STUDENT ADMISSION PROCESS:All veterans, active duty service members and military dependents who choose to attend Texas Southern University must complete the University’s application and admissions process prior to enrollment and before any VA education benefits can be processed. Please follow the steps listed below:

Step 1 Complete and submit the application to TSU at www.applytexas.org or by visiting www.tsu.edu/admissions.

Step 2 Obtain and submit official transcripts from all universities, colleges and military institutions you’ve attended. Military transcripts can be requested from https://jst.doded.mil/smart/signIn.do.

Step 3 Complete the TSU VA Federal Benefits Document Checklist and Semester Benefits Form by visiting www.tsu.edu/veterans.

Step 4 Visit with a TSU academic/enrollment advisor to select a VA approved degree program.

Step 5 Visit the TSU Office of Veterans Services to submit all required documentation to complete the certification process, or you may email them to [email protected].

*We encourage all veteran community members to contact the TSU Office of Veterans Services with any questions regarding services available to veterans attending or intending to attend Texas Southern University.

OUR MISSION:The mission of the Texas Southern University Office of Veterans Services is to provide

every veteran and dependent student with first class, holistic service from recruiting and admissions through career and alumni relations. Our goal is to reach and serve

the entire veteran population and provide them with informed decision-making tools, information and support to integrate successfully back into civilian life as they pursue

and complete their college education.

OUR VISION:The vision of the Texas Southern University Office of Veterans Services is to be the industry

leader in veterans’ education. As a military-friendly school, we stand firmly committed to providing VA students with not only exceptional programs but also resources that continue

far beyond their collegiate experience. Through this vision we project to provide services to an estimated 1,000 or more VA students globally per year. We plan to achieve this vision

through groundbreaking and enhanced educational service delivery methods and solid community partnerships.

OUR SERVICES:Texas Southern University is committed to assisting the men and women

of the United States Armed Forces, as well as their dependents, achieve their education and career goals by providing access to VA education

benefits and services to support their academic success that will be conducive to them in integration from military to civilian life. Through

programming, outreach and direct services, we provide veterans and dependents with a system of service delivery that insures a supportive

transition to civilian life and a positive educational experience at Texas Southern University.

We support the veteran, service member and dependent educational process from application to graduation. The TSU Office of Veterans Services is available to answer questions and assist with the following:

• Veteran Education Benefits• Enrollment Certification with the United States

Department of Veterans Affairs• Monitoring of VA students’ degree plans and

academic progress• Supportive Programming and Resources • VA Work-Study Opportunities

VETERAN EDUCATION BENEFITS:The following are federal VA education benefits that can be applied for with the Veterans Administration and utilized with enrollment at TSU: Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty

(MGIB-AD)Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and

Employment (VR&E) Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI BillChapter 35 Dependents Educational Assistance

(DEA)Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve

(MGIB-SR)

The following are other education benefits administered by other government agencies that can be utilized with enrollment at TSU: Hazlewood – Veterans who enter service Texas and meet certain requirementsMy Career Advancement Account – Spouses of certain active duty service members (MYCAA) Tuition Assistance – Active duty service members can apply through their branch of service (TA)*Each benefit listed above has certain requirements and restrictions.
