Starter Task

Describe how you gathered information on a structure strategy or composition you have used in an activity of your choice. (6)

You have 15 minutes to answer the above question.

Analysis of gathered data

Identified weakness

Problem / Weakness

Impact

WIDTH• Don’t fill all 3 lane

Less space in middle lane• Less space for PG• PG has to slow down

Defence in key• Less space to drive into for lay-up• No unopposed lay-up

Less Options for PG• FB becomes predictable• Defence know what’s going to

happen

SPEED• Skill level under

pressure• Pressure on

decision making

Defence able to get back• Defenders in key• Less space to drive into for lay-up• No unopposed lay-up• Resort to jump/set shot – lower %

scoredPressure on skill level

• Make errors – lose possession• Less time to think – poorer decisions• Slow down even more to avoid

errors / poor decisions

Impact of weakness

Identified weakness

Identify weaknesses in your chosen strategy. Explain the impact of these weakness of your performance.

Structure to answer

Introduction• Name strategy – explain aim of strategy• Name the two weaknesses you identified

Weakness 1• Why factor chosen is important within fast break• How weakness impacts negatively on your

performanceWeakness 2

• Why factor chosen is important within fast break• How weakness impacts negatively on your

performance

Why speed is important

•Speed is a vital element of the Fastbreak•Moving up the court quickly maximises the opportunity of numerical superiority.•Enables you to reach the opposition key before they are able to set up a defence•Forces the opposition to make quick decisions as to who to mark•Less pressure on skill level / decision making as less defenders •If there are few or no defenders this gives an excellent opportunity to shoot and score an unopposed lay-up. Creating the opportunity for a lay-up is advantageous as it is taken close to the basket and therefore has a high success rate.

Why Width is important

•Width is created during the fast break by the Centre and Forward filling the wide lanes either side of the Point Guard.•Filling all three lanes gives defenders more space to cover by pulling them away from the middle of the court and away from the key•The space created can now be used by the PG to dibble up court at speed•The space in the key can be used by the C or F who can receive a pass and drive in to score an unopposed lay-up as they cut in from the left or right lane..•Filling all three lanes gives the PG more passing options, which makes the attack less predictable

Identify weaknesses in your chosen strategy. Explain the impact of these weakness of your performance. (6)

Partner Task

•Number yourself 1 & 21. start writing about Width2. start writing about Speed

•Use the information in the following slide to write a paragraph explaining the impact of your identified weakness.•After 3 minutes you will swap jotters and add to your partners answer.•You will repeat this process twice more
