of decisions in a broader context. At the same time, students will gain practical knowledge of specific current issues concerning selected region of the developing world – Africa, South and Southeast Asia or Latin America – according to their choice and will be able to draft develo-pment projects primarily for the selected region. Graduates of European Studies will be able to understand the role of the European Union in the global environ-ment, with emphasis on its interaction with developing countries.

This programme can be studied in Czech and English.

SpecializationStudents can choose to specialize in Global Development or European Studies.

Qualification of GraduatesStudies train graduates for work:

» in national and international institutions, » in organizations and agencies dealing with the developing world, » in public administration and non-governmental organizations, » positions of leaders and policy makers of international projects, » in the business sector in positions responsible for transnational expansion

of companies into the developing world, » in individual business activities in the developing world.

» knowledge of the current international economic, political and social situation and assessment of its impact in different regions of the world,

» focus on intercultural issues and their context in the global space, » assessment of impact of economic development on quality of life

and the environment, » respecting the complexity of the process of international cooperation, » identification of crisis caused by natural and economic effects, » draft development projects and forms of their funding, » identify new development challenges and propose solutions using EU

funding.
