Photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko share photos and their story on a perilous adventure to hike through the Grand Canyon, In places, the canyon is 18 miles wide and more than a mile deep, and the adventurers quickly realize the enormity of the task ahead, enduring sprained ankles and hypernatremia mere days into the hike.
