Activity 1 Choose a problem:

1. To begin, ask students to select a problem.2. Inform them that their chosen problem will frame the ideas

they generate as part of the creative thinking process.3. Students can consider a real world problem they may have

generated from the Problem Solving activity, or select one of the following:

• How might we redesign fast food restaurants for health conscious people so that there are healthy drive-through fast food options?

• How might we improve internet access for developing countries so that more people have access to learning online?

• How might we provide solar power for everyone so that we can reduce electricity gas emissions?

Activity 2 Visualisation:

1.   Provide students with a copy of the ‘Super HeroTemplate’

2.   Ask them to imagine they were a super hero and toconsider what powers they would need to solve theirproblem.

3.   Students consider the following questions:• What is your super hero name?• What super powers do you have?• What super gear helps you solve the problem?• What is your super hero catch phrase?

Activity 3 Storyboarding:

1. Ask students to consider the steps they would need to taketo solve their problem.

2. Inform them that the intention is to aim to reach a creativesolution to the problem.

3. Storyboarding helps you map out the problem, considerpossible solutions and think creatively throughout thisprocess.

4. Before you begin, inform students of some top tips forsketching using a storyboard:

• Keep ideas simple• Sketch one idea per box• Capture as many ideas as you can• Aim to keep refining the idea as you go along

5. Now it’s time to sketch out a solution to your problem usingthe storyboarding template.

Activity 4 Paradigm Shift:

1. Part of the creative thinking process involves continuallyquestioning ideas, pushing the boundaries and thinkingoutside the box.

2. In the activity ‘Paradigm Shift’ students will use cards tohelp them to consider their problem from a newperspective.

3. Students can work in pairs to select a card and brainstormnew ideas on the ‘Storyboard’ template for ways in whichthey would solve the problem if it were for a specificaudience or purpose.

4. Inform students that thinking about diversity brings aunique perspective to problem solving and fuels creativethinking.
