    Route 66 Idiomas _________________________________ 2013/01

Why is the School called Route 66 Idiomas?

The Route 66 interstate highway symbolizes the optimism that invaded the USA after

the Great Depression and the First World War. Often called: The Main Street of

America, it connects a remote and little-populated region to two of the most important

cities of the twentieth century: Chicago and Los Angeles.

The construction of the Route 66 interstate highway began at the end of the 1920s. It

made it possible to travel by car from the east to the west of the USA for the first time.

Eventually the highway connected 8 states and provided jobs and income for thousands

of people. It also offered thousands of others the opportunity to seek a new life.

Since 1984, Route 66 has not been an official interstate highway. However, North

Americans and foreign tourists have rediscovered it. These new travellers want to relive

the experience of heading west and towards the adventurous future that the famous

    highway has traditionally symbolized.

Route 66 Idiomas offers you the opportunity to start a new adventure to better your

future. When you have learnt Spanish the language barrier that separated you from a

large part of the world will disappear. Whether for work, study or vacation, knowing

Spanish is sure to open many doors.

    Valencia City

The city of Valencia is located next to the Mediterranean Sea and 350 km from

Madrid and Barcelona, the largest cities in Spain. Valencia, with its population of

800,000, its many streets and unbeatable climate, offers you a wide variety of

unforgettable leisure and cultural experiences. You can enjoy wonderful food, sunbathe

on the citys beaches and play sports. It is the perfect place to learn Spanish.

    1. You can get more information about Valencia in Route 66. We have various leaflets and city maps.

    2. There are three tourist information offices in the city centre where you can find out more about everything that Valencia has to offer.

    3. You can also visit the following websites: www.valencia.es / www.comunitatvalenciana.com

The following timeslots are available each week if you would like to speak to the

Director of Studies about any problems, complaints, suggestions or queries you may

    have about your classes:

Monday to Friday: from 13.30 to 15.30.

We also have a suggestions box. Please do not hesitate to use it.

    Extracurricular Activities

    - Language Exchanges (Intercambios). Every 2 weeks the School organizes a

language exchange meeting for students learning Spanish and English. The

exchange takes place in a pub in the city centre and acts as an ice-breaker; from

there you can make your own arrangements to meet up at a later date to continue

practicing your new language skills. Check the library bulletin board for

language exchange dates. Taking part is free of charge.

    - Dinners. Every month the School organizes a dinner. This dinner is for all

students of the School (including students learning English, Valencian and

Dutch) and its teachers. You can sign-up in the office. Posters advertising

school-organized dinners will be displayed on the library bulletin board. The

cost of each dinner will depend on the restaurant (+/- 20).

    - Cultural classes. Every week one of the teachers will give a cultural class. Each class will be about a different topic and will take place from 13.30 to 14.30 so

that all students can attend. Information about the date and topic of the class will

be posted on the bulletin board in the library. Attendance is free of charge.

During your course the Secretary will put up posters to announce excursions (e.g. trips

to museums, local towns and villages, festivals, adventure sports activities, etc.).

Picnic for students in the River Turia Park

For more examples and photos of our extracurricular activities, take a look

at our activity book on the last three pages of this guide.
