To start with…

“It’s not about you, it’s about Him !!!!”

“For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, everything got started in Him and finds it’s purpose in Him…”

(Colossians 1:16-Msg)

Page 3: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

What does that mean?• The ministry is His• The people involved in it are His• The circumstances are under His

control• He calls people, He gives the vision

and the strength to carry on• He brings forth new people and

enables them to continue what others have started

Page 4: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

So then, what is our part in all this?

We must: develop clear aims and focus create and use all possible

resources (literature, local, national and international events)

teach and train people to carry on the vision

make sure we, ourselves, are people worth following

Postmodernism• Postmodernism literally means 'after the modernist

movement'. While "modern" itself refers to something "related to the present", the movement of modernism and the following reaction of postmodernism are defined by a set of perspectives. It is used in critical theory to refer to a point of departure for works of literature, drama, architecture, and design, as well as in marketing and business and the interpretation of history, law and culture in the late 20th century. Unfortunately, there is no authoritative definition yet.

• Postmodernism is an aesthetic, literary, political or social philosophy, which was the basis of the attempt to describe a condition, or a state of being, or something concerned with changes to institutions and conditions (as in Giddens, 1990) as postmodernity. In other words, postmodernism is the "cultural and intellectual phenomenon", especially since the 1920s' new movements in the arts, while postmodernity focuses on social and political outworkings and innovations globally, especially since the 1960s in the West.

Holism / Humanism

• According to Joan veon, james Lovelock, formulated the Gaia Hypothesis, which today is known as the worship of the earth. It propagates holism, which perverts and inverts genesis 1.

• Holism is evolution at its finest, man evolves to the point where he is equal with the earth, the plants, and the animals and the environment is elevated to a position of dominance over man.

Page 10: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

HumanismHumanism is an ideological, political, and religious belief that

denies the existence of God.  Atheists are humanist, as are new-agers, and many others.  Those who adhere to the "theory" of evolution are humanists as well.  Listed below are the five basic tenets (doctrines) of the Humanist Manifesto.

1. Religious Humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.

2.       Humanism believes that man is a part of nature and that he has emerged as the result of a continuous process. (evolution).

3.       Moral values derive their source from human experience.  Ethics is autonomous and situational, needing no theological or ideological sanction.

4.       Traditional religions inhibit humans from experiencing their full potentialities.

5.       We can discover no divine purpose or providence for the human species.  We are responsible for what we are or will become.  No

Christianity

• NAMCHRISTIANITY• God is personal  • He is our Heavenly

Father who loves us• God is the Almighty

Creator of the universe, and all within it

• Man is finite, and one of God’s creations

• Rebellion from God is sin

• All have sinned, and all must be saved

• Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins

• Only through faith in Him may man be saved

• Jesus is the Son of God, and is part of the triune nature of God.

New age

• God is impersonal• God is all and all is God• God is part of creation as

are all of us• There is no sin, only

misunderstanding of the truth

• Man saves himself• Heaven and hell do not

exist, they are state of mind

• There is a literal Heaven, and a literal Hell.Jesus is a man who exemplified “Christ Consciousness, and the divinity that is man

Page 12: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

Relativism

• Culture of tolerance

• Moral neutrality• Privatization• Prescriptivism eg

media

Page 13: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

Secularism

• Secularism (noun) is the belief that life can be lived, and the universe understood, with little or no reliance on, or reference to, supernatural powers, such as gods. In a secular society, religion (or lack thereof) is a private matter, playing little role in discussions in common public forums.

Sustainable DevelopmentA paradigm shift in values, Economics, and Governance• Agenda 21 sets up the global

infrastructure needed to manage, count, and control all of the world’s assets, pastures, rangelands, farmer’s fields, ocean and inland waterways, marine environment, marine life, cities, housing, sewer and solid wastes, methods of production, air, pollution, biotechnology-every aspect of living-farming, production and manufacturing, research and medicine, etc, along with you and me.

The earth charter initiative

• It’s a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society for the 21st century.

• Created by global civil society, endorsed by thousands of organisations and institutions, the charter is not only called into action, but a motivating force inspiring change to the world over.

Page 17: Student ministries Networking conference Drakensville 2008 AK Lutakwa AK Lutakwa

• “ The real goal for the Earth Charter is that it will in fact become like Ten commandments:

Maurice Strong-1992(secretary of the UN)

“Do not do the the environment of others what you do not want done to your own environment….my hope is that this charter will be a kind of “sermon on the mount which will guide human behavior toward the environment in the next century”

-Mikhail Gorbachev, The Los Angeles Times, May 8,1997

• “man is at last becoming aware that he alone is responsible for the realization of the world of his dreams, that he has within himself the power for its achievement. He must set intelligence and will to the task”

(Paul Kurtz, humanist manifestos I and II (Buffalo, New York: Prometheus Books, 1973), p.8-10

• For his great achievements man, utilizing the resources and the law of nature, yet without divine aid, can take full credit. Similarly, for his shortcomings he must take full responsibility.

• Humanist assigns to man nothing less that the task of being his own savior and redeemer”

(Corliss Lamont, The Philosophy of Humanism (New York: Fredrick Unger Publishing Company, 1965 Edition),p.283

Pope preaching green at the UN

“…international action to preserve the environment and to protect various forms of life on earth must not only guarantee a rational use of technology and science, but must also rediscover the authentic image of creation” The pope has argued that environmental protection is a moral obligation and has called global warming: grave concern”
